Maintenance: Clean your suppressors mounting system and muzzle device after every use to ensure mating surfaces

are free of copper and carbon fouling. Failure to clean the mounting system can result in your M4-SD II becoming stuck to the muzzle device on your weapon. No other maintenance is required with this silencer. If the silencer for whatever reason becomes filled with water, shake out excess water in the direction of the rear mount and store unit muzzle up to dry, or bake at 300F for an hour to dry at the earliest convenience. An Oatey No. 31328, 3/4 In. Heavy-Duty Inside Diameter Fitting Brush can be used to clean the mount surfaces inside the suppressor. This brush is available for $2.20 currently at Home Depot in the plumbing department, and can be purchased online from other retailers. The brush has carbon steel bristles so residue left on the 17-4PH Stainless mount by the brush may give the appearance of very light rust- Application of Hoppes number 9 or some other cleaner/protectant to the mounting bore between uses will prevent that as well as help to loosen copper fouling. The carbon steel bristles have higher strength necessary to easily remove copper fouling. Make sure you clean both the rear mounting interface and front flash hider support as this is a second bearing surface for the flash suppressor. Finish: Operation at temperatures exceeding 1100F after firing more than 100 rounds in 1-3 minutes, may damage the finish which is Norrell Moly coating and has a minimum thermal breakaway of 1000F. If refinishing is desired, rub the old loosened, heat affected coating off with rubbing alcohol and a clean rag and apply the finish of your choice. We recommend Norrell Moly, or 1200F matte black grill paint. Use a light coat with the locking gate down and silencer standing on the rear cap. Painting the mount bore, locking gate, or locking gate pocket may result in tolerance interference, rendering the unit inoperable till interfering coating thickness is removed. CAUTION: The M4-SD Silencer confronts the Impulse noise at the muzzle of your weapon and cannot account for the actions associated operating noise which will vary by weapon type and barrel length. For the highest level of hearing protection, wear hearing protection at all times while using your silencer.

Thankyou for purchasing an M4-SD silencer. Please read these instructions carefully prior to use. The M4-SD II 5.56 sound suppressor is rated for 5.56 NATO ammunition in barrel lengths down to 10.5. Longer barrels will provide maximum suppressor wear life. 1/7 twist rifling is recommended. Flash Suppressor compatibility: There is a broad spectrum of NATO groove dimensions tolerated by the specifications of the A1/A2 muzzle device. In order for your flash suppressor to be ideally compatible the rear groove will need to be 0.124-0.128 wide. That dimension will be accurate of most flash hiders. If you would like to test compatibility, measure the groove with a caliper, or ensure the locking gate rises and falls into the groove with minimal resistance. If the groove is outside that range you will need to purchase another $6-8 flash hider and replace it. Do not force the locking gate into engagement. If resistance to disengagement is felt, use penetrating oil such as PB blaster to assist in dismounting. Do not force- pry, or beat on the locking gate- The part is very hard and may break or bend. Flash suppressor mounting: See the included, but separate, M4-SD II Compensator manual for compensator or flash suppressor remounting procedures to ensure optimal compatibility with the M4-SD II suppressor. This is required to ensure safe use of your suppressor, and the addition of a tabbed M4-SD II suppressor stop washer will allow the suppressor its full, intended feature functionality. To mount your M4-SD silencer, address the suppressor with the back of your non firing hand and grab the two ears of the locking gate with your middle and pointer fingers. Apply slight upward pressure while using your thumb to deflect the spring plate approximately 0.065 by pressing on the raised tab of the spring. This will unlock the latch which is then free to move. Lift the latch to its full upright position. Insert the A1/A2 style muzzle accessory into the rear mount of the M4-SD to the stop tab on the provided washer mounted behind the muzzle device. Align the locking gate with the flat on the muzzle device opposite the suppressor stop washers protruding tab, and drop the latch into the fully seated position. The 45 degree angled surface on the latch will lift the spring plate which will then lock the latch. Observe and confirm the spring plate has locked the latch- the spring will audibly click as it engages the raised locking geometry on the latch. Attempt to lift the locking gate without disengaging the spring tab. If the gate does not lift, the suppressor is properly mounted on the A1/A2 muzzle device. This check is important, so ensure that you

do check. Firing the suppressor with the locking latch unlocked will result in the suppressor flying downrange and this will be accompanied by aggressive recoil which can injure the shooter if any part of the weapon should collide with the shooters face. Confirm Alignment! The procedure for confirming alignment is covered in the included, but separate, M4-SD II Tactical Compensator Installation Manual and begins with the weapon clearing procedure outlined in the beginning of that manual. The M4SD was designed to be mounted to a standard issue A1 Birdcage flash suppressor or A2 compensator. Peel washers will provide the best alignment and most insurance against baffle strikes, so we recommend using a peel washer in conjunction with 20-34 foot pounds of torque. Do not use split lock washers or crush washers. Split lock washers are spring loaded on one side of the bore and will not allow proper alignment of muzzle devices to occur on properly threaded barrels. Crush washers do not crush evenly. Before the first use on each unknown weapon it is imperative the operator check suppressor alignment on that weapon. To remove your M4-SD silencer, lift the spring plate .07, raise the latch, and remove the silencer. Do not deflect the spring when the silencer is hot unless the situation is an emergency in which the silencer needs to be removed from the weapon. When your silencer is not in use, store the locking latch in the full down position. Do not over-deflect the spring. Doing so may cause it to bend or take a set. If this occurs, contact Hearing Protection LLC to purchase a replacement. Recommended rate of fire considerations: The M4-SD is constructed of TIG welded high temperature, aerospace alloys including: 316L Stainless Steel, heat treated 17-4PH Stainless Steel, and heat treated 718 Inconel. Your M4-SD is extremely durable; however care should be taken to prolong service life. The recommended maximum rate of fire is no more than two thirty round magazines on full auto, followed by the mil-spec rate of fire for the M4 carbine which is 14 rounds per minute sustained. Longer barrels such as the 14.5 M4 barrel operate at lower pressure and permit the end user to adopt a more aggressive fire schedule. Do not quench/cool your heated silencer with water, ice, or snow. Quenching metals will em-brittle them, can warp parts, and may damage or destroy your silencer. Allow your silencer to air cool.
