Southwestern University Spring 2012 Splash!

Program A Teachers Guide

What is Splash? Splash is an exciting new way to spread knowledge and learn new things. The program is a day of classes taught by you, Southwestern University students and faculty, on whatever you want. It could be any subject from quantum physics to how to make ice cream. Splash is a national program facilitated by the non-profit company Learning Unlimited. Programs are already well established at Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Northwestern, and more. Southwestern Splash seeks to bring this wonderful learning opportunity to central Texas students. Can I really teach anything? Pretty much! You can even team teach a class with a friend or two. Just make sure that it is appropriate for high school students. If you are not sure your class is appropriate just run it by a Splash administrator during your teacher consultation or by e-mailing one of the officers. How big of a time commitment is this? You can commit as much or as little time to this project as you like we want as many teachers as possible to serve our students. You can simply come and teach one class or you may teach multiple blocks and help out as a volunteer throughout the day. Stay and help as long as you like and are able. Splash Day! Our set Splash date is set for Saturday, February 18, 2012. Here is the following tentative schedule:

The Help Desk will be in the Olin Lobby all day if you need something during the day. So How Do I Teach? Make sure to make an account on our website http://susplash.learningu.org/ to get all of our updates. The next thing you have to do is sign up for a quick 15-minute teacher consultation with one of the Splash officers. Every Splash teacher must go through teacher training. The sign up will be on the door of room 245 Prothro. This isnt to weed out teachers or critique your teaching style, but to let you know more about the logistics of the program, help you formulate ideas for your class, and learn more about what you want to teach. This doesnt mean you need to have a detailed plan for your class by this time. You just need an idea and description by this date registered on the web site so students can sign up for it. Well give you all you need to know, so bring your questions an ideas! You can come by our regular officer meetings Thursday from 5:00-6:00PM on the second floor of Prothro.
