Teacher’s Notes
Task 1
1. Play the scene from 0:07:07 to 0:10:14 with sound off and without subtitles.
2. Ask students to tell what they think is going on in the scene.
3. Ask students if they can identify what the man is doing. You can write the following options
on the board.

 A man is introducing himself


 A man is apologizing for something
 A man is inviting the woman to go out.

4. Encourage students to justify their decision. What makes them identify the apology.
5. Elicit from students different ways of apologizing in different contexts.
6. Write what students suggest on the board.
7. Possible options:
 I’m sorry….
 I’d like to apologize for…
 Excuse me.
 I owe you an apology.
 Please accept my apologies.
 I regret…

8. Play the sequence from 0:07:07 to 0:10:14 with sound on but without subtitles and ask
students to listen to the apology made by the man. Ask students:
What does the man apologize for?
Who does the man apologize to?

9. Give students a copy of activity 1 and ask students to listen and number the sentences in
chronological order.
