1he air we breath holds diverse substances coming from particulate matter, gases, fog or fibers. 1hey are called aerosols. Studies about the level of harmful substances and their impact on health have resulted in installing air purification systems - in particular for ventilation. We differentiate between filters for coarse and fine dust, as well as for airborne particles. 1hey have different levels of efficiency and areas of use. 1herefore distinct test have been developed: fiIter for coarse dust belonging to classes LN 779 G1 through G4 are treated with synthetic dust in order to determine the level of gravimetric arres- tance. fine dust fiIters belonging to classes LN 779 lS through l9 are treated with types of aerosols to determine their efficiency. 1he average efficiency is determined by a particle count for substances 0.4 m in size. HhPA (High hfficiency ParticuIate Air)/ULPA (UItra Low Penetration Air) fiIters belonging to classes LN 1822 H10 through U17 are classified by a level of arrestance called Most Penetrating Particle Size" (MPPS) 1he MMPS range - depending on the media options - between 0.3 und 0.1 m. 1he filters' efficiency depends on criteria such as velocity or local conditions such as humidity. Considering that mi- cro-organisms might gather inside the filter, the maximal final pressure drop should not be the only criteria for re- placing a filter. 1he dust holding capacity is given in gram, it describes how much dust was extracted by the filter media while being tested. 1he different testing methods and requirements can not be compared. 8ut similar prerequisites form a good basis for comparing the media's durability. lor gaseous impurities, HS-Luftfilterbau offers differ- ent kinds of activated carbon for standard and custom- ized usage. lmpregnated activated carbon is especially equipped for filtering acid smoke, ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, methyl iodine or similar substances. lilter for air purification systems are ranked by certain standards. ln Lurope, filters absorbing coarse and fine dust, are classified LN 779. Airborne particle filters are certified according to LN 1822. 1he following table shows norms and classification: Class according to LN 779 medium arrestance A |%j lcon C1 A<6S
