Celtic Holiday Concert


Westfield Washington Public Library Board of Trustees: Mike Thomas, President Carolyn Wheeler, Vice President Paul Catlin, Treasurer Mic Mead, Secretary Get in the holiday spirit with a free Celtic Holiday Concert at the library on Thursday, December 8! Celtic fiddler, Emily Ann Thompson, along with her husband Kelly, perform at 6 p.m., and will play traditional songs of Christmas and the winter holiday season from Ireland, Scotland, and England, mixed in with some fast jigs and reels. Emily sings and plays the violin/ fiddle and piano. Kelly performs on guitar, percussion, and mandolin. They perform over 100 shows a year in many venues around Indiana as well as nationally. This show is educational, lively and appealing to all ages and will definitely put you in the holiday spirit!

Annual Nearly New Book Sale

Its time once again for the Friends of the Westfield Library annual Nearly New Book Sale! There are hundreds of very Ken Christiansen gently used books available at prices ranging from $1 to Nancy Knochel $6, and all are suitable for gift-giving or just treating David Weiss yourself. The Friends Only Preview Sale (you can become a Friend at the door) is Friday, December 2, at 6 p.m. The sale is open to everyone from Saturday, December 3 The Library Board through Saturday, December 10, during regular library hours. The Westfield Washington Public Library will close on Saturday, December 24, and remain closed until Tuesday, December 27, in observance of the Christmas holiday. It will close again on Saturday, December 31, and remain closed until Tuesday, January 3, in observance of the New Years holiday.

We have a new, self-serve fax machine, located between the two catalog computers on the wall oppsite the New Book shelves. Cost to send a domestic fax is $1.50 for the first page, and $1 for each additional page. An international fax is $4.95 for the first page, and $3.45 for each additional page. There are stepby-step instructions, and credit (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover), debit and check cards are accepted. Faxes may still be sent to the librarys fax number: 317-896-3702. There is a $.50 charge for each page received. Your Evergreen card has an expiration date. Most cards expire after two years, and this is simply to ensure we have your most current information on file. If you are checking out materials, you will be asked to verify the information in your file, and thats it. Evergreen Software Update From December 9 until December 11, our Evergreen software will be going through an update.

During this time, we will continue to check out materials for you, but the catalog, Your Account and the ability to place holds will not be available. You will also not be able to download Overdrive e-books. New cards will not be issued, and we will not be able to accept fines. No materials will be due on the days the system is not available, and all services will be back to normal on Monday, December 12.

For Teens Only


Anime Manga Club Anime and manga enthusiasts are invited to join us every Monday for the Anime Manga Club. Hang out, watch anime and have snacks starting at 2:30 p.m. You must be 13 or older, or have a parentsigned permission slip to attend. Teens Only Movie The first Tuesday of each month is Teen Movie Time at the library. We need you to help choose and plan teen library activities. These programs are for you, so come and tell us what you want! E.M.O. Club E.M.O. is a club started by teens for teens that meets to play the Wii. You can play just for fun or in real competition against other teens. The library has Wii games to play, but feel free to bring your own. Teens supply the food, so bring some or make a donation. Volunteer Opportunities at the Library


Do you have some extra time? Do you enjoy the library atmosphere? We are looking for volunteers! Here are some opportunities: - Shelve adult fiction on a continuing basis, one or two - Straighten books on the shelves and be sure everything is in its proper place. Give a shelf one or more hours a week and help keep times each week. This will involve lifting books of various sizes and shapes. Our shelves range from very high to very low, so there will be stretching and bending. our collection looking good and books easy to find. Childrens Activities
Baby Love Birth to 18 Months Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. December 1 & 8 Give your child a head start to early literacy with this unique program of rhyme, play and song. Free Holiday Storytime Miss Vicki presents a special Holiday Storytime on Monday, December 5, and again on Tuesday, December 6. Enjoy holiday stories, songs, fingerplays and rhymes. And, of course, there is an art project, craft, or activity afterward. On Monday, times are 10:30 a.m. for Toddlers (18 months to 3 1/2 accompanied by a caregiver) and 1 p.m. for Preschoolers (3 1/2 - Kindergarten). On Tuesday, times are 10:15 a.m. for Preschoolers and 11:15 a.m. for Toddlers. The program is free, and registration is not required. Yu-Gi-Oh/Pokemon Club All Ages Second Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. Next Meeting: December 14 Bring your cards, play the games, trade cards, and have fun! Free American Girls Club All Ages Second Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. Next Meeting: December 8 Make fun items for your doll and hear an American Girl short story. Free Homeschool Day Join in on a fun and social event for all those in the area who homeschool. Gather at the library the first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. to play video games, make crafts and meet others in the community who homeschool. Be part of the free fun, and you dont need to register. Next Meeting: December 1 Secret Santa Workshop The library is having a Secret Santa Workshop! Dont miss this opportunity for kids age 3 and up to make gifts for the special adults in their lives on Saturday, December 10, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children will leave with handmade treasures wrapped and ready to give. There is a charge of $1 for each gift. A Gingerbread Christmas Enjoy a festive fun evening full of stories, games, crafts, and holiday activities at A Gingerbread Christmas at the library on Monday, December 12. Miss Vicki will read a story at 5, 6 and 7 p.m., but if you attend the last reading, be sure to come early enough to do all the other fun activities before the story! A Visit From the Tooth Fairy Come to the library on Friday, December 2, at 10:30 a.m. for a Visit with the Tooth Fairy! The Fairchok Family Lily, Michele, Lance, Lydia and Gene - are always there at the end of each sale to put the unsold books back into storage. Sincere thanks to them for their continued assistance! The Friends of the Westfield Library is an organization designed to promote and support the mission of the Westfield Washington Public Library. Through its fundraising efforts, primarily book sales held every other month, and our Annual Craft Bazaar and Silent Auction, the group raises money used to fund library programs and to purchase items that are not within the library's operating budget.
