Times Week in Review:

Learn. Lead. Serve. Succeed!

From 10/31 to 11/3

Class of 2028 (Kindergarten)

This week, we learned the sounds for /sh/ and /ch/. Be sure to ask your scholar(s) about sheriff and champion! We practiced the sight words one, have, but, and not. We also started reading nonIiction texts, so be sure to talk with your scholar about how nonIiction has real pictures, real people, and gives us information about something. In math we've been studying how to order numbers so they get bigger (1 to 10) and smaller (10 to 1). We took our fourth math test on Friday! In expedition, we've continued to study different jobs in the community. Next week we will begin learning the sounds for /th/ and /wh/ as well as some new sight words. We will continue working with nonIiction texts. In math, we will begin exploring different shapes -- naming them, describing them, sorting them, and much more. In expedition we will be working on our ABC Book called Words at Work as our Iinal product in the upcoming weeks.

Class of 2027 (First Grade)

First grade scholars are becoming experts on the voting process! On Tuesday, scholars will conduct Iieldwork at a local polling place to gather information about running an election. They will apply what theyve learned to organize a school mascot election on Thursday, November 10th. The candidates have already been chosen (whale, dolphin, octopus, and seahorse) and campaign posters are going up around the school. First graders have decided that in order for the vote to be fair, all 120 scholars will get one vote. We cant wait to count the ballots and celebrate our new mascot!

This week in Physical Education, scholars have been working on Movement and Tag games. Scholars have been learning how to perform the skills of dodging, Ileeing, and chasing and how these skills are used at the college sports level. Next week, we will begin our football unit, learning the necessary skills needed to throw a spiral! This weekend will be beautiful, see if your scholar can chase you while you Ilee!

Next week, we will be interviewing representatives of the countries to improve our interview skills and get an experts opinion. In literacy, scholars are studying dialog and learning about how to use dialog to Iind out more about characters.

Alma Library

Special thanks to Rose Sparrow, Katy Sampson, Amanda Lopes, and Vivian Santiago for their amazing service.

Rose, Katy, and Vivian come to Alma virtually every day to provide support to individual scholars. Thanks to them, scholars have demonstrated great progress. Amanda volunteers as bus monitor every single morning! Thanks to her commitment, the morning bus trip is now much quieter and happier!

There are more than 1,000 books in the Alma library! The catalogue is available on our website (under Alma Families). Parents may check books out between 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM Monday through Thursdays.

Brrr, its getting cold!

As it gets colder, we will continue to have outdoor recess whenever possible. Please send your scholar with a coat every day. Scholars without coats may be required to stay indoors. Scholars may wear boots to and from school but must bring their shoes for when they are indoors.
