THE ROLE OF NEW MEDIA in JOURNALISM


NM-JUR-2011 Developed within the framework of the IDEI 2008 2011 programme, Project title: Research concerning blogging practices in Romanian journalism November 3 4, 2011 Objectives New media topics in general, blogging and journalism topics in particular are provocative and extremely debated in communication studies. Irrespective of the stand concerning the topic, blogging practices have already acquired a definite role in information journalism. Likewise, blog reading has almost become more frequent than the reading of print newspapers. As a form of content dissemination, blogging has so far proved to be beneficial to journalistic activities. How significant this role is, which are the good and bad things/ the positive and negative facets of blogging, which is the perspective and the opinion on these practices, how journalism adopts the blogging practices, which are the differences and the similarities between blogging and journalism? These are but some of the aspects concerning blogging that will stand for debate issues within the conference. This conference proposes some issues that may lead to the definition of the two spaces of communication: blogging and journalism, and that should distinguish between the limits up to which we can speak about journalism or about blogging communication. The conference also proposes the analysis of journalistic practices within social networks. The conference participants can chose topics from among a wide range of scientific areas including: digital media/multimedia/new media, new technologies of mass communication, online journalism/ multimedia journalism, traditional journalism, discourse theories, online organizational communication, etc. The conference participants are supposed to present original contributions, on some of the following topics (unexhaustive list): Thematic sections: Section I - Blogging activities in politics, society, culture - Discursive practices in blogging - Blog communication and social networks

Section II - The dynamics of blogging, of online newspapers and magazines - Blogging practices in journalism - Journalism on blogs and the journalists blogs Section III - Business models in the new media - Media companies and the new media/ blogging/ social networks - Participation and collaboration to work out online media products - Marketing and promotion through blogging/ social media These topics will be discussed within several panels according to programme. The languages of the presentations and of the accepted articles are supposed to be Romanian, English and French. Presentations should be conceived so as not to exceed 15 20 minutes. Other 10 minutes will be devoted to discussions. Organization: Paper proposal should contain: - a 300 / 500 word abstract to present the subject and its relevance, the research hypothesis or the main arguments, the conceptual and methodological framework, expected results. - 5 key words at most. Peer reviewed papers presented at the NM-JUR-2011 Conference will be published in the conference volume, at a CNCSIS recognized Publishing House. Finally formatted articles will be written on A4 pages, with margins of 2.5 cm, Times New Roman font, 12 pts.; the text must be single-spaced and the first line of each paragraph must be indented. The maximum number of pages of the complete paper will not exceed 10 12 pages.
