FADE IN: EXT. SCHOOL - NIGHT The white buildings of a large school stand out against the black night. All the windows are dark. Three teenagers - two girls and a boy - are walking the perimeter of the school, each with a carrier bag. EXT. BACK GATE - NIGHT The three teenagers are the back gate of the school. They are all around seventeen and wearing Halloween costumes - one girl is a witch and the other an angel. The boy is holding the angels hand. The boy, MARK, steps forward and shakes the gate and confirms that it is locked tight. He finds a foothold and pulls himself up. The angel starts to follow him, but hesitates when the witch, EMMA, speaks. EMMA Im not sure about this. Mark twists around, still half way up. moves back to Emma. EMMA (CONTD) (glancing at Mark) And Id just be in the way. KATIE Dont be stupid. Come on. The angel - KATIE -

She holds out her hand. After a moments hesitation Emma breaks and takes it. They walk to the fence together. EXT. SCHOOL DRIVEWAY - NIGHT The teenagers make their way up the winding road towards the school buildings. Behind them their is hidden in shadows on the other side of the gate, watching them. INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - NIGHT The corridor is in darkness, the only faint light coming from the moon. The two girls follow Mark quietly down the corridor.

INT. CLASSROOM - NIGHT The door opens and Mark leads the two girls into the empty classroom. They stand still but Mark moves about the room, first carefully shutting the door and then closing the curtains fully. Only then does he turn on the lights. He turns to the girls and grins at them. EMMA What if we get found? MARK We wont. Katie walks over to Emma and hugs her. KATIE (whispers) Please. Mark begins to unpack bottles of alco-pop and bags of snacks from his carrier bag. MARK Whos ready for a drink? He pulls out a Swiss-army knife and uses it to remove the caps from three bottles before holding them out. After glancing at Katie one more time, Emma takes one of the drinks. EXT. SCHOOL DRIVEWAY - NIGHT The figure from the back gate is walking towards the school buildings. INT. CLASSROOM - NIGHT The three teenagers are now sitting in the middle of the room in a circle of candles. They have moved the desks back against the wall and turned the lights off. An iPod dock plays music. All of them laughing as they drink. EMMA No way. I promise. MARK He did.

They all break into laughter again, and as Katie reaches for another drink Mark catches Emmas eye and smiles.

INT. SCHOOL CORRIDOR - NIGHT A long, dark corridor. A figure appears at the far end, running. white. They are wearing

As she gets nearer we see that its Katie and shes crying hard - and her white dress is covered in blood. EXT. SCHOOL OFFICE - NIGHT Katie almost slams into the office door as she reaches for the handle. She fumbles several trying to turn the handle. INT. SCHOOL OFFICE - NIGHT Katie tumbles She collapses seconds. After a couple of RINGS the call is answered. OPERATOR Emergency services, whats the nature of your -KATIE (cutting her off) Help me. I need a police... an ambulance. Police. OPERATOR I just need to confirm your -KATIE We need help now. FLASHBACK -- Emma lying on the floor, bleeding heavily. BACK TO SCENE KATIE ... oh god. OPERATOR I have to take some details from you, but I promise that this wont delay the ambulance or the police. OK? Shes...

KATIE I think shes... OPERATOR Whats your name? KATIE Katie. OPERATOR And can you confirm the address you are calling from Katie? KATIE North Island. North Island School. OPERATOR Is that where the incident has happened? KATIE He just lost it. He went crazy.

OPERATOR Has somebody has been hurt? Katie is just crying hysterically. OPERATOR (CONTD) I know this is very difficult for you, but I need you to tell me exactly what has happened. Can you do that for me? KATIE He... he had a knife. FLASHBACK -- A blade swings in a vicious arc. BACK TO SCENE OPERATOR Who has been stabbed Katie? Emma. FLASHBACK -- Emmas face as shes being stabbed. KATIE My friend, Emma.

BACK TO SCENE OPERATOR Who attacked her? KATIE Mark Sanderson. OPERATOR What happened? KATIE We just wanted to have a laugh. didnt want to... but he got so angry. I

She twists and twists the phone cord as she forces herself to speak. KATIE (CONTD) We tried to calm him. We tried to leave. But he wouldnt listen. He was so angry. OPERATOR Youre doing so well. KATIE He picked up the knife and -FLASHBACK -- The knife blade being opened. BACK TO SCENE KATIE We tried to fight back. Emma was so strong. She managed to turn the knife. FLASHBACK -- Marks face as his stomach is cut. BACK TO SCENE KATIE But it wasnt enough. OPERATOR Where did he stab her?

SERIES OF FLASHBACKS: KATIE The chest. -- A thrust to the chest. KATIE (CONTD) The arm. -- A cut to the arm. KATIE (CONTD) The back. -- Emmas face and torso twist as a blade comes down into her back. BACK TO SCENE OPERATOR Are you with her now? KATIE No. I had to run. phone. I left her. To find a

OPERATOR Would he know where the phone is? The words are getting through now. KATIE What? OPERATOR If you knew where to go - would he? Katie suddenly looks around her and notices for the first time that the room is lined with windows. She looks about wildly for anyone approaching. KATIE Oh god. OPERATOR You have to find somewhere to hide. The police will be there in five minutes - but you must find somewhere to hide. Katie ducks down. OPERATOR (CONTD) Do you understand me? KATIE Yes. Then go. OPERATOR Now. She pauses to

The corridors are like a maze, each looking the same as the last. Katie creeps down them as quickly as she can, desperate to not make a sound. Halfway down one corridor, a noise spooks her. She drops down into a squat and freezes. Her head darts in all directions but she doesnt see or hear anything. Standing back up she hurries on even faster than before. EXT. CLASSROOM - NIGHT Katie arrives at a door. turning the handle. She looks around her before slowly

INT. CLASSROOM - NIGHT It is the party room. Both Emma and Mark are still in there and very much alive and well. They are not injured, and they are pulling away from an embrace. MARK Its not what it looks -KATIE Dont. She is standing with her hands behind her back. the blood on her top. MARK Youre bleeding. She pulls the knife from behind her back and absentmindedly scrapes it across her own chest. KATIE I know. She steps towards them. FADE TO BLACK. TITLE CARD - NEXT MONTAGE - SCENES FROM THE NEXT EPISODE: -- Katie walking down the front steps of the school in the glow of the flashing police lights. -- Katie wrapped in a blanket, being hugged by her a woman. We see her face over the womans shoulder - and its cold and emotionless. -- A replay of Katie with the knife, but this time we see the door to the room is cracked open - and someone is watching. -- The witness creeps towards the back gate of the school, away from the lights of the police. FADE OUT. He notices
