met to discuss the wonderful group

Pet Day we had and to look at the effort required to give our school library a new lease of life.

This week the Friends of the School

managed to pay that cost from our

Ministry allocated capital works fund. I presented a plan of what we needed to help give new life to our library and our parent group was enthusiastic in its support! They agreed to give just over $6600 for mobile shelving units, an issue desk, magazine stand and some funky furniture and colour! It will be exciting to actually have a real library back again in its new spot that is connected through the verandah doors out into our lunch and learning area! The target is to have all ready to go by Day 1 of the 2012 school year. The Board are also allocating some funds to help 'move' the staffroom into Block E (beside the Activity Centre). Last Friday I started a small consultation session as part of our school assembly. I intend to do this

allocated elsewhere as we had

As a group we again acknowledged the logistical effort of coordinating this very successful day by Kaye Tuffley and Bronagh Hegan and the huge support they had from the many parent helpers, staff and community members. This is a day that really emphasises the community aspect of our school and is indeed a day to be treasured! There was some good reflection shared and some initial ideas for next years event noted. The group then discussed the classroom and library upgrade project. I shared how the initial support from the Friends of the School to pay for the classroom blinds had been freed up to be

over the next few weeks of this term sharing something from our strategic plan and then giving parents there the opportunity to talk about it afterwards at the back of the activity centre. Just another way to encourage a bit more partnership and ownership! Best wishes to our Year 6s, their parent helpers and Paula and Mark for a great camp next week at Borland Lodge. I hope to join them for a night mid week to get a taste of the action! Lastly, planning is already well underway for next year and next week I will be able to share with you our classroom and staff setup for the 2012 school year. Regards Tim Lovelock Principal

Week 4 Term 4
Room 1 farewell Kaia this week as he moves away with his family to Clyde. We wish him all the best at his new school and will miss his cheery good mornings and happy face in our classroom. We are big on learning goals towards positive relationships at the moment. Our theme this week is 'have reasons for the things we say and do'. This makes us stop and ask ourselves how the activities we do in class help our learning and help us to make good choices towards achieving our goals. Certificates: Kaia Nelson for great reading progress and Poppy O'Keefe pushing 4 sounds together to make words. Great stuff! Room 2 We welcome Lucy and Amilea Sparrow and their family to Room 2 this week! We are getting really good at thinking about others as we work together. We are working on ways to compromise if we want different things. We have been finding out about onomatopoeia words and using them to write some cool fireworks poems. Ask your child what kind of words they are! We are loving our talent development workshops. It's wonderful to hear all the interesting things everyone is learning in their different classes. Certificates: Magnus Jamieson, Ethan Mitchell Room 3 have been writing great recounts about Pet Day. They are working on adding lots of detail to their stories to make them more interesting for the reader. We continue to work on recalling our basic facts quickly. Daily practice of flashcards and maths homework really helps to improve the children's recall times. It is useful for the children to have a drink bottle at school so that they can easily have a drink when they need one. Certificates Trey Nelson and Jesse Gough Room 4 This term we are learning how to work together. So far we we have been focusing on 'treating others how we want to be treated', 'Having reasons for the things we say and do' and this week we are learning how to 'Pursue our personal best no matter who we are working with'. We are discovering ways that we can successfully compromise as we work together. In maths we are working on the place value of numbers. Have a great week, Evelyn Certificates: Naomi Hanning and Delta Rogan Room 5 are enjoying the use of their IWB thanks to the new blinds in our classroom. Thank you Friends of the school. We are working on our cooperative group skills in class and through our Inquiry.. Actively listening, considering and negotiating. Hopefully you will see some of these skills happening at home. Have a great week :-) Amber - I have enjoyed writing persuasive letters Katie - My goal for term 4 is to catch up with Hannah in Rocket spelling Sam - I really like the new blinds Eilish - I am happy to be on maths certificate 7AC Room 6 is looking beautiful with its new Koru Art designs around it. They were put together with Mrs Kahukura as part of our inquiry for the term. The students were learning to use the elements of visual art to communicate an idea. Our argument writing has taken a turn for the worse this week! The class have been told that they are no longer allowed any playtime at school as this just wastes time! They are having to write good arguments to get this right back. Room 7 Golf Tournament Bradley - I really enjoyed the Queens Park Town Zone Golf Tournament because golf is one of my favorite sports. It was great how everyone had such an awesome day. Even better how we came 4th!!! I can not wait till the Drummond Tournament with all the best teams in Southland!! Room 8 Olivia - On Monday I went to Queens Park and played Golf. Our team came fourth out of lots of teams. We won a little prize pack with golf balls, tees and chocolates. Robbie - I'm really enjoying the arts electives we've been having. I'm in the music group and we're working on a school song - it's so fun. I've learnt a lot about rhythm, beat, tempo and pitch!
