Purpose

To determine which liquid(water versus vitamin water) will help plants grow faster.

Hypothesis
My hypothesis is that the plants that are watered with vitamin water will surpass the plants that are watered with bottled water in height, and health of the plant.

Controlled Variable
Size of the cups Kind of plants Location Amount of liquid

Independent Variable
Liquid in which the plant is watered in.

Dependent Variable
Measuring how tall and fast the plants grow over time.

Research
Plant Research
While conducting my experiment, I gathered information from several reliable resources. My first resource was www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/. I learned that a plant's stem is like a plumbing system. It has several tubes in which it conducts water and nutrients around the entire plant system. I also learned that leaves are the most important part of the plant due to the fact that the leaf provides what is needed for the plant's food. From another source called http://hcs.osu.edu/hcs300/chem.htm. I learned from that website that of the 90 or so naturally occurring elements, about nine help make up the basic nutrients for plants (carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, potassium, magnesium, and calcium). I learned from a book called Watch It Grow, Watch It Change, that plants are intelligent organisms that produce their own food using a pigment called chlorophyll. After learning this, I noted the fact that the plants that were given vitamin water had much greener leaves in comparison to the plants that were given regular water. From a website called www.emc.maricopa.edu I learned that a plant had two organ systems. The first is the shoot (stem), and the second is the root. I also learned from this website that plants have a category of tissue. Plant's have only three tissues. Those tissues are ground, vascular, and dermal. Ground tissue covers a large amount of the vital and critical parts of the plant. Vascular tissue sends food, water, and minerals throughout the plant. Dermal tissue covers the outer surface of certain plants. Safety Research When I researched safety, I learned several important things. I first learned that adult supervision is important sometimes. I also learned that you shouldn't experiment with poisonous or endangered plants. Last but not least, pay attention to your project from the beginning to the end, and never

forget about it!

Abstract
I wanted to find out if either regular water or vitamin water is better for plants. I did this experiment because I found it very interesting. My hypothesis for the experiment was that the plants that were given vitamin water would grow taller and faster than the other plants that were given regular water. First, I obtained all of my materials. I used six plants, six plastic cups, gardening soil, a ruler, Propel(vitamin water), regular spring water, a measuring cup, and a composition book to log in all of the information that happened each day. Next, I planted two bean seeds in each of the six cups that were filled with gardening soil. I then numbered the vitamin water and regular water plants 1 through 3. I watered the plants with either (approximately) 20 milliliters vitamin water or regular water for two weeks. I logged

in the daily measurements and made observations in my log book, then compared my results. All the plants grew, some more than others. In the end, the average over all growth for the vitamin water plants was 30.75 centimeters, while the over all growth of the regular water plants was 28.0. I was a bit surprised when the water plants put up competition, for I had made the assumption that the regular watered plants would have been far behind.

Conclusion
After two weeks of experimenting with plants being given different liquids, I have reached the conclusion that plants that are given vitamin water rather than regular water will grow faster.
