inding an iconic item from the last several

decades using all the letters in the alphabet has
been a fun travel through time. While searching
through boxes of old black and white photos to jog
my memory, I came upon the Western Union
Telegram sent by my father Joe, from the Bronx, NY,
to his father Harry, in Utica, NY, on Wednesday,
October 18, 1950, the day I was born. The telegram
announced my name and stated that Betty and baby
were fine. A 61 year-old Western Union Telegram was
the perfect way to represent the letter W.
At home I surround myself with the common
everyday things of the past six decades. All of these
old things have a familiarity to me that is fun and
comforting at the same time. Many of these items
have as much usefulness today as they did years ago.

eaders responded positively to
my effort a few months ago to
show the disconnects in our
world and encouraged me to
write more of the same. (And I thank both
of you for your input.) Without a resound-
ing endorsement, but with an inner guide
that says Im right about 50 percent of the
time, I offer another column based on the
topsy-turvy nature of things.
I want you to raise your hand:
If you think life is not as sweet since
the Wawa lines got long
If youre not sure if were still fight-
ing in Iraq
If you still remember your times
tables
If you feel left out because you didnt
notice the huge August earthquake
If you cant believe there are still
shopping carts with wobbly wheels
If you dont understand the difference
between @, #, and : )
If youve been having trouble
sleeping
If you think its the fault of Congress
If you dont understand your cell
phone plan
If you think Michele Bachmann is
too short to be President
If you think Walmart has the lowest
prices because of the way it treats its
employees
If you think things are just plain get-
ting meaner
If you think theres not a whole lot
wrong with raising taxes on the wealthy
If you hate riding around the whole
shopping center parking lot to get to the
way out
If you got really hurt by the real
estate crash
If you think politics and religion
dont mix
If your teenager has a piercing or a
tattoo
If you dont understand the metric
system
If you realize the good times are
never coming back
If you still think shots came from the
grassy knoll
If youre afraid of hitting a deer on
dark country roads
If you think the Republican presiden-
tial candidates are a sorry lot
If you like Ritas Water Ice
If you want more retail stores to treat
customers like Ace Hardware on Lincoln
Avenue
If you dont think its the fault of the
poor people
If you want to know, after all these
notices, whether the water supply in
Vineland is safe or not
If you dont know what the demands
of the Occupy movement are
If you think teacher bashing has got-
ten out of control
If you wish Christmas shopping was
a little more fun
If youd vote for Ron Paul if you
thought he could win
If youre a bit uneasy now with new
anti-immigrant laws in some states
If you think TV sets in America
should be on less than eight hours a day
on average
If you dont understand how the
stock market works
If you think big box stores are too big
and have crappy stuff in some of their
boxes
If you think food should be cheaper
in the greatest country in the world
If youre not sure which country is
the greatest in the world anymore
If you think sliced bread is not the
right standard for things being the best
thing since
If you dont know what you would
tweet if you were on Twitter
If you dont understand your life
insurance coverage
If you think cable, phone, and
Internet will soon cost more than $79 a
month
If you think your childs sports coach
is an idiot
If a school bus has pulled out in front
of you
If you think you are usually right. I
Our columnist offers a humorous, albeit frank,
assessment of everyday living.

CCC Holiday Card
Design Winners Named
Cumberland County College student
Sarah Sutton of Buena, a graphic arts
major, took first place honors in the col-
leges annual 2011 Holiday Card Design
Competition.
Since 2000, CCC students have been
designing greeting cards and the first-
place entry is mailed regionally, and to
recipients throughout the United States,
as Cumberland County Colleges official
holiday card. Suttons design was one
of more than 45 entries in this years
contest.
Graphic design major Michael
Rugenus, of Bridgeton, won second
place, and Brian Cottrell-Thompson, a graphic design major from Millville, won
third place.
Cumberland County Colleges annual holiday card design competition gives
students the opportunity to produce portfolio materials while promoting
Cumberland's fine and graphic arts programs.

Ellison Interact Club Spreads Holiday Cheer
Ellison students are frequent visitors to Maurice House in Millville, but their holiday visits are extra special. This year, the
students began singing carols as they decorated a Christmas tree with ornaments they had made. Next, the students paired
up with the residents to play Christmas Bingo, followed by juice and cookies.
"Most of these students have visited Maurice House for many years, yet still look forward to going back again and
again," says Ellison Interact Club Adviser, Mary Jane Kinkade. "Their desire to help is sincere and it shows as they work
together throughout the year on a wide range of service projects."
Youth-sized versions of Rotary Clubs, Interact Clubs are formed to teach the importance of service learning to children as
young as 10 years old. Ellison's Interact Club is the first to form at the middle school level in this Rotary district and was char-
tered by the Rotary Club of Vineland in May 2011.
TOP LEFT: Ellison Interact Club members gather around a tree they decorated during a recent visit to Maurice House, an assisted-living
facility in Millville. From left: (first row) Kevin Kinkade, Jonah Hammerstedt, Jenna Troyano, Madison Rudolph; (second row) Germaine
Smart-Marshall, Abigail Rosenberg, Jessica Rudolph, Della Anconetani; (third row) Jake Ottinger, Sarah Consalo; (standing, left of tree) Jake
Walters, Wyatt Chapman, Niko Basolis, Jake Aulffo; (standing on right of tree) Spencer Infranco, Anuj Patel, Luca Basolis, Julia Albertson.

In fact, as the strength in my hands weakens
with age, I am more thankful now than ever
for my simple old jar lid opener. My jar lid
opener depicts the letter J.
I like to take the time thats needed to use
my old black rotary dial telephone. The long,
slow process of dialing a phone number one
number at a time today is a practice in
patience. After I lift the heavy receiver to my
ear and listen for the hum of the dial tone, I
begin to turn the dial with my finger. I sit and
watch and slow myself down while waiting
for the dial to spin back to its starting place,
then dial the next number. This leisurely
process of dialing until
all seven numbers are
entered is a reminder
of a time when, except
for dreams, time was
all we had. Rotary dial
telephone symbolizes
the letter R.
Every house in the
neighborhood once had
a milk box sitting on
the back steps. The
milkman drove a clean
white truck to each
door to make his early
morning delivery of a
quart of fresh milk,
cream, and juice in
glass bottles, butter,
and eggs, all from the
local dairy. Before retir-
ing for the evening, my
mom wrote a note to
the milkman telling
him, Please leave 2
quarts of milk or
Please leave 1 quart of
milk and 1 dozen eggs. She put the note in
the bottom of the milk box along with the 29
cents per quart or 42 cents per dozen.
Delivering his products before sun-up gave
his customers the freshest foods possible to
prepare their breakfast. I never actually saw
our milkman, but at about age 10, thinking
that going door-to-door to deliver food in the
middle of the night might feel a bit lonely, I
got out my good old Crayola crayons and
enhanced Moms notes by coloring over her
lettering and drawing decorative pictures
around the border. Id like to think that our
milkman looked forward to my fancy notes
and that they helped to brighten his day.
Today an old milk box sits at my back step
and is a repository for bug spray and memo-
ries. This home delivery system is long gone,
and leaves behind a melancholy nostalgia.
The milk box is a symbol of the letter M.
My husband Ed has a bright yellow
Radiological Survey Meter, otherwise known
as a Geiger Counter, circa 1961. Having grown
up during the Cold War and listening to adult
conversations of fall-out shelters, nuclear
attacks and radiation in our ground, food and
water, Ed couldnt pass up an opportunity to
own an original Geiger Counter when he
found one for sale at the back of an old Civil
Defense surplus catalog. Manufactured by the
Victoreen Instrument Company, Clevelend,
Ohio, our Geiger Counter is in perfect work-
ing order and serves as a bookend on a shelf in
our den. Its just the right itemfor the letter G.
If you were in your teens when the four
young men fromLiverpool, EnglandJohn,
Paul, George and Ringocollaborated to make
beautiful music, you might remember what it
was to be a Beatlemaniac. In the fewshort
years they were together, the Beatles changed
the face of music. In the 1960s, the Beatles
brought a newsound to a newgeneration, a
sound that came fromthe Zenith radio that
sat on our kitchen counter. This music wasnt
on my parents radio station. My friends and I
developed a newappreciation for that stodgy
old Sunday night TV host, Mr. Ed Sullivan.
Thanks to himand the visual enhancement of
TV, we Beatle fans got to see and hear The
Fab Four in black and white, on console TV,
right in our living rooms. Their cuteness drove
girls to tears and boys to growing their hair
long to imitate the newlook.
The phenomenon of the Beatles was not
embraced by everyone, especially parents.
Old folks called them names that by todays
standards are considered politically incor-
rect. My mother was born and raised in
Britain and came to the United States as a
war bride. Happily for me, she said that if
these young lads were British, they were
okay by her. Mom even deemed Paul to be
the cute one. I couldnt agree more. B
stands for Beatles. Yeah, yeah, yeah! I

Vineland Public Schools Principals Lists for First Marking Period
Vineland Public Schools have released the list of the students in grades 3-12 who earned Principal's List honors for the first marking period.
To achieve this distinction, high school students must have a grade-point average of 3.75 or above. In elementary and middle schools, students
must have all A's. Student grades at the high schools are "weighted" while those at the elementary and middle schools are not. As a result, the
grade-point average for achieving the principal's list at the elementary and middle schools is 4.00 while at the high school it's 3.75.

In Our Schools I
Veterans Mentoring at Veterans Memorial School
Veterans Memorial
School has established a
mentoring partnership
with Big Brothers/Big
Sisters of Cumberland &
Salem Counties, accord-
ing to Joe Morello, a
social studies teacher at
the school.
The program is a pilot
program using veterans
as school based men-
tors. The first pairing
included Diana Pitman,
Cumberland County
Veteran Affairs Director,
and Nyla Hill, a seventh
grade student at
Veterans Memorial. The two met for the first time on November 9.
"The mentoring program extends our desire to involve veterans into our school
culture," said Morello. "We want our veterans to know they are important members
of our school family. We continually look for ways to prove that our connection to
our veterans is sincere and genuine. We want them to know that we appreciate
them every day."
Morello said the experience veterans bring to our students is "invaluable."
"These life lessons are better than any text material we could purchase," he said.
"Students need to appreciate the sacrifices many have made so that we all benefit.
What better way to accomplish this than by making real life connections."
Morello said students are "eagerly waiting for more veterans to volunteer."
From left: (front row) Diana Pitman, Veteran and Director of Cumberland County Veteran
Affairs, and Nyla Hill; (back row) Jane Jannarone, Cumberland County Freeholder; Eileen
Leri, guidance counselor; Joe Morello, Social Studies teacher; Mario Olsen, principal, and
Carol DiOrio, Big Brothers/Big Sisters social worker.
Abba Wins Fire
Safety Poster
Contest
Milanesi Elementary
Schools third and fifth
graders participated in the
NJ Division of Fire Safetys
Annual Help Promote Fire
Prevention poster contest.
This years theme is Protect
Your Family from Fire.
Teacher Patricia Manera,
headed the contest at her
school with 140 children par-
ticipating in the contest. The
poster contest starts at the
local level and one winner
will be forwarded to the
county level for judging. Then the winners will move onto the State level for a
chance to win a home computer system.
Alyssa Abba had the winning poster with her illustration of a house fire with
an escape plan and a meeting place for her family.
Buena Vista Fire Marshal Brian Murray spoke to the participants about their
posters and the importance of being prepared for fire emergencies. The poster
contest makes the children more aware of the ways to keep their families safe
including; smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, fire extinguishers in the kitchens
and most of all having an escape plan and meeting place.
Alyssa Abba displays her winning poster, flanked by Brian Murray and Patricia Manera.

web site, which is still accessible through
www.vinelandhistory.org.

Outreach Benefits Bridgeton
Villas Fire Victims
The congregation at Bethany
Presbyterian Church (31 North Pearl Street
in Bridgeton), after learning about a fire
that occurred recently in the Bridgeton
Villas, has coordinated a compassionate
response to this disaster. They are provid-
ing an opportunity to sponsor a child by
donating one unwrapped present. They
have 12 boys ages from 1 1/2 to 11 years old
and 18 girls ages from 2 to 10 years old. The
gifts will need to be turned in (unwrapped)
to the Church by Sunday, December 18.
Also, the Churchs Advent Conspiracy
project is providing quality blankets to resi-
dents in South Jersey Extended Care. They
have donated some of the excess blankets
to those who have been displaced as a
result of the Bridgeton Villas fire and have
set a goal of raising $3,200 for this project.
Visit www.bethanyinbridgeton.com or
call the Church office at 856-451-4601 for
further details.
Colonial Bank FSB Partners
with Local Organizations For
Holiday Food Drives
Colonial Bank FSB has announced holi-
day partnerships with five local organiza-
tions that provide food to those who might
otherwise go hungry this season. To sup-
port these organizations, the bank is host-

will run through the end of the year.
Ed Geletka, president of Colonial Bank
FSB, said each of the organizations reach
different segments of southern New Jersey,
thereby ensuring that the bank helps those
in need. We chose to partner with these
organizations because we know about the
good work they do in the community,
Geletka said.
This year, Colonial Bank FSB will sup-
port the efforts of the United Methodist
Church of Mantua, St. Andrews Episcopal
Church, the Soup Kitchen of Vineland, and
the Salvation Army in both Vineland/
Millville and Bridgeton. To help these
organizations, community members can
donate non-perishable canned or dry goods
at any of Colonials nine branches located
throughout southern New Jersey.

rank Capras 1946 film classic
Its A Wonderful Life has consis-
tently been a staple of holiday
television broadcasting, but this
year Vinelanders will have a rare oppor-
tunity to experience the film on the big
screen when it is presented at the Landis
Theater Thursday evening at 7:30.
Its a Wonderful Life has its share of
parallels with the Charles Dickens classic
A Christmas Carol. Both stories feature
other-worldly guides who conduct a tour
with the protagonist who earns a second
chance in life to appreciate the family and
friends that surround him. But whereas
Dickenss Scrooge is convinced he should
change after witnessing his past, present
and future, George Bailey of Its a
Wonderful Life reaches his epiphany by
experiencing what life would be like in
Bedford Falls if he were never born.
Capras adaptation of Philip Van Doren
Sterns short story The Greatest Gift
accentuates the American pioneering
spirit of the Bailey character whose
wilderness and challenges lie not in the
Western plains, but in his hometown of
Bedford Falls. He is rendered as a sort of
amalgam of early 20th century American
literary figures ranging from Steinbecks
Tom Joad to Hemingways Nick Adams,
each of whom, although less refined than
Bailey, must shoulder the weight of politi-
cal and familial challenges into adult life.
And theres no one better to play this role
than the American Everyman of that
motion picture era, James Stewart.
Rumor has it that Henry Fonda was
Capras first choice for the character of
George Bailey. If thats the case, then
audiences can probably be thankful
Fonda didnt sign on with the project. Its
rather difficult to imagine anyone playing
the role other than Stewart, who was
always better than Fonda at eliciting
audience sympathy in roles that walked
the edge of darkness. Just compare
Stewarts portrayal of the obsessed ex-
policeman in Vertigo and Fondas falsely
accused protagonist in The Wrong Man,
both Alfred Hitchcock films. Its Stewart
who more effectively wins an audiences
allegiance. Even when portraying psycho-
logically shattered or obsessed characters
in the handful of Hitchcock films and in
the exceptional series of 1950s Westerns
he made with director Anthony Mann, he
could always find favor with a movie
crowd. And thats exactly what he does in
Its a Wonderful Life.
The meticulous care and detail Capra
bestows upon the first half of the film is
highly rewarding. He not only weaves a
thorough exposition, but allows the audi-
ence to become more than acquainted
with the various sites and townsfolk so
that we soon feel like honorary residents
of Bedford Falls.
By the time we are plunged into the
nightmarish Bailey-less town, we, too, feel
the loss and failure of this alternate reality
as much as the protagonist.
The supporting cast includes Lionel
Barrymore as Henry Potter, Baileys
nemesis, Thomas Mitchell as the well-
meaning Uncle Billy and Donna Reed as
Baileys wife, Mary. The actress might be
most remembered for this role, yet
according to online sources, she was not
the first choice for the part. Jean Arthur,
Ginger Rogers and Olivia de Havilland
were all higher on the casting list, but due
to a lack of interest or prior commitments
on their part, Reed landed the role. Of
course, her 1953 Academy Award-winning
turn as Lorene, Montgomery Clifts love
interest in Fred Zinnemanns From Here
to Eternity, remains her most critically
acclaimed portrayal.
Its a Wonderful Life was honored with
five Academy Award nominations, includ-
ing Best Picture and Actor, but it unfortu-
nately ran up against tough competition
with William Wylers The Best Years of
Our Lives. A fictional account of three
military veterans adapting to life back
home after World War II, Wylers master-
work deservingly earned most of the
Academy Awards that year. Today Its a
Wonderful Life has found a place on the
American Film Institutes Top 100 films
and the number one slot of the AFIs most
inspirational movies.
This year theres no excuse to settle for
a television broadcast of Its a Wonderful
Life, interrupted by commercials and
quite possibly edited for time constraints.
Consider it an early Christmas gift and see
it as it should be seenin a movie theater
from the Golden Age of Cinema. I

SANDWICH OF THE YEAR CONTEST
Have a knack for making great sandwiches? Everyonewhether they are
an amateur or professionalis invited to put their talent to the test by enter-
ing their best sandwich recipe in the first Sandwich of the Year contest,
sponsored by Landis MarketPlace.
We want people to be creative and come up with their own original sand-
wich ideas, said Lurie Luciano, owner of Lucianos FreshMarket and one of
the coordinators of the contest, said. Whether you are a Vinelander, a for-
mer Vinelander, or a visitor, we want you to show us your best.

off or mailing them to Landis MarketPlace, 631 E. Landis Avenue, Vineland,

entrants name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address, as well as
why that sandwich represents Vineland best.

s 2011 quickly comes to an end,
I thought this would be a good
time to review some of this
years lesser-known accom-
plishments in downtown Vineland.
Regular readers of this column know
that I often share the achievements of our
volunteers and all that they do for the
revitalization of Landis Avenue. This year
saw those volunteers do so many things:
pick up litter, plant flowers, plan and exe-
cute fundraisers, set up tables and chairs
for festivals (then break them down
again), sort and organize news clippings
from the past decade, help paint a mural,
send out mailings, take pictures at special
events, and dozens of other tasks that
make a real difference. As of this writing,
our volunteers have donated nearly 2,500
hours of their time this yearrepresent-
ing over $45,000 in donated labor
towards making downtown Vineland a
great place to shop, work, live, dine and
be entertained.
There is no doubt that these remain
difficult economic times for many people
and businesses; however, there was a net
of more than 50 jobs created in downtown
Vineland this year. Small business has
always been the backbone of the
American economy, so Im hopeful that
this statistic is foreshadowing an econom-
ic turnaround in 2012.
Similarly, there has been a considerable
amount of investment in the downtown
during this past year. All told, more than
$5.7 million in private and public funds
were reinvested in Landis Avenue, demon-
strating that people continue to believe in
downtown Vineland.
No look back on 2011 would be com-
plete without acknowledging the many
special events that Main Street Vineland
and our volunteers organize each year.
In June, the annual Cruise Down
Memory Lane returned to Vineland and
caused thousands of people to fondly recall
the days when cars had muscles and
chrome was king. The following month we
held the popular Seafood Festival, which
was generously sponsored by Century
Bank. We took a small break in August but
came back in September with the Fifth
Annual BBQ-n-Chili Cook-off, sponsored
by our friends at Susquehanna Bank and
Comcast. Our first Taste of Vineland
fundraiser and our yearly Soap Box Derby
(presented by Ace Plumbing, Heating and
Electrical Supplies) were held in October,
with the generations-old Holiday Parade
(which was also sponsored by Susquehanna
Bank) taking place in November.
All of these events take months of plan-
ning and preparation to execute, and their
success is measured by attendance. In
2011, more than 30,000 people came to
downtown Vineland to experience these
terrific family events.
In the weeks ahead, I will be sharing
with you some of the specific accom-
plishments of each of our four standing
committees.
***
With the year coming to an end, some
people often look to make charitable
donations in advance of filing their yearly
tax returns. If you are such a person,
please keep Main Street Vineland in
mind. We are an IRS-registered 501(c)(3)
organization, so any donations you make
to us may be tax-deductible. Your gen-
erosity goes directly towards funding
projects that help make downtown
Vineland a great place. I

A Pet for Christmas?
The Cumberland County SPCA shelter
is full of homeless animals in need of
homes. They also have many animals in
foster care awaiting their chance to be
adopted. One of the best things about
Christmas is finding the purr-fect gift for
your loved ones and what could be better
than saving the life of well deserving ani-
mal in the process?
Santas CCSPCA Elves will be spread-
ing the joy of the season by delivering
adopted pets to their new families on
Christmas morning! Call the shelter at

Children Get a Chance to Learn
About Agriculture, Animals
The majority of children living in New
Jersey today are growing up in the suburbs,
but 4-Hstill offers a special opportunity to
connect with the States agricultural her-
itage through the animal science program.
Youth can learn about all aspects of raising
animalshowto care for, feed, breed and
select animals for show, market or pleasure.
Through the 4-Hanimal science program,
children have the opportunity to learn
about horses, dairy and beef cattle, sheep,
pigs and other farmanimals to which they
otherwise might not have access.
The goal of the animal science program
is the same as that for all 4-H programs: to
teach children important life skills through
hands-on learning. While learning about
their animal of choice, children in the ani-
mal science clubs gain a sense of responsi-
bility, learn how to keep accurate records,
gain self-confidence, discover potential
careers, learn to present themselves in
public and at the same time have a lot of
fun.
In addition to animal science clubs,
events such as the Hippology, Horse Bowl
and even model horse shows allowchildren
who do not own a horse to learn more about
them. These 4-Hevents are becoming more
popular as farmland continues to decrease
in New Jersey. But, regardless of what kind
of 4-H club a child belongs to, the theme is
the sameto make learning fun.
If you would like more information on
the 4-H animal science program or other 4-
H clubs, contact the Cumberland County 4-
H Office at 451-2800.

A Gardeners Checklist for
December
Select a live or cut Christmas tree
while the selection is good. Keep the tree
outdoors until it is time to decorate it.
Keep poinsettias out of cold drafts
and away from heat sources. Place them
where they will get as much light as pos-
sible.
Popcorn and cranberry garlands are
easy to make.
Cover or move indoors any stone stat-
uary to prevent frost cracks.
Protect furniture from the sap of
fresh, needled evergreen boughs when
decorating for the holidays.
Dont let dried evergreen decorations
become a fire hazard.
Trim an outdoor evergreen tree with
treats for wildlife.
If youre considering the native
American holly for your landscape, be
advised that it will grow to 40-50 feet in
height with a spread of 18-40 feet.
Salt used to melt ice on sidewalks and
driveways can damage plants and lawns.
Begin planning your garden as the
seed catalogs arrive in the mail. Try a few
new plants next year.
Evaluate your landscape. Plan to fill
in gaps with appropriate plants in the
spring.
Gather holiday greens from your
landscape but prune carefully. Spray the
greens with an antidesiccant to retard
water loss.
After the ground freezes, mulch
shrubs and perennials with straw, pine
needles, or branches of the discarded
Christmas tree to prevent heaving of the
plants during periods of freezing and
thawing.
Rake up any leaves remaining on the
lawn.
Avoid walking on the lawn once the
ground has frozen.
Begin bringing in some bulbs potted
for forcing. Put them in a cool location
with bright light.
Plant your live Christmas tree as soon
as possible after Christmas.
Feed the birds.
Rotate houseplants to achieve even
growth.
Keep succulents and cacti on the dry
side.
Do not feed houseplants during the
winter months and reduce the watering.
Raise the humidity for your house-
plants by grouping them together.
Water houseplants with warm water.
Keep your Christmas tree stand filled with
water.
Relax with a good gardening book.
Plants make nice holiday gifts.
Have a nice December!

LoBiondo: Sweep Away EPA's "Farm Dust"Regulations
U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) last week voted for leg-
islation to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from finaliz-
ing regulations that would fine farms and other businesses in rural areas
for creating and spreading farm dust.
The idea that a Washington bureaucrat is going to chase a South
Jersey farmer on their tractor and write them a ticket for creating dust is
beyond idiotic, slammed LoBiondo. Ive long supported efforts to protect
and improve public health, but when you work and live on a farm, you
know there is going to be dust in the air. Thats reality. The fact that
Congress needs to tell the EPA not to move forward with this absurd regu-
lation demonstrates how out-of-touch the Obama Administration is with
the real world.
Federal regulations on dust were last reviewed by the EPA in 2006. At
that time the EPA proposed an exclusion for certain rural dust. However,
the final rules failed to include it, thus maintaining the EPAs authority to
enforce nuisance dust provisions under the Clean Air Act. Congressional
action is to ensure the EPA does not take such action.
H.R. 1633, the Farm Dust Regulation Prevention Act of 2011, would
define "nuisance dust (aka farm dust) as airborne matter generated
from natural sources, unpaved roads, agricultural activities, earth moving,
or other activities typically conducted in rural areas; or consisting primari-
ly of soil, other natural or biological materials, windblown dust, or some
combination thereof. The legislation approved by the House today pro-
hibits the EPA Administrator from proposing, finalizing, implementing, or
enforcing any regulation revising air quality standards for nuisance dust
under the Clean Air Act.
After a 267 to 150 vote, the legislation now moves to the Senate for
consideration.

Amish Goodness
Nothing says from the heart like homemade
jams, preserves, and baked goods direct from
the Amish country in Lancacater, PA. And this
year, Cumberland County residents need not
make the trek to Pennsylvania. All they have to
do is visit Landis MarketPlace on Landis Avenue
in Vineland. At CK Nut and Candy, for example,
youll find preserved jams and pickles (below),
as well as bulk nuts and candies. At J&R
Bakery, there are cookie mixes, soup mixes,
recipe books, and a whole host of baked goods.
But dont stop there; browsing the entire lower
level of the market is part of the fun. Especially
when you know you wont have a long drive
home. You might even have enough energy to
wrap em all up when you get home!

Dear Santa,
This is me (to the left) and my sister sit-
ting with you at Macys in NYC. This
Christmas, I would like prayers for all the
troops that cant be with their families this
season. My cousin Katilyn Coulter is serv-
ing the country in the Air Force, but she
gets to come home. Some military people
arent that lucky, so I would like everyone
to pray for our troops. Some surprises
under the tree would be nice, too. My sis-
ter and I have been fairly good this year!
Thank You,
Jenna Gardner
Dear Santa,
My name is
Jaidyn. I am six
years old. I tried
to be good all
year. Please can
I have a Polly
Air Plane?
Thanks,
Jaidyn
Dear Santa,
I know youre busy, so I want to make
this quick. Thank you for all the presents
you gave me with your elves work. I also
hope you liked the cookies I made. What
Im trying to say is, you dont need to
come to my house since I already have
what I need: Family and friends. Bye
Santa!
Love,
Bradley Garcia
Dear Santa,
My name is Hailey and I am 2 and a half
years old. I have been a very good girl this year.
I would like a dolly for Christmas and some
treats for my doggies Houdini and Zoe. I will
have cookies and milk with a great big straw
waiting for you.
Love, Hailey
Dear Santa,
Please bring me an Xbox 360, legos,
games, and a Cowboys jacket. What do
you want me to get for you? Merry
Christmas!

Dear Santa,
I was thinking about my Christmas list and I
just wanted to tell you a few things that I
would like. First, I would love to have a
Lalaloopsy Crazy Hair Doll, a Calico
Critters play set, the Monster High Slumber
Party, a Victorious doll, a toy for my dog
Rosie, a laptop, a cell phone, a ton of BACON
and PEACE ON EARTH!!
Merry Christmas! Love, Abby Heer
Dear Santa,
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
There are a few things
I would like to ask from YOU!
A HORSE would really make my day,
But I have something else to say,
It could be a Quarter Horse or a Paint,
If you could get either, that would be great!
It must be a gelding, which is a boy,
Around 14 hands would bring me much Joy!
I'm not really picky about the color,
But it must have good manners,
said my Mother!
This could be my only present
for many years to come,
I have been very good and
really really deserve one!
Merry Christmas!
Love, Brooke Heer
