September20,2011 AstheUnitedNationsmeetsinLondonyesterdayandtodaytoassesstheglobalimpact ofthefiveleadingchronicdiseasescancer,diabetes,mentalillness,heartdisease,and respiratorydiseasethereisaglaringomissionintheenvironmentalrisksnotbeing analyzedforimpactsonhealthandeconomy.Thatomissionisthemassiveexplosion andintrusionofwirelesstechnologyintoeveryfacetoflife. EvenwithoutfactoringintheprovenbiologicaleffectsofRF(microwave)radiation,the WorldEconomicForum(WEF)estimatesthehealthcostsfortheabovefivediseases couldreach$47trillionoverthenext20years. TheWEFestimatesthesediseaseswillkillmorethan36millionpeopleayearandare predictedtokilltensofmillionsmoreinfuture,andtheestimatedcumulativeoutput losscausedbytheillnessesrepresentsaround4percentofannualglobalGDPoverthe comingtwodecades. TheresearchwaspublishedonSundayeveningbeforethetwodayUnitedNations meetingonchronic,or"noncommunicablediseases".Thefocusofthediscussionisto comeupwithaplantodealwithgrowinglevelsofdeathandinfirmityfromthese extremelycostlydiseasesmedicallyandintermsoflostproductivityoftenlinkedto poordiet,tobacco,alcoholandlackofexercise. Ourcontentionisthatstilluncalculatedandpotentiallymassivecosts,bothmedically andintermsofloweredGDP,ofwhatcouldbethebiggestdiseasefactorofall wirelesscommunicationcouldcauseahumanitarianandeconomicdisaster. WhyistheconcernexpressedinPresidentObama'sCancerPanelReport20082009, releasedin2010,notbeingaddressedattheglobaleconomicsummit?Thatconcern wasexpressedintheCancerPanel'sReportasfollows: "Astheuseofcellphoneshasincreased,sohasconcernabouttheirpotentialharmful healtheffects,particularlywhethercellphoneusersareatgreaterriskforbraincancer. Cellphonesandrelateddevicesbecomemoresophisticatedeachyear,andtheyare producingenergyatincreasinglyhigherradiofrequenciesnecessaryfortheirexpanded functions.Thenumberofcellphonetowersalsoisgrowingascellularserviceproviders strivetoprovidecustomersamaximallyrobustnetwork." Additionally,theCancerPanelwarned:"Withoveramillionpeopleusingcellphones, eveniftheriskisofanincreaseinbraintumorsthatsrelativelysmall,say5or10 percent.Fiveor10percentofamillionpeopleisgoingtobeavery,verylargenumber." Todaythereareover5billioncellphonesinuseworldwide.Andthebraintumorrisk

appearsnowmuchmorethana"worstcasescenariospeculation".Untilrecentlythe telecommunicationsindustryhasofferedreassurancethattheesteemedWorldHealth Organizationdidnotfindalinkbetweencellphonesandbraincancer.Atleastthat appearedtobethecaseuntilMayofthisyearwhentheWHO'sInternationalAgencyfor ResearchonCancer(IARC)metinLyon,France,thoroughlyresearchedalltheexisting studies,andthenclassifiedradiofrequencyelectromagneticfieldsaspossibly carcinogenictohumans(Group2B),basedonanincreasedriskforglioma,amalignant typeofbraincancer,associatedwithwirelessphoneuse. Why,wemustasknotonlytheUSbutallnationsparticipatingintheUN'smeetingon noncommunicablediseases,istheveryrealthreatofRFEMFnotbeingaddressedasa riskfactoralongwithpoordiet,tobaccouse,alcoholandlackofexercise?Coulditbe becausepoordiet,tobacco,alcoholandlackofexercisearenotvaluedas$3trillionto $4trillionperyearindustriesrepresentedbyagenerouslobbywithassetsinexcessof $85,000,000annually? Wirelesstechnologyisanidentifiedriskcausingillhealthinallfiveareasaddressedby theWEFcancer,diabetes,mentalillness,heartdisease,andrespiratorydisease carryingpotentialforhugeeconomicandalmostincalculableglobalimpacts,growingin dangerandintandemwiththewirelessinfrastructurerolloutthroughouttheworld. UntiltheWorldEconomicForumaddressesthiselephantintheroom,anypredictionfor atroublingoutlookwillbeaeuphemism.
