27 March 2007 - by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev the National space agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazcosmos) was formed on the basis of the Aerospace committee of the Ministry of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The National Hero of the Republic of Kazakhstan, The Hero of the Russian Federation, the Cosmonaut-pilot, the Lieutenant-General of aviation Talgat Mussabayev was appointed as Chairman of the Agency.
