INTRODUCTION: Industrial drives and control is one of the fastest growing areas of research. In and around the institution, there are more than 1000 small scale industries involving in (including textile industry, Steel industry and Paper mills) business. Most of the industries have adopted variable speed drives using Power Converters for various applications. Understanding these applications is required to realize an appropriate power converter for the drive and also to build a control system (to achieve the control of one or more parameters- speed, current, torque, power, tension, position, etc.) to achieve the desired functionalities. The seminar looks forward to enhance the knowledge of the students, faculties, researchers and the users to have an awareness of all the relevant aspects. This proposed seminar will motivate the students, faculty members / Industrialists and research scholars to understand the fundamentals and applications of the Power Converters in Electric Drive controls from basics to advanced concepts. This seminar also kindle the interest of the research scholars / faculties and motivate them to pursue further research works in the field of advanced Industrial drives using Power Converters for various Industrial applications. COURSE CONTENTS Introduction to various power modulators used with Industrial drives- An overview Typical applications of Industrial drives in Steel Industries Typical applications of Industrial drives in paper, cement and sugar Industries Introduction to recent trends in power modulators and special drives (If time permits ,we planned to have an visit to the nearby industry) FACULTY Sessions will be handled by experienced faculty members of Kongu Engineering College and experts from reputed institutions and industries. ELIGIBILITY Teachers from AICTE approved Engineering Colleges with relevant background. Candidates from industries and R&D organizations will also be considered on a self-supporting basis. BOARDING AND LODGING Boarding and lodging will be provided to the participants on a first come and first serve basis in the college campus.
