Why should I use Power Editor?

Power Editor is a new, complimentary tool which replaces and enhances the capabilities of the Bulk Uploader . For businesses who manage multiple campaigns with a large number of creatives, or who currently use Bulk Uploader, Power Editor should lead to major improvements in efficiency by making it easy to create, edit, manage and optimize ads and campaigns in a bulk manner, even across a large number of different ad accounts .

Visit your Ads Manager at www.facebook.com/ads/manage Click on the Power Editor tab on the left side of Ads Manager Install Power Editor and open it In Power Editor, click on Download . You can choose to download all your accounts or select ones only

Power Editor is structured in several panes to allow you to view different levels of information at the same time .

LEFT PANE

The left pane contains all your accounts and campaigns . Clicking on an account in the left pane will display all your ads or campaigns in the main pane . Clicking on a campaign in the left pane will display all your ads in the main pane . B ADS OR CAMPAIGNS TABS You can toggle between an Ads and Campaigns view using the tabs .

C MAIN PANE In the Ads view, the main pane will display all ads for the campaigns and accounts selected in the left pane . In the Campaigns view, it will display all campaigns for the accounts selected in the left pane . You can select multiple ads at the same time by using the Shift key for contiguous items, and the Control or Command keys for non-contiguous items . D BOTTOM PANE The bottom pane displays editable fields about ads or campaigns . Clicking on one of the ads or campaigns in the main pane will automatically open up this ad or campaigns details in the bottom pane . If you select multiple ads or campaigns, you can use the bottom pane to make changes to several ads or campaigns at once .

Analyze performance
Before using Power Editor to make changes to your ads or campaigns or create new ones, you can start by analyzing the performance of your current ones . You can customize the metrics you want to see about your ads and campaign by clicking on Settings in the right hand corner and selecting or deselecting each metric for both the Ads and Campaigns tab .

You then need to click on the Stats drop-down button in the top navigation bar in order to select a date range and get stats for this date range .

4 Ways to edit your ads & campaigns

With Power Editor, you can edit any field of your ads and campaigns that you would be able to edit in Ads Manager . This can be done in 4 different ways .

Edit individual ads or campaigns inline in the main pane
From the main pane, you can edit some fields of your ad or campaign inline by double-clicking on this field . For campaigns, you can only edit the campaign name inline . For ads, you can edit the ad name, status, bid, bid type, title, body and link . Please note that you cannot edit several ads or campaigns at the same time using this method .

Edit one or multiple ads or campaigns at the same time using the bottom pane
You can select an ad or campaign by clicking on it in the main pane, or select multiple ads or campaigns at the same time by using the Shift key for contiguous items, and the Control or Command keys for non-contiguous items . You can then edit all of the ads or campaigns fields from the bottom pane . For an ad, these fields include creative, targeting (Location and Demographics, Likes & Interests, Connections, Demographics, Education & Work), pricing and status fields . For a campaign, these fields include budget, flight date and status .

Edit your ads or campaigns by copy/pasting to and from Excel
You can copy your ads and campaigns to Excel, edit them in Excel, and paste them back to Power Editor . In the Ads or Campaigns view, you have to:
Select one or multiple ads or campaigns Press Ctrl+C/Command+C Open an Excel spreadsheet and select a cell, then press Ctrl+V/Command+V in Excel

All your campaigns or ads details will be pasted, with headers for each column . You can edit all the fields of your ads and campaigns in Excel except Ad ID, Campaign ID and Image Hash . After making your edits, you should:
Select all the rows in your Excel table, including headers Press Ctrl+C/Command+C Go back to Power Editor and select an ad or campaign, then press Ctrl+V/Command+V

Edit your ads and campaigns by importing and exporting to and from Excel
You can export several ads with their campaign information in the same spreadsheet . Each row will represent a different ad within a campaign . You can then make changes in Excel, and import the entire spreadsheet back into Power Editor . In order to use this functionality, you should start by:
Selecting one or more ads or campaigns Pressing the Export button to open the file in Excel

If you selected several ads, your ads will appear with their campaign information . If you selected several campaigns, all of the ads in these campaigns will appear as separate rows in the Excel spreadsheet . If you want to make edits to existing ads or campaigns, you can edit all the fields of your ads and campaigns in Excel except Ad ID, Campaign ID and Image Hash . After making your edits, you should:
Save the Excel file to your hard drive, press the Bulk Import button in Power Editor to import this Excel file, using Import Choose File . Alternatively, you can copy the spreadsheet using Ctrl+C/Command+C, press the Bulk Import button in Power Editor, select Import Paste into text area, then paste using Ctrl+V/Command+V .

In order to edit images for specific ads, we recommend to change the ad image from the bottom pane, by pressing the Choose button under Creative -> Image, regardless of the method you are using.

3 Ways to create new campaigns

Use the Create Campaign flow

To create a new campaign, you should start by clicking on the account that the campaign should belong to, select the Campaigns tab and then click the Create campaign button . An empty campaign line will appear: you should then enter the campaign name in line in the main pane, and fill out

the campaign details in the bottom pane . The new campaign name will now appear in bold in the left pane, to remind you that this is a newly created campaign . In the Campaigns tab, a + sign will appear next to the newly created campaign .

Duplicate an existing campaign

You can select one or more campaigns in an account, press the Duplicate button, and then proceed to update the newly created campaigns with your changes . You can also duplicate a campaign by copying and pasting it in place . Select the campaign and press Ctrl+C/Command+C and then Ctrl+V/Command+V . The new campaign will appear at the top of the campaigns list .

DUPLICATING AN EXISTING CAMPAIGN DOES NOT DUPLICATE ADS WITHIN THAT CAMPAIGN. Once you have created new campaigns, you should proceed to create or add ads within each of these campaigns by following the directions for creating new ads .

Finally, you can also copy a campaign from one account to another by selecting the campaign and pressing Ctrl+C/Command+C, then selecting the account the new campaign should belong to and clicking Ctrl+V/Command+V .

Create new campaigns by copying them from Excel
You can create new campaigns from existing campaigns using Excel . In order to do this, you can:
Select a campaign from the Campaigns tab in the main pane Copy this campaign using Ctrl+C/Command+C, and paste it into Excel using Ctr+V/Command+V Erase the Campaign ID and Campaign name fields in Excel and leave them blank Edit all the other fields In Power Editor, click Ctr+V/Command+V When youre finished, select all the rows in Excel and click Ctrl+C/Command+C Add new rows (without Campaign ID or Campaign name) in your Excel spreadsheet for each new campaign you want to create and fill out all the fields

All your newly created campaigns should be added to your existing campaigns in this account .

4 Ways to create new ads

Please note that Power Editor currently only allows you to create ads, but not Sponsored Stories . We encourage you to visit http://www.facebook.com/ads/create to create a Sponsored Stories campaign .

Use the Create Ad flow

To create a new ad, you should click on the campaign that the ad should belong to, select the Ads tab and then click the Create ad button . An empty ad line will appear: you can then fill out the ad details either inline or in the bottom pane by going through each of the steps of the ad creation process (Creative, Location & Demographics, Likes & Interests, Connections on Facebook, Advanced Demographics, Education & Work, Pricing & Status) . Contrary to the Bulk Uploader, Power Editor has type-ahead functionality for Likes & Interests, Country, City, Connections, Friends of Connections, Languages, Education and Workplaces . In addition, the estimated reach will allow you to assess whether the population youre targeting is too small . If you want to use for your new ad an image youve already used for another ad, Power Editor also offers you an Image Library to facilitate the ad creation process . When you want to choose a image in the Creative tab in the bottom pane, a pop up will show you all the different images

currently used across all your campaigns in this account, so that you can choose the one you want for your new ad . If you want to add an image that you have never used in any other ad before, you can simply click Choose file in the pop-up .

The campaign containing the new ad will now appear in bold in the left pane, and will have a + sign next to its name .

Duplicate existing ads

If you want to create a new ad that is very similar to one of your existing ads, you can simply select this ad and press the Duplicate button . A new ad with exactly the same parameters and settings will be created next to the original one . You can then make any edits you want to this new created ad . You can also duplicate an ad by copying and pasting it in place . Select the ad and press Ctrl+C/ Command+C and then Ctrl+V/Command+V . The new ad will appear at the top of the ads list . Finally, you can copy an ad from one account or campaign to another by selecting the ads and pressing Ctrl+C/Command+C, then selecting the campaign (including a campaign in a different account) the new ad should belong to and clicking Ctrl+V/Command+V .

Create new ads by copying them from Excel
You can create new ads within existing campaigns using Excel . In order to do this, you should: Select the campaign your new ad should belong to Select an ad within this campaign in the Ads tab Copy this ad, and paste it into Excel Remove the Ad ID and Ad name in Excel You can edit all the fields except the campaign ID and the Image hash . Add new rows (without Ad ID or name) in your Excel spreadsheet for each new ad you want to create in this campaign Select all the rows in Excel and click Ctrl+C/ Command+V In Power Editor, click Ctr+V/Command+V Please note that in order to change the image, you should create your new ad using the same image hash as the original ad, and change the image directly from Power Editor using the bottom pane. All your newly created ads should be added to your existing ads in this campaign .

Create new ads by importing an Excel spreadsheet
You can create new ads in Excel by exporting existing ads, adding new ads as new rows, and then importing your spreadsheet back to Power Editor . You can also create new ads within new campaigns all at once . In order to use this method, you should: Select one or multiple ads or campaigns in the Ads or Campaigns view in the main pane, and click on the Export button Open then Excel template and save this file on your hard drive . This Excel template will show you the campaign and ad details of all the ads you have selected, or of all the ads belonging to the campaigns you have selected Alternatively, you can copy the spreadsheet Add a new rows in the spreadsheet for each new ad you want to create, and fill out all the columns except the Ad ID . If you want to create new ads within a new campaign, you should also leave the Campaign ID blank . Using the Image Upload functionality of the For more information about this, please see the Things to know about using Excel with Power Editor section of this guide Bulk Import button, add your pictures one by one or by uploading them as a zip file . Please make sure that your pictures names match the name you entered in your Excel spreadsheet under the Image column . using Ctrl+C/Command+C, press the Bulk Import button in Power Editor, select Import Paste into text area, then paste using Ctrl+V/ Command+V Once you have created all your new ads, press the Bulk Import button in Power Editor to import this Excel file, using Import Choose File Add the name of each pictures file for each ad in the Excel spreadsheet under the Image column, so that Power Editor will be able to recognize which image belongs to each ad

If you are used to creating ads using the Bulk Uploader spreadsheet, you can continue to do so by using the Bulk Import button in the top right-hand corner. It will allow you to import your bulk spreadsheet as well as your images, either one by one or in a zip folder.

Upload your changes

You should always click Upload to upload all the new ads and campaigns you have created, and all the changes youve made to existing ads and campaigns . A + sign will appear next to newly created ads or campaigns, or campaigns that contain new ads . An arrow will appear next to any ad or campaign that has been edited . Campaigns in the left pane will be bolded if youve added or edited any ads in them, or if youve created them . We also encourage you to visit your Ads Manager after uploading your new ads and campaigns to make sure that all your changes are reflected in Ads Manager .

You can revert any changes you made on an ad or campaign since the last time you either successfully downloaded or uploaded your account information to Power Editor. You just have to select this ad or campaign and press the Revert Changes button. Please note that if you use this functionality on an ad or campaign that youve just created and havent uploaded yet, this ad or campaign will be deleted.

Tips for using Excel with Power Editor

If you copy a campaign from Power Editor to Excel and you...
Keep the campaign ID and/or campaign name untouched Remove the campaign ID but keep the campaign name Remove the campaign ID and remove or edit the campaign name Change the campaign ID to an ID that doesnt exist in the account Any edit you make will update the existing campaign once you paste your changes back to Power Editor. Any edit you make will still update the existing campaign once you paste your changes back to Power Editor. A new campaign (with that new name, if any) will be created.

An error will occur.

If you copy an ad from Power Editor to Excel and you...

Keep the ad ID and/or ad name untouched Remove the ad ID but keep the ad name Remove the ad ID and remove or edit the ad name Change the ad ID to an ID that doesnt exist in the account Any edit you make will update the existing ad once you paste your changes back to Power Editor. Any edit you make will still update the existing ad once you paste your changes back to Power Editor. A new ad (with that new name, if any) will be created.

An error will occur.

If you use the Export functionality to make edits or create new ads and campaigns and you...
Remove the campaign ID and/ or campaign name but keep the ad ID / ad name Change the campaign ID or campaign name Remove the ad ID and ad name but keep the campaign ID or campaign name Remove the campaign ID, campaign name, ad ID and ad name The changes you make on this ad will still be updated because Power Editor will be able to recognize the ad.

An error will occur.

A new ad will be created within that campaign.

A new ad will be created within a new campaign.
