Chapter 5 Summary, Conclusions, and Recommendations

This chapter presents the summary, findings and conclusions as well as the recommendations made for the research problem based on the result of this study. Summary The research entitled Compliance of Pregnant Women to Prenatal Check-ups as a Basis in the Formulation of Health th Teaching Guide was conducted on September 2011 by the 4 year students of Union Christian College, City of San Fernando, La Union. The study was conducted also at Barangay Alaska, Aringay, La Union. The respondents were 29 pregnant women of the said barangay. The research design used was the descriptive survey method with a questionnaire as the main instrument in collecting the data. The data gathered were treated using tally, frequency count, percentage, weighted mean and pearson r. This was used to determined the extent of significant difference between the demographic profile and the level of compliance of the respondents to prenatal services. Sub-problems of the Study 1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of: a. b. c. d. e. f. 2. Age; Highest Educational attainment; Religious affiliation; Monthly Income; Occupation; and, Geographical Location?

What is the health status of the respondents in terms of the following variables: a. b. Immunization; and, Nutrition?

Findings of the Study Based on the data gathered, the following are: 1. Demographic Profile

Age: There were 3 or (10.34%) of the pregnant women belonged to the age range of 13-17, whereas 20 or (68.97%) of the pregnant women belonged to the age range of 18-34, 6 or (20.69%) of the pregnant women belonged to the age range of 35-65. Highest Educational Attainment: There was high school graduates which listed a total of 13 or (44.83%) followed with 11 or (37.93%) who were elementary graduates. Other respondents were college graduates (10.34% or 3 persons), high school undergraduate (3.45% or 1 person) and elementary undergraduate (3.45% or 1 person). Religious Affiliation: There were 22 or (75.86%) pregnant women who belong to the Roman Catholic group, the respondents that were with the Born Again group were 4 or (13.79%) and 3 respondents or (10.34%) belong to the Iglesia ni Cristo. Occupation: There were 15 or (51.72%) are housekeepers, 6 or (20.69%) are fish vendors, 3 or (10.34%) are teachers and the other 5 or (17.24%) are vegetable vendors. Monthly Income: Majority of the respondents earned an average income of 1,000-5,000 pesos per month. Most (72.41% or 21 persons) earned monthly income of 1,000-5,000 pesos, 8 or (17.24%) is earned a monthly income ranging from 5,000-10,000 pesos. Geographical Location: All (29 persons or 100%) of the respondents live along the sea.

The Health Status of the Respondents: a) Immunization Status: The respondents were very high status on immunization having a grand weighted mean of 4.23. The first and second indicators which were I finished my tetanus toxoid 1 and I finished my tetanus toxoid 2 showed the highest mean score of 5 with a descriptive equivalent of very high status, on the other hand, the fifth indicator which is I finished my tetanus toxoid 5 got the lowest weighted mean 3.21 with a descriptive equivalent of moderate status. b) Nutrition Status: The respondents have a high status on nutrition having a grand weighted mean of 3.86. The tenth indicator which is I dont take any drugs that are not prescribed during my state of pregnancy showed the highest mean score of 5 with a descriptive equivalent of very high status, and the fifth indicator which is I eat nutritious foods got the lowest weighted mean 3.03 with a descriptive equivalent of moderate status. The Level of Compliance of the Respondents to Prenatal Services: a) Immunization Services: the respondents have a very high compliance on immunization services with a grand mean of 4.36. The result on both items has an implication that the pregnant women are very highly compliant. b) Nutrition Services: The respondents were moderately compliant on nutrition services having a grand weighted mean of 3.06. In each items, the result was moderate compliance. The fourth indicator which was I was able to st rd take folic acid 1 tablet/day on my 1 month up to 3 month of pregnancy showed the lowest mean score of 2.69 with a descriptive equivalent of moderately compliant, on the contrary, the second indicator which was I go to the health center, as advised, to monitor my weight once a week during my pregnancy got the highest weighted mean 3.34 with a descriptive equivalent of moderate compliance. c) Family Planning: The pregnant women have a moderate compliance on family planning services since the grand mean was 3.23. Each of the indicators has the result of having a moderate compliance. d) Health Education: It was very high on health education services among pregnant women with a grand mean of 4.12. Also, each of the statements has a very high compliance. The
