As a committee of CAMPO, the Transit Working Group will evaluate and provide input toward a regional high capacity transit plan for Central Texas and explore how its various components work as a system to fulfill the regions transportation and future growth needs

How will high capacity transit components in CAMPO 2035 plan work as a system? How will our region organize to develop and operate the system? How will we pay for the system?

A Metropolitan Planning Organization is a federally required transportation planning organization Required for urbanized areas over 50,000 Responsible for the coordination of planning activities Planning and programming of federal transportation funds

Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO)


CAMPO covers the 5county Metropolitan Statistical Area

Encompasses about 1.7 million people


About 4,200 square miles

CAMPO is governed by a 19-member Transportation Policy Board comprised of 17 elected officials from local governments and 2 nonelected members

Supported by various committees


Federally funded by US DOT for approximately $1.8 million annually 17 FTEs

The Metropolitan Transportation Plan Coordinated plan for jurisdictions and providers in the CAMPO region

Covers 25 years, updated every 5 years CAMPO 2035 Regional Transportation Plan adopted in May 2010

CAMPO 2030 Plan adopted in 2005 Envision Central Texas efforts leading to Preferred Growth Scenario in mid-2000s Capital Metros All Systems Go! Transportation agencies and jurisdictional plans
