off the back of their recent world JOf Evil Live features a selection of tour. The new album, A Touch killer Priest songs which,

A TOUCH OF EVIL...

UDAS PRIEST have unleashed their fifth live album

while not their most well known material, are powerhouses of Heavy Metal. Heres the word from Priest themselves...

In Bogota due to fan frenzy we had to pile into the back of police paddy wagons with a police motorcycle escort for safety leaving the festival site after the show. Your forthcoming tour in the US is to celebrate the 30th anniversary of British Steel,

How did you decide on the final tracklisting for this live album? We wanted to release songs that we had never done live on an album and feel that these tracks show an amazing display of Priests power and energy. Destiny seems to have handed the cards out with an ultra heavy song list that gives the fans and the Priest a killer moment! How does this album sit alongside Unleashed In The East and Priest Live as a body of your live recordings spanning almost 30 years? All live albums are important as they create a time line foundation for any bands existence. This one sits nicely in sequence with all our live albums so far. What was a major highlight for you on the last world tour? For each of us it would probably be something different but overall as a band it was our first ever show in Bogota Colombia - our fans had waited since

Priest came to be and gave us a heros welcome! Did anything unusual happen?

do you have plans to tour this worldwide? Right now we are focusing on the second USA leg and some shows in Japan. We can see from the internet that our fans all over the world want an ear and eye full of steel. Stay tuned on our official web site for plans and details! You have mentioned plans to perform Nostradamus as one-off spectaculars, how close is this to becoming a reality? Nostradamus is very important to us all in Priest - the show we want to make is going to be incredible and to be incredible takes time for the stage production to happen so bear with us - when it happens we promise it will be well worth the wait! g

STRYPER Murder By Pride 2009 Frontiers / Riot Christian Metals biggest and best are back with a highly melodic album. These guys still arent afraid to pack on 80s cheese and glam in the name of the Lord! Sounds like Holy Bon Jovi. Brendon Williams - mmmmL THE 69 EYES Back In Blood 2009 Nuclear Blast / Riot Goth N Roll never felt so good! Well Rock You To Hell And Back Again 2009 Frontiers / Riot If you ever ask yourself why there are never any albums released with that genuine 80s Hard Rock sound, you havent heard this! HEAvEN & HELL The Devil You Know 2009 Roadrunner Evil Doom Metal with Ronnie Dio on vocals. The long-awaited album doesnt disappoint. More proof that you dont have to be fast and brutal to be REALLY HEAVY! Max Thrasher - mmmmL BLUT AUS NORD Memoria vetusta II: Dialogue with the Stars 2009 Candlelight Atmospheric Black Metal, really pushing the sound. Very cold and complex, entwining a dozen different melodies into one song. I really struggle to compare them with anyone. For fans of True Black Metal who want to hear something different. All three of them. Max Thrasher - mmmmL CONTRACRASH Goddamn Planet 2009 Contracrash/Sony What started off as quite an interesting mix of Dream Theater with modern metal sound, turned very boring very quickly. I got a feeling it has potential with the new generation of Metal fans. Gotta hate the screamo vocals though ruined it for me. Max Thrasher - mmmLL SKYCLAD In the... All Together 2009 Scarlet One of the most unique Heavy Metal bands ever. Unfortunately with the departure of the original vocalist Martin Walkyier a huge part of the sound went missing. Brilliant as always, but also quite nostalgic. Time to bury the hatchet, I reckon! Max Thrasher - mmmmL

LEAvES EYES Njord 2009 Napalm Records Vocalist Liv Kristine displays her beautiful voice once again in the new Leaves Eyes album. making and the end result was gold. Border Music were really on board with distributing it from the get go too. They consulted us on the retail price and made us feel like they were going to be true to their word in regards to stocking it in shops. So three thumbs up to them. Its good when a local metal band can really put out a proper album with the full fold out booklet, actual CDs (not CD-Rs) and all the trimmings. We put a poster on the inside of the CD cover as well, just to make it worth picking up. Weve signed plenty already at shows. How did you go about writing the lyrics for these songs? Well spotted! Yes, all of the songs on this album have lyrics! On the last album we made up some grunts and growls where we lacked lyrics so we took a

more serious approach this time. Dont get me wrong though, I still like improvising when I cant remember the words! I wrote my lines, Vaughn wrote his, Kezz wrote his. As long as it was all relatively in the same vein it didnt matter who wrote what. And I think they came out great because I can see the whole band singing along to them as well. We know each others lyrics. Weird. You guys are opening for Cannibal Corpse in Christchurch on September 8. Are you planning anything special for your set? Yeah, but thatd be telling BEFORE the show and would spoil it so sorry buddy, Im not spilling a thing! I can say though, that well be debuting two new songs Dawn Of The Braindead and Eyesockets In My Pockets. You also have a new website up at www. human-metal.com which is looking awesome. How did you put it together?

Id had the inclination to change it when I knew the album was going to be released nationwide. The way it was beforehand was basically set up for the tour we did in May earlier this year. I realized that Id spent so much time concentrating on the MySpace and Facebook pages that HUMAN has and Nik (our drummer) suggested we maintain the .com one we already had. It was honestly set up in one day. Ive always liked doing the graphic side of things for the band anyway so thats why it was done so quick, and it looks pretty killer to me too. Bands should have their own official sites in case their MySpace and / or Facebook sites become suddenly... gay How did your most recent tour go? Any particularly interesting moments? We taped alot of the tour; each set, all the bullshit talking and funny moments. When we make a DVD well put it all on there for you to yawn at! Actually, most of its quite entertaining - Im just hard to please. Lets see... Our roadie Marcus lost his

long years since their last album, so when we heard about the release of the bands new album Cadaver Academy we though wed get the lowdown from the undead decapitators themselves. How has your latest album Cadaver Academy been received so far? It is getting some great distribution for a local Metal release... So far as I know its been received really well! We sold a few on tour in May earlier this year, and Ive been noticing our site hits rising so its a clear indicator that the disc is selling well. And I should hope so because it was a long time in the

HMetal scene since 1992. It has been 5

UMAN have been zombifying the local

fathers fork in a Timaru motel on the first date of the album release tour. And Im not kidding when I tell you that we had to hear ALL about it for a few days until we passed back through Timaru and had to ask the motel owners to go through their cutlery draws in order for us to get it back. Hes since had it engraved with the tour dates!!! All true man, no word of a lie. Playing Palmerston North was an exercise in slow torture. I learned that the venue owner who always answers his phone or email is generally the one to work with. If they dont make time for you, they wont give you time to do anything when you bowl into town to play - which was the case here. However, Dunedin was awesome, Timaru also had a great turnout, Wellington is ALWAYS a good time for us - like a second home to me - and playing Auckland was a step ahead on how weve gone in past shows there. The maniacs in attendance were worth the trip and I hope we see them again at the next show. And we saw plenty of HUMAN shirts at Audience With The Devil and Morbid Angel a couple of weeks after so thats a good sign were making inroads to better things up there. Whats Human? next for

By then the album will be well and truly doing the rounds so the turnouts should be the biggest weve seen in quite some time. I hope we can catch a few Slaughterama readers at some of the shows! Thanks for the interview. Anything else youd like to mention? Yep. Thanks to you and Max for all the support youve shown HUMAN over the last few years. You guys are helping out the scene in a big way and from our point of view its something thats worth stating in an interview so everybody knows it. Well done, long may it continue lads. Scott out ;) g

Metallica The Club Dayz 1982 - 1984

I should say talking less in interviews. Weve got an abridged tour of NZ were dubbing Horrorween in late October this year. The dates are: Thursday, October 29th Als Bar, CHRISTCHURCH Friday, October 30th -

Tcampaign to become Heavy Metal giants. Featuring plenty of candid shots of the

his glossy photobook shows a young and hungry Metallica as they begin their

band (mainly prior to Dave Mustaines departure) we are shown the development of the Bay Area thrashers through the lens of photographer Bill Hale, who was working for Metal Rendezvous International at the time. For Metallica and Megadeth fans the book is absolutely essential. For anyone else, its still well worth a look, and a great addition for the coffee table. Forget about Metallica as they are now and relive the early days when the thrash metal maniacs lived fast and played their music even faster! mmmmL

LICE COOPER is the pioneer of Shock Rock. He has been around for over 4 decades, influencing an endless line of bands, artists and golfers. Last time we saw Alice in New Zealand was at the ROCK2WGTN festival in 2008. Now he is back, bringing his Theatre of Death tour for one sold-out show at Aucklands Aotea Centre. Alice Cooper speaks exclusively with Slaughterama about the concert.
Lets start with your new show... will it be different from your performance at ROCK2WGTN?

Totally! We took about 10 hours a day for a month just rehearsing this thing. We put a whole new 28-song list together, which actually works on the level that the lyrics of the songs are telling the story. Its in four parts and they kill Alice four times in this show! They hang me, they cut my head off, they put a giant hypodermic needle through me you know, in true Alice fashion. Its four times what you normally get in an Alice Cooper show. But I like to put shows on that people will talk about, you know; go to school the next day and go You are not gonna believe what I saw last night! Weve got some people who might not be able to make it to the Auckland show. Are you only able to fit one New Zealand show into your schedule? Yeah. Were doing I think 7 shows in Australia, but we havent been to Auckland

this straight-ahead rocknroll sound. Are you planning to come back to the Heavy Metal Alice Cooper? To me, in all honesty, its such a thin line between Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. I hear people call Guns N Roses Heavy Metal, and theyre not Heavy Metal at all! Heavy Metal to me is Motorhead, Slayer and Metallica. And even Metallica is moving away from Heavy Metal. But we are definitely loud Hard Rock. You know, we dont back down when it comes to music. On the last album [Along Came a Spider; 2008] Ve n g e a n c e is Mine was as Metal as we can ever be. Now, when I did albums like Constrictor, Raise Your Fist and Yell, and Brutal Planet and Dragontown those were definitely pushed to the other side of Hard Rock, into the Metal kind of sound. But I never know what the next albums gonna be until I start writing it. When we did Brutal Planet, to me

it just says HEAVY. Its this futuristic sci-fi stuff, so we gotta make it big and heavy. Albums like Trash and Hey Stoopid w e r e definitive for the end of the 80s /

beginning of the 90s. Have you ever considered working with Desmond Child again? Well, working with Desmond was very interesting, because he was THE sound of the 80s. I mean, he did Aerosmith, he did Bon Jovi, he did Kiss every band that had a hit in the 80s had something to do with Desmond Child. And at the end of the whole thing was when I picked up on Desmond, and I said, Desmond, I love these arrangements and I love what youve done with Bon Jovi and Aerosmith, and those records are great records. I wanna do something like that, but I definitely wanna have Alices darkness to it. And thats where Poison [from Trash; 1989] came from. Poison has all elements of [Desmond Childs] hits, but it also has this sexy dark sound to it. So to answer your question, yeah, I would work

for quite a while, so it will be nice to be in Auckland again. The venue youre playing here is actually quite small, I think it only fits around 2.500 people. Do you prefer playing small theatres like this or large arenas like on ROCK2WGTN? When I wrote this show, I kind of wrote it with theatre in mind. When you go to a theatre it has a certain claustrophobia to it. When you stand there watching the show its four walls and the ceiling around you, and it feels like a pressure cooker in there. About 80% of shows weve done so far were outdoor shows, and when you do do it in a theatre, Ive noticed that all the effects work better in there. So we decided that well do mostly theatres [on this tour], and really let this show breathe, really let it be what it is. There has been a number of massively different sounding albums throughout your career and lately you seem to have settled on

When you go to a theatre it has a certain claustrophobia to it.

Are you kidding? Theres not even a heartbeat between that decision! Youve done quite a few appearances in movies. Are you planning to do any more acting? Actually, theres one coming out in September / October, called SUCK. Its a vampire movie, a comedy that we shot in Toronto. Its myself and Malcolm MacDowell and Calico, my daughter. Its a pretty bloody vampire movie, but its a comedy. I play the head vampire, leader of the pack. (laughs) To wrap this thing up, whats your message to the New Zealand fans who are coming to your show? First of all, if youre in first 20 rows, dont wear nice clothes. This show has a tendency to spill out into the audience a little bit. And I like the first 20 rows to be in the show. I want the audience to be a part of the show and we definitely give them a chance to be a part of the show. A couple more questions for the road. First, on your radio show [Nights with Alice Cooper] a few weeks ago you said that your worst nightmare would be being stuck in an elevator with Blackie Lawless [W.A.S.P.] while Bon Jovi plays on loop. Whats that about? with Desmond again if it was on a project that would work for him. Hes a really good song doctor! (chuckles). Speaking of bands like Kiss, some of those guys moved on to reality Tv, like Gene Simmons, Bret Michaels, Ozzy... So when are we gonna see an Alice Cooper reality Tv show? I would hate that more than anything on the planet! I absolutely hate reality TV. It absolutely irritates me when I go to England and on the front page of an entertainment magazine are two people from Big Brother Ive never heard of before. And one is a big fat girl and the other is a skinny jerk. And theyre like superstars! And Im going Who are these people?! You know, as soon as this show is over, those people are gone! But theyre on the cover of a magazine. And I sat there and I asked my daughter Who is Spencer?! And she said, I have no idea, but hes on the cover of People magazine! To me reality TV is pitiful. So if someone offers you a reality Tv show versus a role of a villain in a James Bond movie, youre gonna go with James Bond? (laughs) You know, all of my friends in this business I think by now are used to my sense of humor. So if I insult you on my show, that means that were friends. People call me up and they go, Hey, have you insulted me lately? and I go Nah, and they say Can you please insult me again? And I say All the people I know get equal amount of insults on my show!

A question from one of your fans, whats the most annoying thing that people do? And do you ever get tired of signing autographs? No! I never get tired of signing autographs! Tell you what: NOBODY knows how to work the camera! I stand there and they go Let me take a picture And then they go Ok, let me see... Now, do I press this button here? Oh... wait a minute... no-nono... ah, couldnt save it! I spend more time standing there waiting for people to learn how to work their camera than it takes me

to sign 20 autographs! So thats the most annoying thing! If you wanna take a picture of somebody, know how to work your camera! We wont take any more of your time, we know you have a busy day. Ok and Ill see you at the show. Will probably meet you backstage! Oh, were not worthy! Youre worthy, youre worthy! (laughs) g

REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA n epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Out of the tragedy, a savior emerges: GeneCo, a biotech company that offers organ transplants, for a price. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession and hunted by villainous Repo Men. Visually, Repo! is a modern masterpiece. However, the music is quite disappointing at times, and feels underproduced instrumentally.. Paris Hilton and Sarah Brightman give decent performances along with the rest of the cast.
