INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE PROPOSAL OF ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITIES (we suggest the following ones. You can choose one or some or you can think of others) Explanation of basic concepts: Difference between domestic violence and gender violence against women. Systemic gender discrimination Difference between aggression and maltreatment Types of maltreatment Conduct of the aggressor, conduct of passive mediators and consequences for women The cycle of violence: tension, explosion and repentance Romantic love and learned defenselessness Indicators of dominion and control (applied to girls and boys) Myths and false beliefs about violence Basic data about violence in our society and in the world

Critical analysis of inequality in advertising, press, music, video games Distribution of white bows (ribbons) Breaking of stereotypes: Unidentified human figures are put up around the centre with information and comments on the supposed person. A few days later, you put the real face on the figure (and body, if so wished) Production of a diary against violence: Around November 25 we will dedicate one or two meetings to explaining the nature of violence against women and we will hold a contest of phrases and drawings on the topic. (The entry requirements must specify that morbid or sick phrases or drawings will not be accepted.) Later we will produce a diary which will include the winning phrases and drawings. Disc - forum: Where pupils and teachers look for songs about maltreatment to women; make a disc of these songs and produce some guidelines for analyzing the situations. Mailbox- Denunciation: Production of a mailbox where the pupils will deposit the denunciations of situations of maltreatment in their environment, press, television, judicial resolutions, etc. Production of a mural in which the myths and false beliefs about violence will be depicted, for exhibition in corridors of the centre, (for example: "He is jealous ... but he loves me very much "). Summary of educational materials and posters produced by public institutions and exhibition of them in the hall of the centre. Human chain formed by pupils with their mouth covered with sticking-plaster. A pupil will read a manifesto against gender violence and he/she will take off the sticking-plaster of every pupil in turn ... with the motto: BREAK YOUR SILENCE
