New Arrivals
Life Itself: A Memoir by Roger Ebert Roger Ebert is the best-known film critic of our time. In 2006, complications from thyroid cancer treatment resulted in the loss of his ability to eat, drink, or speak. But with the loss of his voice, Ebert has only become a more prolific and influential writer. And now, for the first time, he tells the full, dramatic story of his life and career. Danis Story: A Journey From Neglect to Love by Diane Lierow A little girl named Danielle was removed from her Florida home after authorities found her living in bugridden squalor, subjected to horrific neglect and so damaged by her own mother that recovery seemed hopeless. Danielle spoke only in grunts and yelps, walked on her tiptoes, was not toilet-trained and drank from a bottle. She was almost seven years old. But hope and help were waiting for this little girl. Healing the Heart of Democracy: The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit by Parker Palmer "We the People" called American democracy into being. We can call it back to its highest form only as we heal our own distrust, divisions and fear and become a true civic community. That's a big task. But each of us can contribute to it by doing simple things in our everyday lives. Ghost in the Wires: My Adventures as the Worlds Most Wanted Hacker by Kevin Mitnick and William L. Simon Ghost in the Wires is a thrilling true story of intrigue, suspense, and unbelievable escape, and is a portrait of a visionary whose creativity, skills, and persistence forced the authorities to rethink the way they pursued him, inspiring ripples that brought permanent changes in the way people and companies protect their most sensitive information. Beautiful Unbroken: One Nurses Life by Mary Jane Nealon Beautiful Unbroken details Nealons life of caregiving, from her years as a flying nurse, untethered and free to follow friends and jobs from the Southwest to Savannah, to more somber years in New York City, treating men in a homeless shelter on the Bowery and working in the citys first AIDS wards. In this compelling and revealing memoir, Nealon brings a poets sensitivity to bear on the hard truths of disease and recovery, life and death. Pirate King by Laurie R. King In Englands young silent-film industry, the megalomaniacal Randolph Fflytte is king. Nevertheless, at the request of Scotland Yard, Mary Russell is dispatched to investigate rumors of criminal activities that swirl around Fflyttes popular movie studio. Russell travels undercover to Portugal, along with the film crew that is gearing up to shoot a cinematic extravaganza, Pirate King. Train Dreams by Denis Johnson Robert Grainer is a day laborer in the American West at the start of the twentieth centuryan ordinary man in extraordinary times. Buffeted by the loss of his family, Grainer struggles to make sense of this strange new world. As his story unfolds, we witness both his shocking personal defeats and the radical changes that transform America in his lifetime. Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-andwhite striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rves, and it is only open at night. I Married You For Happiness by Lily Tuck The tale unfolds over a single night as Nina sits at the bedside of her husband, Philip, whose sudden and unexpected death is the reason for her lonely vigil. Still too shocked to grieve, she lets herself remember the defining moments of their long union, beginning with their meeting in Paris.
