FIjI MAKES NEw FRIENdS

The Fijian Government will continue to expand and forge new relations with countries around the globe for the benefit of the people says the Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola. Fijis transition on the political front has brought new international challenges putting enormous responsibilities and practical implications on the countrys diplomats. The Fiji Foreign Service is not passively following the changing world. We are adjusting to new situations in the international environment and so do our partners, Ratu Inoke said. As a gateway for the nation to the world, my ministry is taking on new responsibilities which do not only involve promoting Fijis interests in the international arena and fulfilling our obligation to conventions and treaties we are party to. Changing world politics also gives the ministry the responsibility to inform and enhance the well being of our people through seeking donor cooperation to achieve our development priorities with a view to improve the standards of living and wellbeing of the people of Fiji. The innovative initiatives and policies such designed to enhance Fijis foreign policy. In our bid to become a more active player and to have a firm recognition of Fijis voice in world politics, the Government Policy, Ratu Inoke said. A key strategy in this policy is to move away from our heavy reliance on our traditional partners, and to expand Fijis foreign policy horizons from its previous comfort zone. Ratu Inoke said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was committed to strengthening and finding new relations with countries that recognized our efforts of political and socio-economic reform set by the Bainimarama Government under the Roadmap for Democracy and Sustainable

Janet Karson, of the southwestern Australian town of Deanmill, told The West Australian newspaper that she was walking her dogs last Saturday when the kangaroo appeared. One of her dogs chased after it and she hurried to catch up. When she arrived, she said, the kangaroo had its claws locked onto her pet. I used a stick to lever its claws off my dog and then it reared up in front of me it was huge, Karson told the newspaper. All I can remember is its claws going to work on me and the smell of my own blood when my head fell on to its chest. I thought, Thats it, Im finished. It all happened so quickly it was over in a few seconds. Karson isnt sure if the dogs fought the kangaroo off her or if it decided to end the attack on its own. The mauling left her with cuts to her neck, ears and back. She said she needed 20 stitches to close the wounds to her ears. I honestly believe its a miracle Im alive, she said. It is not clear what kind of kangaroo attacked the woman. Before he died, he volunteered to take part in a mummification experiment for television. The body was dried out in a special chamber at Sheffields Medico Legal Centre in northern England, and then wrapped with linen bandages to allow the drying to continue, to keep his limbs intact and keep out light and insects. They used a process developed by Dr Stephen Buckley, a chemist and contrary to popular belief, the mummies did not have their brain removed through their nose. After the researchers bandaged Billis body, his widow Jan made a farewell visit, leaving some photographs and drawings by his grandchildren with him. The process took three months and has been hailed a success by a number of expert scientists.

by drinking beer
Older women could protect themselves against osteoporosis in later life by drinking a pint of beer a day, according to new research. A new study has shown that ale is an ideal source of dietary silicon, which is crucial in the formation of new bone. Although silicon is contained in some plants and beans, one of the richest and most easily absorbed sources is beer. In the new study, Professor Jonathan Powell, head of nutrition research at Cambridge University, studied the effects of beer on bone formation and found that ethanol which is also present in alcohol helps to prevent bone loss and silicon encourages the growth of new bone. Silicon combines with the hormone as women age, their estrogen levels fall, and so, as they get older, it is important for women to take in a good daily amount of silicon, Prof Powell quoted. Our research shows that the absorption rate of silicon from beer is the highest of any foodstuff. A pint of beer contains around 8mg of silicon around a third of our daily recommended intake. from drinking a half-pint a day as a means of absorbing silicon, and post-menopausal day, he added.

Is travel insurance worth the extra money?

In rare instances it's a good deal, but it often duplicates existing coverage
Or maybe take a little cruise down to enough insurance coverage. Travel insurance is becoming increasingly popular, but in many cases it simply duplicates coverage you already have. The following tips can help you determine what kind of travel coverage, if any, is right for you. 1. Familiarize yourself with whats out there. Travel insurance can include trip cancellation, trip interruption, accidental death or dismemberment, medical and dental care, transportation to medical facilities, loss of luggage or personal possessions and protection against the bankruptcy or default of your cruise line or tour operator. 2. Determine whether youre already covered. theft and other losses away from home. Your medical and auto insurance may be valid in other countries. Your life insurance policy should cover you and your family while you travel. And airlines must reimburse you if they lose your bags. 3. Remember your credit cards and auto club membership. Check to see what travel protection you have from those little plastic cards in your wallet. The American Express Platinum Card is especially good about giving generous accidental death and dismemberment coverage, insurance for car rental loss and damage, and extra lost baggage protection. 4. Buy through a third-party insurer. Travel agents, tour operators and cruise lines sell travel insurance, but your safest bet is to obtain coverage through an established insurance company. This way your travel company goes bankrupt. 5. Ask the right questions. As you shop around, ask insurers: What disasters are type of assistance does the insurance company give in the event of a medical 6. And your credit card may provide such coverage as well. 8. Understand cancellation waivers. Many cruise and tour operators offer these case you have to cancel your trip. While the waivers provide some protection, they often have many restrictions and are not regulated. 9. Consider extra coverage. If you must travel with expensive electronic equipment, sporting gear or jewelry, policy. This could be a relatively lowcost way to insure those items. 10. Recognize the value of emergency medical assistance coverage. This would cover you if you must be airlifted off a mountain, receive prolonged treatment in a foreign hospital or be whether your health insurer would cover you overseas and pay for your you have Medicare, this coverage could covered outside the United States.
