Bobo, too?
Yes, Andy Blaire said with a firm nod. Bogancio groaned as he rested his
head against Kandyl's shoulder. Kandyl petted him on the head. I do not hide
secrets from my father. I informed him about Bobo as well as Nana and Candy. I
explained everything to him in a detailed letter last week.
Wow, you're brave, Kandyl said in awe.
This can't end well, Bogancio said, shaking his head.
I can only guess here, Karenana said with a lifted brow. Why exactly do
you look so down for, Blaire? You should have seen all this coming.
Indeed, I have, Andy Blaire said, gazing intensely at Karenana. I am
ready to accept any consequences my father might bestow upon me. The reason
for me being so worried is because, Andy Blaire glanced at Bogancio in a sorry
manner. My father wants to meet you in person.
I'm moving, Bogancio said in declaration, getting up.
Coward! Karenana cried, using her whip to wrap around his arm and
holding him in place before he could leave the room. Bogancio noticed she had
been carrying that whip everywhere with her now, but she hadn't touched him
with it until now. You have to take responsibility for helping Blaire! That's what a
real man does!
You're not the one who has to deal with the scary father! Bogancio
whined, trying to remove the whip off him.
Kandyl also got up on her feet and touched Bogancio with her right hand.
Bobo, I know that your first instinct is to run away when you're in trouble, but it
will only make the situation worse for Blaire.
At Kandyl's words, Bogancio glanced at Andy Blaire, who was the only one
still sitting down. Usually stern-faced, Andy Blaire actually looked worried and
tired today. She lost a lot of life in her eyes as well. Even without dating her for a
long time, Bogancio could tell that she wanted him to decide what he should do.
She wanted to please her father, but she also refused to ask him to do anything
against his will, unlike Karenana. There was no helping it. Even if Karenana and
Kandyl used him to save Andy Blaire two weeks ago, he wanted to as well. They
were the extra push he needed, that was all. In the end, it was his still choice.
If I were to see your father, Bogancio said, giving in. Do I have to learn
and imitate Master's mannerisms?
Kandyl gasped. I want to teach you, Bobo!
We should dress him up too, said Karenana with excitement in her eyes.
What did I sign myself up for? Bogancio asked himself, ready to run again.
On the contrary, Bobo, Andy Blaire spoke up. I want you to be yourself.
Have you gone mad, Blaire? asked Karenana with an arched brow.
As much as I love Bobo, Kandyl said, passing Bogancio an apologetic look.
It would be hard for me to introduce him to my parents.
Yeah, said Bogancio, astonished. Even I wouldn't let my daughter date
me.
I do not wish to trick my father, Andy Blaire said solemnly. I want him to
meet the man I decided to date and protect. Even if he hates you, I want him to at
least know real you- the person who I am happy to defend every day.
Well, Bogancio said with thoughts of running away gone. Isn't this the
opposite of what usually happens in those comedies? Andy Blaire laughed.
Trembling, Ian had no idea what he should say next, especially with Jovi's
questioning look at him.
I am terribly sorry, Ian said, hoping to save himself.
You have nothing to be sorry for, Ian, Jovi said quickly, frowning at Ian. I
have nothing but compliments for your fool!
Compliments? Ian asked, picking his head up at once.
Jovi giggled and sipped her tea. I met him yesterday.
He didn't do anything to you, did he? asked Ian anxiously.
Good heavens, no, Jovi said, amused. But he seems to have lots of
enemies.
That he does... Ian said under his breath.
They are probably envious of his carefree nature, said Jovi, staring out the
window again. Ian was speechless at what he was hearing from Jovi's lips. I am
the same way.
How so? asked Ian.
I envy the scholarship students, Jovi said, placing her head against the
back of her right hand. They are able to study in the same school like us, but are
not restricted to the demands of their parents. They are learning of their own free
will.
A lot of people will be unhappy to hear you say that, Ian said, sighing.
Jovi's eyes flashed at what Ian said. Is that so?
Your father is the President of the largest department store branch in the
world, Ian said, causing Jovi to lower her eyes. He is paying millions to our
school for you to have the best education possible.
Yes, Jovi said in agreement. He hires the best tutors and instructors for
my lessons.
A lot of others such as myself look up to you, Ian said. Without your
family, our country would not be thriving in the trade market right now. I know this
is out of line for me but please, Ian lowered his head as if begging. Do not ever
think about abandoning your responsibilities as the heir to your father's branch to
study whatever you like.
What a surprise, Jovi said with wide eyes at Ian.
What is, fellow classman Jovi? asked Ian, realizing that he had said too
much and retreating to his soft voice.
Jovi clasped her hands on top of the table and said in awe, You and your
fool are nothing alike. Amazing.
Of course, Ian said, surprised at her mentioning Bogancio again. He lived
on the streets for most of his childhood. My grandparents and parents raised me
in a safe, rewarding environment.
Thank you for your opinion and time, fellow classmate Ian Jovi said as she
finished sipping her tea.
Oh, Ian said, remembering. Is there any particular reason you called me
out?
There is, Jovi said with an elegant smile. I wanted to meet and personally
talk to the master who raised such a delightful and honest servant.
Who? Ian asked, speechless. Bogancio?
When I played my violin piece in front of him, said Jovi, closing her eyes at
the memory. I noticed that he was struggling to listen to me. Jovi allowed a soft
giggle. However, Jovi opened her eyes again. When I asked him directly what I
should improve upon, he told me exactly what I had been having trouble for the
past week. I am too rigid when I play, but no one has ever pointed this out to me
except your fool. Not only is your fool honest, he is perceptive and quite clever.
T-Thank you, said Ian, breathless.
Also, Jovi said, remembering. She pushed a white envelope over to Ian. I
would be delighted if you and your two servants are able to attend my concert
this upcoming Friday.
This is quite an honor, Ian said, accepting the invitation.
Jovi stood up from her seat and said sweetly, Say hello to Bogancio for
me.

You ran into Jovi of the Third Years?!
At a cake shop near school campus, Bogancio and his three girlfriends were
sitting at a table right next to the All-You-Can-Eat stations of endless supply of
cake. With Kandyl by his side, Bogancio told the girls who he ran into when Andy
Blaire revealed what happened to him yesterday afternoon to everyone else. With
books, notes, and plates of cake in front of them, the girls were both studying and
eating at the same time. Of course, Bogancio was only enjoying a chocolate slice
of cake without thinking much about the upcoming midterms. However, him
mentioning Jovi's name totally caught everyone else off guard. They had
completely forgotten about their studies.
Yeah, Bogancio said. Who's she?
Oh my, Kandyl gasped. Our dear Bobo knows nothing!
I don't really care, Bogancio said bluntly.
Jovi is voted the most beautiful girl in school, Karenana said with a hint of
jealousy in her bitter tone.
I can see that, said Bogancio, making sure he wasn't drooling at the
thought.
Upperclassman Jovi is very cultured and polite, Andy Blaire continued,
poking her slice of carrot cake with a fork. She's also very skilled in both art and
music with pretty high grades.
I believe she's ranked tenth of the Third Years, Kandyl said, munching on a
slice of strawberry shortcake.
Karenana pulled a slice of angel cake toward her. Her family is very
prestigious. The other two girls nodded in unison. Her father's company exports
millions of products out of the country as well as owns a department store in
every populated city in the country.
In other words, said Bogancio, wrapping his arms in front of his chest.
She's the real deal. Karenana swallowed some cake and rolled her eyes. She's
beautiful, rich, talented, and good-natured. I like this a lot.
You like us, too, right? asked Kandyl with large, puppy eyes.
I'm here, aren't I? Bogancio asked.
Kandyl squealed and hugged his arm to her. I knew it!
It's strange, said Andy Blaire in a serious tone as everyone else turned to
her now. Back when I was with Ayden, he disliked whenever I talk about other
men around him. Andy Blaire kept poking her cake. Why is it that the three of us
are so at ease with Bobo meeting up with such a high class young lady?
For the next hour, the Fool took mental notes of what the three girls chatted
about while eating cakes with names like depression cake, black forest cake, and
simnel cake. He had never tasted such a huge variety of cake before. It almost
made him wish that he was born rich. Almost. Many times, he noticed that Andy
Blaire gave him a look of regret, which confused him more but they chose not to
talk about it until the very end.
If this doesn't work out, Andy Blaire said to Bogancio on the walk back to
the boys' dormitory. Kandyl and Karenana had already separated from them since
they lived in the girls' dormitory in the opposite of the school. There's a chance
my father might cause trouble for Nana and Candy's families, too.
Bogancio blinked. The power of a Superintendent.
I do not meant for everyone to be this involved.
If you didn't allow them to get involved, Bogancio said with a shrug as
they stopped in front of the mailboxes. They would be angrier with you. You saw
how passionate they are about this meeting.
Andy Blaire nodded. I never met female friends who care about me this
much.
We're literally an item now, Bogancio said. Your happiness is their
happiness.
Right, Andy Blaire said. Let's do our best with my father, then.
I'll try, said Bogancio before he noticed a familiar face leaving the
building. Master!
Oh, it's the Fool, Ian said, stopping in his steps.
On cue, Bogancio dropped on his knees and lowered his head. Please
forgive me, Master. I am not dating all these women out of spite for you.
Ian, please forgive Bogancio, said Andy Blaire, also pleading in front of the
blond noble.
I know, Ian said, nodding in acknowledgement at Andy Blaire and bending
down in front of Bogancio. I'm not mad at you anymore.
You're not? asked Bogancio, picking his head up in surprise.
I am actually quite proud of you.
Bogancio dropped his jaw. Master is... proud of me?
It is not a big deal, Ian said, helping Bogancio up on his feet. Fellow
classmate Jovi highly praised you to me this morning. Ian smiled proudly at his
Fool. She said I raised you well. I have never received such high praise from
someone of high class such as Jovi before.
Wow, Bogancio said in awe. I should thank her myself.
Well done, Fool, Ian said, patting Bogancio on the shoulder. You have
done well.
Since Ian was in a hurry to meet up with some male friends, he excused
himself right after. But the effect he had on Bogancio was immediate. Andy Blaire
noticed that Bogancio could not stop shaking out of happiness. The fool was also
grinning stupidly to himself. He had never been so happy in weeks! He hadn't
even attempted to win Master Ian back this time and Master fixed their
relationship on his own! Who knew that his luck was this good? Inwardly thanking
his ninety-eight mothers and the other women of the world, Bogancio chatted
more enthusiastically to Andy Blaire about random topics all the way inside.
You really do love your Master, Andy Blaire said to herself.
***
While his three girlfriends studied all weekend for their midterms starting
next Monday, Bogancio wrote his persuasive essay as well as explored the
forbidden areas of the school. He thought that with his current good luck, he
might run into other beautiful women out of nowhere. At least, he was that
hopeful until he bumped into Callie, who glared at the sight of him. This was the
first time they spoke to each other in a while since he mostly studied with butlers
rather than maids. They also had no reason to meet up.
Guess what stupid maid, said Bogancio, dropping his arm across her
shoulders. Callie elbowed him in the stomach out of reflex so he decided to keep
his distance from her. Master and I made up, but you probably already knew
that.
I know, Callie said through gritted teeth.
Bogancio grinned. This was payback for how horrible she treated him on a
daily basis. He would literally do anything to rub it in Callie's face. After all, she
was one of the most prideful women he had ever met in his entire life and he met
many women.
You must be fuming on the inside, Bogancio laughed, pointing at her.
It's always about you.
Bogancio cupped his ear. Come again, pinkhead?
Callie stomped on his foot before she said, Even when Master Ian is mad at
you, he only talks about you to me. Bogancio recovered from his bruised foot as
he gawked at Callie. I can tell that Master is not the same without you around. He
values your presence above anyone else. If it weren't for his pride, he would have
made up with you much sooner.
Aw, Bogancio said, hugging himself. Master loves Bogancio.
Then, when you've done something right, he keeps praising you, said
Callie bitterly.
Stop it, Bogancio said, grinning. You're making me blush!
But Callie has always been good to Master, Callie said in a lowered voice.
Unlike you, I don't get any praise.
Sucks to be you, Bogancio said, shrugging.
Callie stopped and whirled on Bogancio. You will be expelled from this
school someday, you fool, and when that day comes, I'll laugh.
That's the difference between you and I, Bogancio said, staring her
straight in the face. I don't hold grudges against people and neither does
Master. Callie rolled her eyes. We get mad at each other. We fight. We forgive
and make up. Life goes on. Bogancio noticed that Callie was glaring with such
intense eyes now. My thirteenth mother once told me that the majority of women
of this world hold grudges for life. I have no fucking clue what I've ever done to
you to make you hate me, but since you're never going to stop, I'm not going to
bother.
Good! Callie said, stomping away. I'd rather die than get along with you!
Same old Callie, said Bogancio after her. Poor soul. She'll never win over
Master's affections at this rate. Bogancio snickered to himself. What a loser.
Still, the fool was slightly curious what he had done to start this animosity
between the two of them. He recalled that when he became a member of the
Castillo family, he was on decent terms with Callie. They were not on friendly
terms, but they were not bitter enemies either. Then, something happened and
everything changed. He hated her because she was a two-faced maid and she
hated him because he was lazy and never really adjusted to acting like a servant
like her. No worries though! Bogancio would freak out even more if Callie were
nicer to him.
While exploring the open field where the track team was busy with practice,
Bogancio ran into a couple of his bullies who proceeded to chase after him. He
decided then and there that he should focus on that essay already before his
meeting with Andy Blaire's father Thursday evening. Even though Bogancio
despised essays with a passion, he managed to write a decent one that Tuesday
night and showed it to Andy Blaire and Kandyl. Karenana was too stressed over
her grades to show up that day.
Your grammar and spelling is beyond saving, Bobo, Andy Blaire said after
she finished reading his essay. But this is one convincing essay. Kandyl bobbed
her head in agreement. You really used everything we talked about at the cake
shop.
I wrote whatever, Bogancio said, not willing to admit how many hours he
spent on this piece of paper.
Let's polish this paper, Blaire, Kandyl said, clinging onto Andy Blaire's arm.
Understood, Andy Blaire said before she glanced at Bogancio one last
time. Have you been studying for your midterms, Bobo?
Bogancio laughed nervously. I hate studying.
You better not fail, Kandyl said, pouting. You'll have to repeat the grade
again if you do.
Yeah, yeah, Bogancio said, waving it off. I'll get my shit together.
The fool's girlfriends had no idea that Bogancio was planning to not study at
all. He was too consumed with thoughts of this upcoming encounter with the
Superintendent to ever think about touching any of his textbooks. In his head, he
kept figuring out what to say and what to do while he ate dinner together with
Andy Blaire and her father. If he managed to survive Thursday night, he had that
concert on Friday to attend. Even if he disliked classical music, it was worth seeing
Jovi's beautiful self on stage. Bogancio liked pretty girls and Jovi was in a league of
her own. Then, there was Saturday and Sunday when Bogancio felt the least
motivated to stay locked up in his room to study for classes he hated. In other
words, this studying business was not happening. But his girlfriends didn't need to
know that.
***
Thursday night came faster than the fool imagined. Shaking in the cold,
Andy Blaire and Bogancio were waiting in front of the school to be picked up by
her father, the Superintendent. Bogancio decided to wear the best clothes he
owned, which was really nothing but at least he somewhat tried. At last, after a
ten minute wait, Andy Blaire perked up at the sight of a man heading their way.
This must be her father.
The Superintendent or Bogancio's future father-in-law was exactly how
Bogancio imagined him to be. He was in his late forties and towering like his
daughter. With a beard and glasses, he came off as a strong yet intelligent man.
To Bogancio, this was a powerful man who would deem judgment upon him and
already, he was at a disadvantage in every way possible. The odds were imply not
in his favor. However, Andy Blaire stood strong next to him with a nervous smile
on her face.
"Father," Andy Blaire said, running over and hugging the Superintendent.
"Good evening."
"You've gotten thinner," The Superintendent said, glancing over in
Bogancio's direction like it was his fault.
"This is my boyfriend, Bogancio," Andy Blaire said proudly, returning to
Bogancio's side.
"The one with two other girlfriends," The Superintendent said in a deep yet
loud voice. Bogancio could tell the critical tone in his voice right away. "As well as
the Castillos' fool."
Obviously, the Superintendent was already harsh on our dear fool based on
what he heard from other students as well as Andy Blaire's letter to him about her
new boyfriend and her choice to cut relations with Ayden. Sure, Ayden was a
playboy and slightly immature for his daughter. The Superintendent was fully
aware of this. However, the Superintendent also believed that Ayden would grow
out of it by the time the two of them were scheduled to get married.
In contrast, this Bogancio of the servant half of the school was completely
wrong for his daughter. Not only was he a servant which meant that he would
never own a house or land without his Master, he was not handsome enough for
his beautiful daughter. Even worse, his grades were below par, probably in the
bottom twenty percent bracket of the entire school. Therefore, there was little
chance of him graduating and attaining an independent job away from his Master.
In summary, in the eyes of the Superintendent, Bogancio had no beauty, status,
money, or brains. And to top it off, Bogancio had two other girlfriends besides his
second child. There was no other explanation for this- Andy Blaire had been
tricked.
"That's me," Bogancio said with a grin.
"Andy, are you sure about this?" The Superintendent asked his daughter,
holding onto the slim hope that this was all a joke.
"Yes," Andy Blaire said firmly. "Bobo agrees to marry me one day. That's how
serious we are about each other."
As he thought, his daughter was not really a joking type of person. She
inherited his seriousness and morals through and through.
"Is that true?" The father asked Bogancio directly.
"That's right," Bogancio said, now knowing why she asked him about that
serious topic in the first place.
"After two and a half weeks of dating?" The Superintendent asked
incredulously.
"That is how strong our relationship is," Andy Blaire said, unfazed.
"You mean your relationship with him and two other female classmates,"
The Superintendent said in the same harsh tone.
Andy Blaire bowed and said, "Yes. More than anything, I love Candy and
Nana!
"I wrote an essay," Bogancio said, holding up a letter.
"The first good news of today," The Superintendent said. "You can write."
Both Andy Blaire and Bogancio exchanged a look, knowing fully well that
was not true. Bogancio was struggling with writing and reading more than math.
Before he met Master Ian, Bogancio could only read common words like "bread" or
"on sale". As for writing, Bogancio only knew how to write his own name pretty
much. Literally, everything he could read and write now was because Master Ian's
parents taught him and his one year of schooling here. He also attended some
private lessons with Mistress Genevieve before, but that was about it. His level of
reading and writing were nothing compared to his classmates, even if they
composed of other fools, butlers, and servants. He didn't even want to think about
his level compared to the nobles and richer classmates.
At the steakhouse where the Superintendent ate dinner with his daughter
and the fool, Bogancio was struggling with understanding the menu. This was the
exact same situation with that double date with Karenana. Bogancio inwardly
groaned. Why did food have to have such ridiculous names nowadays? Sure, he
could sound out the syllables to read and figure the dishes out, but it would have
embarrassed Andy Blaire in front of her father. Instead, he pretended like he knew
what he was doing by checking out the pretty pictures. His inner turmoil was not
left unnoticed by the observant Andy Blaire.
"Bobo," Andy Blaire said, peering at his menu. "Would you like to share a
dish?"
Bogancio could tell she was helping him so he went along with it. "Let's do
that. How about you pick the dish? I don't mind anything."
"Oh, Bobo," Andy Blaire said, patting him on the shoulder. "Always putting
me ahead of yourself."
"Yeah," Bogancio said awkwardly. "That's me all right."
"I read your essay, Bogancio," The Superintendent spoke up from across the
table after Andy Blaire and he ordered. "It was well-written and persuasive for a
servant." Andy Blaire and Bogancio lightened up. "However, it was unnecessary
because I do not have issues with how many people you choose to date."
"You don't?" asked Andy Blaire, surprised.
"Your mother married twice before she met me," The Superintendent said to
Andy Blaire. "As you well know since your brother only shares half your blood."
"Oh, I thought she was only married once before," Andy Blaire said,
frowning.
"I do have another issue with your relationship," The Superintendent said,
gazing at the pair intensely. The waiter came by to drop off their drinks. "Correct
me if I'm wrong but my daughter is actually your third girlfriend?"
"Yes," Bogancio said, glancing at Andy Blaire nervously. This sounded like a
trick question.
"Who are the other two girlfriends you are currently dating?"
Bogancio gulped and answered, "My first girlfriend is Karenana of the Third
Years."
"Her father single-handedly turned the fashion world upside down," The
Superintendent said, mildly impressed. "Karenana herself is ranked third in the
entire Third Years. A well-mannered and intelligent young lady."
Andy Blaire smirked at the thought of Karenana in reality. "Yes, she is."
"How about the other one?" asked Superintendent to Bogancio.
"My second girlfriend is Kandyl of the Second Years," Bogancio said in a
more formal voice than he was used to.
"Ah," The Superintendent nodded thoughtfully. "Her mother is in charge of
the family registries of the entire country and a remarkable woman at Statistics. I
hear Kandyl herself is an above average woman with a kind heart."
"That's her all right," Andy Blaire said, feeling more at ease around her
father now.
"I have a dilemma here," The Superintendent said, switching back to his
strict mode. The other two straightened up, anxious. "I have no problems with you
dating three women if it pleases you, Bogancio, but why should my daughter be
number three in your harem?"
"Father!" Andy Blaire cried. "Bobo was dating Candy and Nana before he
met me!"
"You're young, Andy," The Superintendent said in dismissal. "You don't know
better." He returned his stern gaze at Bogancio. "If your boyfriend chooses to
marry you alone, there is no problem. But..." The Superintendent clasped his hand
on top of the table. "If he marries all three of you, we have a problem."
"What kind of problem?" asked Bogancio, afraid.
"You children are probably not aware that in our legal system, the first wife
receives all the power as well as benefits from the government."
Bogancio blinked. "Benefits?"
"If you were to die," The Superintendent said bluntly, causing Bogancio to
shiver at the thought. "Your first wife would inherit the family registry." Andy Blaire
and Bogancio exchanged a look, thinking of Karenana. "In other words, my
daughter would be at the mercy of your first wife if anything were to happen to
you since your first wife would inherit all the land, status, power, and money."
"I had no idea," Andy Blaire said with wide eyes.
"By being third, Andy," The Superintendent said. "You are also giving the
second wife power over you and your future children."
"Candy would never do anything like that," said Bogancio defensively.
"That's because she is only sixteen," The Superintendent said with his
unwavering gaze on Bogancio. "Once she becomes an adult and realizes how
much power she has over my daughter, she will use it. I guarantee you."
"I..." Andy Blaire said, looking down. "Believe in Candy and Nana."
"That's foolish, Andy," The Superintendent said. "One day, you will
understand how frightening women with power are. They might be harmless now,
but--"
"I won't let that happen," Bogancio said with the most confidence he
mustered throughout the entire meeting.
"You won't let my daughter be stepped on by your other spouses?" The
Superintendent asked with a raise of his brow.
"To me," Bogancio said, determined. "All three of them are equal. I only
have one life and I will make sure with this life of mine that they are respectful to
each other." Bogancio glanced at Andy Blaire who still had her eyes lowered.
"Besides, the girls are best friends. They love each other. I cannot see that
changing in the future, even if they have more power and money."
That's right, said Andy Blaire, siding with Bogancio. Nana and Candy are
two of the most wonderful people I met in my life. They are important to me. I
cannot imagine either of them wanting to marry Bobo for benefits or power.
Both of you are young, ignorant, and inexperienced, The Superintendent
said, annoyed at their stubbornness. He drank down a whole glass of water before
he continued at Bogancio, If you truly love and care about the well-being of my
daughter, He narrowed his eyes dangerously. You will change her position if you
two are to marry one day and that's final.
That was the end of discussion. Thanks to the heavy atmosphere, the three
chose to eat the rest of dinner quietly except for munching sounds. While Andy
Blaire thought about how to make up with her father, Bogancio's thoughts turned
to Karenana. How much did she know about this? There was no doubt in his mind
that his first girlfriend was devious and intelligent so was there any chance at all
that she wanted to be number one so badly for the power? That seemed to be in
Karenana's personality. On the other hand, though, Karenana would be the least
interested in marrying him someday so maybe there was no problem at all. He
was probably thinking too much for once and allowing himself to be sucked in by
the Superintendent's argument.
On their walk back to school campus, Andy Blaire kept her silence for five
minutes before she poke up, My father isn't usually like that.
I can't tell, Bogancio said honestly.
He was probably apprehensive about his daughter dating.
That makes sense.
Andy Blaire released a heavy sigh. Plus, my family is in debt.
At how depressed Andy Blaire sounded, Bogancio reached out and grabbed
a hold of her hand. He thought this would make her feel better. Indeed, the
bodyguard lifted her eyes in awe at Bogancio before she blushed and squeezed
his hand. This led to Andy Blaire closing the distance between them as she laid
her head against the side of his arm.
Bobo, I'm really sorry for all the trouble, Andy Blaire said softly.
This is nothing, Bogancio said, laughing. I've been through worse.
You're a strong coward, she said, holding back her laugh.
That doesn't make sense, Bogancio said. But yeah, I don't mind. My fiftysecond mother once taught me that when you date a girl, you are basically dating
all her friends and family, too. Andy Blaire nodded against Bogancio's arm. You
also have to be strong and carry the baggage that comes with her.
Your mothers are wise, Andy Blaire said.
Some are smarter than others.
One day, I wish our classmates would understand that dating is not all fun
and games, Andy Blaire said, watching her breath in the cold air. By dating three
of us, Bobo has to be three times as strong to lift three times the amount of
baggage.
I want to run away at the thought of it, Bogancio admitted.
But you won't, Andy Blaire said, snuggling against his arm. Because you
love us all fairly and without discrimination. In return, we return our love for you.
Because of Andy Blaire's trust in him and the girls, Bogancio did not have
the heart to tell her of his suspicions of Karenana. Somewhere in his heart, he
hoped that he could understand Karenana's heart better. Was she sticking by him
and the other girls because she loved them or wanted the power of being first
girlfriend and maybe first wife? Whatever the case was, Bogancio promised
himself he would not show any signs of it in front of Karenana and the others. It
was way too soon to care about any of this anyways and his brain was beginning
to hurt from everything, especially from essay writing.

Fool.
Breaking out of his thoughts, Bogancio lifted his head and forced a smile at
Master Ian. Are you ready, Master?
That Friday evening, Bogancio and Ian were inside Ian's room while he got
ready for the concert. Callie was already done and waiting in the lobby for them.
While Ian went back and forth between two suits (both of which looked alike to
Bogancio), he noticed that Bogancio was too quiet for his taste. Like he thought,
Bogancio seemed to be lost in thought as he stared into space with a frown on his
face. Something must be troubling the fool and rarely anything bothered the fool
so Ian decided to speak up.
Not yet, Ian said. Why so quiet today, fool?
It's about my girlfriend.
Ian frowned. Which one?
Andy Blaire, Bogancio said, realizing a tad late that he should be more
specific.
I heard you met with the Superintendent, Ian said, standing in front of
Bogancio now. Was the meeting unfavorable? Were you told never to approach
his daughter again?
That old fart doesn't like me, Bogancio said in agreement. And I doubt he
will ever accept our relationship in the first place so that's not it.
What else is there? asked Ian, baffled.
Her family is in debt, said Bogancio honestly, knowing that Ian would not
tell anyone else about this secret. Andy's family might have to sell their house
soon.
Shrugging, Ian went back to this closet where he finally picked his suit and
changed into it. At last, they were finally done as they headed downstairs where
Callie was dutifully waiting for them. Even if Bogancio hated her face and attitude,
he admitted that the pink-haired maid looked nice in her formal white dress. He
would never admit it out loud to her though.
Before they entered the stadium where the concert was taking place, Ian
excused himself to check his face in the men's room. Bogancio spotted an empty
bench so he dashed over and claimed the seat before anyone else could. Once he
was seated and stretching, he noticed that Callie still stood outside the restroom
area with her stance stiff and her eyes alert.
Pinkhead! Bogancio yelled at her. You look stupid standing there!
Angry, Callie stomped up to him and said, And you look pathetic, fool.
You're not old yet. Stand and tend upon Master like a real servant.
No thanks, Bogancio said, yawning loudly. My leg fell asleep.
Useless like always, Callie spat.
Hey, retard, Bogancio said, pointing at her dress. Where you get that?
Master ordered it for me, Callie said with a slight blush on her cheeks.
He doesn't appreciate you, huh?
Shut up, fool!
Bogancio leaned back in his seat. You probably heard already, but I got the
chance to dine with the Superintendent. Callie grumbled something about how
he should stop rubbing it in her face. I can tell he doesn't like me at all and will
never agree to me dating his daughter, but he's making some shitty excuse about
how he doesn't want his daughter to be bossed around by Nana and Candy.
What is this? asked Callie, slightly curious.
You know, how the first wife in a polygamy relationship in our country gets
all the power and money...
Callie laughed out loud. That's bull shit.
Bogancio grinned. Exactly!
You don't have any land or money for that to be an issue, Callie said,
rolling her eyes. And Master is not obligated to feed and clothe you either so you
really have nothing for any woman to fight over for. He just hates your guts and
finds a petty excuse to mask his distaste.
Even if it's you, Bogancio said, feeling better. It is so nice to talk to
another servant!
Fool, I despise you, Callie said under her breath. You are the most useless
servant in the history of servants. Bogancio blinked at her. They were not fighting
for once and he liked that better. Why did she have to revert back? But I am
starting to respect you.
Or not.
Where did that come from? asked Bogancio, terrified.
Nowhere, Callie said quickly before she pointed at him. Just don't let that
man tell you what to do. He's not your Master. You only have one Master.
You don't have to tell me that, Bogancio said, standing back up at the
sight of Master Ian leaving the restroom. I might not seem like an ideal servant,
but I'm always loyal to Master Ian.
Well, and Mistress Genevieve, Callie reminded with a frown.
Yeah... said Bogancio, groaning at the thought.
Sorry for the long wait, Ian said to his two servants. Let's hurry inside.
Yes, Master! Callie said, returning to her sweet and bubbly self. Callie is
so excited to hear Mistress Jovi play the violin!
Ian smiled at her. You should thank the fool for the opportunity.
Callie pouted. Callie doesn't like that idea.
It's okay, Bogancio joined in. Callie glared at him behind Ian's back. I
wouldn't want thanks from such a fake, ugly maid anyways.
Master! Callie cried. The fool is making fun of Callie again!
Stop it, Ian said to both of them. Behave before I dismiss both of you.
Sorry, Master, said Callie and Bogancio in unison.
Not long after Bogancio sat down on Ian's left side, the lights dimmed,
signaling the start of the concert. Bogancio had no interest in music, especially
not classical music with no words. For Master Ian's sake though, he tried his best
to stay awake. It was torture for him though because the whole event was so
goddamn boring. By the midway point of the concert, Bogancio fell asleep for a
good five minutes before he jolted up at Callie pinching his side hard. For once,
Bogancio was thankful for her. If Ian caught him, he would have been in heaps of
trouble.
Finally, for the last violin concerto, Jovi stood up from her seat and the
spotlight was on her. Before, she had been sitting in the front row of the violins so
Bogancio didn't notice her among all the fancy instruments and musicians. But
now, with everyone's attention on her, Bogancio really took in her beauty during
her violin solo. With her blonde hair in a long, elegant braid, she radiated even
more than before. Her green eyes gleamed under the light of the stadium. Despite
the formal white and green gown, she managed to move more than last time she
performed for him. Bogancio could not believe his eyes. She actually took his
advice seriously!
That was so beautiful, Callie said, wiping tears from her eyes with a
handkerchief on their walk back to their ride.
Yeah, said Bogancio, enchanted by Jovi's performance as well.
Fellow classman Jovi really is a genius violinist, Ian said, also satisfied.
Master, Callie said, peering at Ian. Do you like her?
Ian flushed red. That's impossible!
Why not? asked Callie in a teasing voice.
She is not within my reach, Ian said quickly, blushing even more. Her
mother is nobility like us and her father is president of that branch. She is also
beautiful beyond compare. I am nothing compared to her.
Nothing is impossible for Master! Callie said in encouragement.
It's fine, Master, Bogancio said, grinning. Ian turned to Bogancio. I'm sure
someday a girl will like you for who you are and then-
Bogancio! Please wait!
Since the voice did not belong to any of his girlfriends, Bogancio turned
around all confused, only to gawk at the sight of Jovi with bouquets of flowers in
her arms waving at him. Callie dropped her jaw. Ian was so speechless that he just
stood there and stared. Not this again. Why was it always the fool? The same fool
who had no looks, money, status, or brains? Everyone else in the room was also
baffled at why Jovi singled Bogancio out.
Before this moment, Jovi was bowing and greeting some important people
when she spotted Bogancio from the distance. She assumed that he would at
least greet her and tell her she improved before he left the concert. How surprised
she was that he would not say anything to her! Could it be that she had not
improved at all? She worked so hard to not be so stiff as before. She even poured
her heart into her playing. How hard could it be to impress a mere servant?
Please wait for me, Bogancio! Jovi said in a louder voice.
Bogancio blinked and shouted back, Okay!
Without warning, Ian smacked Bogancio on the head. Be more polite
please.
Sorry, Master, Bogancio said slowly.
Because of the amount of people who recognized her and wanted to
congratulate her stopping her to chat, it took Jovi a long time to even make it
halfway to where Bogancio was at. Since Bogancio was impatient by nature, he
decided he should head over to where she was instead. Furthermore, he wasn't
wearing an annoyingly large gown like her. As Bogancio pushed past this heavy
man with a mustache, he noticed that Jovi was literally right in front of him.
Excited to see him, Jovi reached out and stepped toward him, only to stagger over
someone's leg and drop all her bouquets of flowers.
Shit, Bogancio accidentally cried out loud as he caught her into his arms.
You all right?
Jovi picked her head up and stared into his eyes. This gown is very heavy.
I can tell, Bogancio said, pulling her up to her feet. You should wear skirts
or something.
I should? asked Jovi with wide eyes. Do you believe I will look better in
them?
Yes? asked Bogancio, thinking of legs.
I shall look into that, Jovi said, wiping her gown of invisible dust. In the
meantime, please evaluate my performance.
Er, Bogancio said, noticing everyone staring at them. It was beautiful?
Jovi followed Bogancio's distracted gaze and smiled sweetly at him. You
cannot be yourself with so many eyes on you. Jovi grabbed a hold of Bogancio's
arm and dragged him away from everyone else. I used to be shy, too, so I know
how you feel.
Me? Shy? asked Bogancio, allowing him to pull her away.
Upperclassman Jovi, one of the male students called after her. Where are
you going?
I need to talk to Bogancio privately, Jovi informed the boy before she
continued on her way with Bogancio in her grasp.
The crowds started murmuring about Jovi and Bogancio and their possible
relationship with one another. If Bogancio weren't famous already, he would be
now. After Jovi and Bogancio vanished, Ian bent over and picked up one of the
bouquets on the ground with an unreadable expression on his face. Callie stayed
by his side and patted him on the shoulder.
Master...
Callie, Ian said, turning to face his maid. Is there no end to this?
Callie is unsure, Master, Callie said, frowning. What will you do, Master?
I will talk to Father and Mother.
Callie's eyes sparkled. And?
And help Andy Blaire's family out in their time of need.
Really, Master? asked Callie, hiding her disappointment.
Bogancio is my fool and Andy Blaire is my fool's girlfriend, Ian said,
smelling the roses. Therefore, her family is also my responsibility.
Unable to help the rare smile on her face, Callie said, Well said, Master.
In her dressing room, Jovi touched her violin case before she whirled around
to face Bogancio with a beautiful smile. Bogancio knew he should not have
followed her in here. If she were as popular as everyone else made her sound to
be, he was in so much trouble with Master Ian, who would most likely
misunderstood their relationship like always. But in the end, he was fine with her
dragging him since she was pretty. Rule of thumb- as long as you're beautiful, you
can get away with murder.
Please, Jovi said. Be honest with me. Is there anything I can improve on?
You want me to be honest? asked Bogancio, wary.
I insist.
You sure about this?
Positive.
Bogancio lifted a brow at her. You won't cry?
I am a woman who will do anything to improve myself, Jovi said with her
right hand over her heart. Bogancio was not convinced so Jovi added in a shaky
voice, I might have a pretty face and I might have many servants and I might
have a controlling father and I might have no real friends, Jovi gasped for breath.
But I want to be proud of my life and what I do.
concerts and social parties, Jovi wore a skirt, especially to school every day. With
this small change, Jovi felt she was able to walk more freely through life.
