world and the U.S.
The return trip of the U.S. participants to India and Bangladesh is scheduled to take
place from January 2-16, 2008. During this Exchange Program, the participants would
take part in The Delhi Consultation of South Asian Scholars and Activists on Peace
Building is Islam and Other Religions (January 5-6, 2008), visit the historic Aligarh
Muslim University in Aligarh, and then travel to Dhaka and Chittagong in Bangladesh
where they would interact with a number of alumni and others at Dhaka University and
Chittagong University
MESSAGE FROM DR. RIFFAT HASSAN
As Director of “Religion and Society : A Dialogue” Program, it is my special
privilege and pleasure to take five distinguished American scholars, preachers, and
community activists to South Asia on a Return Trip that marks the second exchange visit
of the Program. The U.S. participants visiting S. Asia (January 2-16, 2008) are: Professor
Dr. Leonard Swidler (Temple University, Philadelphia), Rabbi Dr. Daniel Polish (New
York), Dr. Aslam Abdullah (Las Vegas, Nevada), Professor Dr. Ingrid Shafer (Oklahoma
City) and Ellyn Crutcher (Louisvill, Kentucky). Joining them will be Dr. Syed Zafar
Mahmood and Sardar Muhammad Iqbal Khilji, alumni from India and Pakistan respectively.
They will also be joined by Moiz Amjad, alumnus from Pakistan, at the Delhi Consultation.
It is a great honor for the University of Louisville to be the sole recipient of a
second prestigious grant from the U.S. Department of State. The first grant had enabled
us to initiate the “Islamic Life in the U.S. “ Program (2003 - 2007) , a pilot project
focusing on Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, that is considered to be a model
project by the U.S. Department of State. The second grant which has made it possible to
implement a follow- up Program entitled “Religion and Society: A Dialogue” which
focuses on Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. The first exchange of this Program which
brought 14 S. Asian Muslim participants to the U.S. (October 27 - November 17, 2007) is
