PERSONAL AND FAMILY READINESS NEWSLETTER

2d Supply Battalion (-) REIN
Greetings, to the families and friends of 2d Supply Battalion Reinforced. For those of you who have your loved ones deployed, please let me to inform you that we have completed our first 30 days since the Transfer of Authority with 2d Maintenance Battalion and our Marines and Sailors have settled in to life in Afghanistan and are performing superbly, continuing to raise the bar in responsive maintenance, supply and surgical and distribution support provided to Marine and coalition forces. We celebrated the Navys Birthday and are preparing to celebrate the Marine th Corps 236 birthday. I want to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable time attending one of the various balls and celebrations back home. As the weather gets cooler we know that autumn is upon us and we are entering the holiday season. We all wish that we could be home and share this time with you, but please know that your loved ones are remaining highly motivated and are proudly serving the Marine Corps and the nation. It is definitely my honor to serve alongside them. I wish you all a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving.

and the result is that the problem is worse than it was in the beginning. There was a girl by the name of Mary OConnor who was a devout Catholic. Mary fell in love with a young man named John Jones who was a staunch Baptist. They loved each other and wanted to get married, but they knew their religious differences might be a problem. Mary talked with her mother and her suggested, Sell him on the Catholic Church. Tell him about our sacred traditions. Tell him about our long history and great beliefs. Tell him about our dedicated martyrs and noble saints. Persuade him to become a Catholic, and then you can marry him. Mary went to see John and try to persuade him to become a Catholic. A little later, Mary returned home and burst into the house sobbing her eyes out. Whats the matter? her mother asked. Couldnt you sell him on becoming a Catholic? Sell him? Mary cried. I oversold him, and now he wants to become a priest. Many of the problems we encounter are because of overreaction. Friendships are destroyed. Marriages are disrupted. Churches are split. Wars are started, and hearts are broken all because of hasty, impulsive overreactions.

OVERREACTING
Many of the problems in our world today are caused by hasty, explosive overreaction. A problem presents itself, and we have a tendency to overreact,

Overreacting during deployment is also not a good thing. Dont argue over the phone. Choose to engage in serious conversations once you are together again following deployment. There are both stressors at home, and for those of us who are deployed. Spouses focus on the safety of children on a daily basis, and Marines and Sailors face life decisions on a daily basis where there is increased danger in a hostile environment outside the wire. By refusing to overreact, all of us are able to focus, and apply reason. We are able to concentrate on what really is important, and carry on while expecting the best.

MSB11.2 Ironman Competition Camp Leatherneck Afghanistan

Story by Sgt. Justin Shemanski Photo by Cpl. Katherine M. Solano

Master Sgt. Thomas Lutz, the operations supply officer with 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward), throws shot put during the Iron Man competition aboard Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, Oct. 22. Lutz has been training for the events for several months with a group of Marines also participating in the competition. CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan -Are you tough enough? That was the proverbial question posed when the masterminds of the 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward) sat down to design a test of pure fitness and strength, which manifested itself in the form of the Iron Man Competition aboard Camp Leatherneck, Oct. 22. Open to all ranks and all services, the contest featured six events. The morning began with each participant completing a 10 kilometer run and then circulating through 5 other events, which included pull-ups, shot put, abdominal crunches, bench press and a 400 meter run.

The fastest or strongest participants per gender, per event, were named winners. Dozens of troops from across Regional Command Southwest participated in the event, though the Marines took the challenge to heart. You get together so you can compete, said Sgt. Maj. William T. Stables, the sergeant major for 2nd MLG (FWD). More importantly, you get to see the caliber of the Marines in the Corps.

FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS

Ammunition Company will honor a long time Civilian Marine, Mr. Richard Johnson, the Assistant officer in Charge of the Ammunition Supply Point (ASP) as he retires with over 53 years of combined active duty military and civilian government service. Mr. J, as he is affectionately known, is known throughout the Marine Corps Ammunition community as a walking reference for all matters pertaining to Ammunition Safety. Over the years, Mr. J has provided thousands of Marines and civilians with steadfast guidance and Mr. J was instrumental in transitioning the ASP from temporary trailers to a new administrative building and 12 new ammo storage buildings and in planning the construction project which will give the ASP 7 more storage buildings, a new company office/guard building, a new parking area and new roadways within the ASP. Over the years, Mr. J has provided thousands of Marines and civilians with steadfast guidance and always has a kind word. Mr. J will be sorely missed and never replaced. Thank you Mr. Johnson, we all wish you and Isabel the best in your retirement.

MR. J

Maintenance Company, MSB 11.2

Your Marines are doing incredible things here in Afghanistan, repairing and maintaining a vast amount of equipment and machinery. The weather is starting to get cold, so we are doing our best to prepare for the winter months. Mail is a huge morale boost out here for your Marines. It doesnt matter if it is a care package or a simple letter, getting something from the outside world always seems to brighten a Marines day. Please keep the letters coming! I would like to give a special congratulation to Cpl Lucas R. White, Cpl Lindel R. Gore Jr and LCpl Lesley Bailey, who recently became proud fathers of Brooklyn Mae White,

This is our first News Letter and I would like to say hello to the family and friends of Maintenance Company. This past month has been very busy, but productive for all of the Platoons within Maintenance Company.

William Gore and Jakari Lyn Bailey. I would also like to thank the families of SSgt Jeffrey P. Gaczewski, Sgt Christopher D. Bastida, Cpl Brandon A. Bianco, Cpl Wassim M. Dunbar, Cpl Joel G. Emmert, Cpl Ronnie S. Parker, Cpl Benjamin C. Peterson, Cpl Kenneth C. Hild III, and Cpl Kristopher K. Henley for supporting our Marines who recently reenlisted. It is a true honor and privilege to be serving alongside them. We could not do what we do so well out here without support from family and friends. I cannot express enough how important it is for your continued extension of love

and support to your deployed Marines. Our Marines are selfless and courageous men and women who are proudly serving and I am proud of each of them as I know you are. We are one month into our deployment and we are making a significant contribution to the overall effort out here. Time is flying by for us and your Warriors will be home before you th know it. Happy 236 Birthday to our Corps and our Marine Corps families. I hope you all have a

wonderful Thanksgiving!

Celebrating the Navy Birthday at Camp Leatherneck

The morning of 20 October the Marines and Sailors of 2d Supply Battalion (-) REIN celebrated the Navys Birthday with a 3 mile run. One great fact about life on Camp Leatherneck is that the camp is big enough to celebrate with a run toward the airport, and back. Several Marines includiing Cpl Cavallaro and Cpl Mizhquianzules from MSB 11.2 are pictured above helping Chaplain Lawrence cross the finish line! Not in the picture was the Corpsman with the Chaplains oxygen tank. Events continued including a cake cutting ceremony where our very own Commanding Officer for Bravo Surgical Company, Commander Williams, passed a slice of cake to the youngest Sailor on board Camp Leatherneck. How was Commander Williams so fortunate to be a part of the cake cutting ceremony? Well, we will not talk about age, but that certainly had something to do with his presence front, and center. The day came to a close with a cook out on the grill (burgers, and chicken) coupled with oraganized teams for volleyball and corn hole. The Marines and Sailors of MSB 11.2 would like to wish everyone a Happy Marine Corps Birthday, remember our veterans on Veterans Day and have a wonderful and delicious Thanksgiving.
