What is Survey ? A survey is a data collection tool used to gather information about individuals.

Surveys are commonly used in psychology research to collect self-report data from study participants. A survey may focus on factual information about individuals, or it might aim to collect the opinions of the survey takers. A survey can be administered in a couple of different ways. In one method known as a structured interview, the researcher asks each participant the questions. In the other method known as a questionnaire, the participant fills out the survey on his or her own. A survey is a method of gathering information from a number of individuals, known as a sample, in order to learn something about the larger population from which the sample is drawn. Although surveys come in many forms, and serve a variety of purposes, they do share certain characteristics. In order for the objectives of a survey to be met, the results must reliably project on the larger public, from which the sample is drawn. A sample can be scientifically chosen so that each individual in a population has a known chance of selection. This ensures that a sample is not selected haphazardly or uses only those eager to participate. The sample size for a survey will depend on the degree of reliability necessary and how the results are to be used. A properly selected sample should be able to reflect the various characteristics of a total population within a very small margin for error. There are many surveys that study the total adult population but many others that focus on selected populations: employees, academics, industry experts, computers users, or customers that use a particular product or service.

Why do we need to Survey? The only way they could accomplish their objective would be by asking questions which they could genuinely understand and then plan a strategy accordingly. Although this idea may seem outlandish, in my humble opinion, it is also what separates the great companies on our planet from the Wannabes. The greatest RISK in marketing lies in dealing with OPINION instead of fact. Stated another way, risk and the threat of loss is rooted in the idea that you think you already know the answer. There have been thousands and thousands of books written on the importance of surveying. I will attempt to summarize the best ones here with a one simple acronym which I created. S Successfully U Understanding R Relevant V Values E Enhances Y Yield A survey gives us the opportunity to understand and take that understanding and apply it to creating a higher return on our investment. When we successfully understand our customers relevant values we can then create the solutions that will permit us to enhance our yield. A good survey allows us to be in communication with our marketplace.

Example of Survey?

2.1 History of School

The Las Pias East National High School traces its roots in 1986, when the principal of CAA Elementary School, Mr. Floro Zapanta, opened the door of his school to house the high school students. He started it with two first year sections and a second year section whose classes were held in the evening after the dismissal of the elementary students. Like a healthy tree planted on rich soil, enrollment continued until the host campus could no longer accommodate the increasing student population. This prompted Mrs. Purification Aranda, principal of Las Pias National High School and Mrs. Ma. Luisa Santos, head of the Guidance Services of the same school, to appeal to their municipal mayor, Honorable Rosalino Riguera, for a school site. This triumvirate worked very hard in negotiating a school site at Verdant Acres Subdivision in Pamplona 3. The noble endeavor paid well for a resolution, Resolution No. 116.89 series of 1989, was adopted by the municipal officials segregating the 4,000 sq.m open space located in the said subdivision to be the site of a new public high school. The construction of a 10-classroom, 2-story building marked the birth of Las Pias East National High School.

To start running a new school is to start running a new system, and this has never been easy. With the construction of an initial school building came more concerns. To be able to hold classes the coming school year, the school still had to compete installing facilities and systems necessary for holding classes. Electric systems were yet to be installed, comfort rooms still had to be built, and the building was yet to be painted. There was no budget necessary for all of these to be accomplished. The mayor of Las Pias then appropriated Ph100,000 for the construction of the comfort rooms and another Ph56,000 for the installation of an electrical system. After completing the needed tasks, the school finally opened its doors for high school students for school year 1990-1991. The noble endeavor of the people behind the birth of the school did not go in vain for the school remained truthful to its duty to the community. In February 1992, the school was grated its independence funded by the local government. In 1997, after hurdling all challenges that a public high school could possibly meet, the Department of Education recognized the schools accomplishments and was given the national status in its operation. Guided by its vision to accomplish its mission, the Las Pias East National High School remains faithful to its call to provide quality education

for all, to be able to produce students who will become strengths and pride of the Filipino society.
