make to and Irom school, which is unsaIe. b. II I can increase my sleep I will not get as
tired during the day and will improve my perIormance in my classes. It will also make
me a saIer driver.
B. TARGET BEHAVIORS:
TB#1. I want to increase my sleep period from about 5 hours to 7 to 8 hours per night.
Baseline: I kept a journal oI when I actually was able to get in bed and about what time I
was able to Iall asleep and wake Ior a period oI 1 week. This behavior can be used for
Goal #1.

TB#2. eed and take the dogs out at 8 PM.
Baseline: I have noticed that I haven`t been Ieeding and taking the dogs out until 10 PM
or later. This behavior can be used for Goal #1.

C. & D. BARRIERS & STRATEGIES

Barrier 1: I am always putting assignments oII to the last minute so I oIten have to stay
up late to get my work done. Applies to TB#1.
Strategy 1: I will try and ensure that I accomplish my assignments while I am at school
on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I will also take time on Monday and Friday,
while my kids are at school to work on my assignments.
Barrier 2: I like to stay up late to watch television. Applies to TB#1.
Strategy 2: I will make sure not to start watching a new show aIter 1030 making sure
that I have recorded any shows that appear to be oI interest to me, so that I will not be
tempted to stay up.
Barrier 3: On Wednesday nights I don`t arrive home until about 9 PM because oI class.
Applies to TB#2.
Strategy 3: Upon arriving home I will immediately take the dogs out and Ieed them,
instead oI sitting down and watching TV Iirst. I will also ask my wiIe to have a dog ready
Ior me to take out upon my arrival.
Barrier 4: I get distracted by watching some oI the shows that come on directly at 8 PM.
Applies to TB#2.
Strategy 4: BeIore watching any shows at night I will go ahead and take the dogs out. I
will make sure the shows are set to record so that I can watch what I have missed by
taking the dogs out.
E. S&PPORT
For this project my support will be my wiIe. She has agreed to help by having one oI the
dogs ready to go out when I arrive home on Wednesday nights. She also has agreed that
we will watch shows together only aIter the dogs have been out and Ied. Together we will
also make sure that our children are in bed by 8 PM so that it will be easier to get the

OVERVIEW:
A. Did you reach your goal(s)? Did you engage in your target health behaviors (in
specific terms such as percentage of days I adhered to the plan) as planned? Why or
why not? (10) es, I Ieel that I was able to increase not only the amount oI sleep I got on
a Iew days, but also the number oI days that I could have increased sleep was improved.
OI the 28 days planned to actually utilize a schedule oI ensuring that the dogs were out
and Ied, and not watching late night TV I was able to adhere to it Ior 24 days. This in turn
produced an adherence oI 86.
B. What obstacles/barriers did you encounter? Were they the ones you expected &/or
did you encounter new/unexpected ones? How did they affect your target
behavior(s)? (10) No the obstacles that I encountered traditional students might not
encounter since they involved my children. Over the course oI the month both oI my
children at diIIerent times were sick and would usually wake up about the time I had
planned to go to bed. These were obstacles that couldn`t be planned Ior, because oI the
nature oI sickness. A Iew days that I did Iind myselI wanting to stay up and watch TV I
always knew that I had the shows taping so it was easier Ior me to turn the TV oII.
C. Did you use the strategies that you originally intended and/or did you need to
implement new ones to meet the anticipated or new barriers discussed above? How
effective were the strategies? Discuss each one separately. Which ones were most
effective? (10) No I was able to utilize the strategies that I had outlined originally. They
were helpIul in organizing my night time activities. And my wiIe was a super supportive
during the nights that I had night class.
D. D. Will you continue your project? Why or why not? (10)
es, I will continue to work on my sleeping habits because they are not only good Ior myselI they
are good Ior my wiIe as well. As I go Iorward with improving the number oI hours oI sleep I will
probably also insert some type oI nightly exercise that would help me rest immediately when I lay
down to bed.
