Directive approach
1.All employees are given written job descriptions and their duties are explained. 2.The expectations are explained and the results will be monitored. 3. The manager will sit/ride with each employee/contractor to insure the company rules, regulations and goals are being adhered too.
Supportive approach
1.Explain my background with the company and how I achieved the position I have through hard work. 2.Let them know that I understand the challenges they will face each day, as I have been in their position in the past. 3.Ensure they understand they can come to me with any problem, concern or suggestion as it pertains to their job duty or job performance.
Participative approach
1.Give everyone a handbook & tell them we will go over it after we have a 'get to know you' session. 2.Have a lunch prepared for all the new employees/contractors where we can discuss how I expect each person to offer suggestions they feel will benefit our company as a whole. 3.Offer to involve each person in determining who will deliver what items each morning.
Achievement-oriented approach
1.Explain that each route/task belongs to them. I have confidence in their ability to complete the task with minimal supervision. 2.Ensure each person understand that the performance of one has an effect on the outcome of everyone. It is best to work together to ensure tasks are completed. 3.Show how meeting goals will benefit the company, but also benefit each person with greater financial compensation.
Leadership recommendation
The best approach for this specific business would be the 'Directive approach'. By setting specific guidelines and expectations at the outset, each person will know what will be expected of them on a daily basis. By showing them the techniques that will make the job a success through my riding with each driver or sitting with each employee, I can insure that each person is following the same set of rules and regulations. If everyone knows what is expected from them each day, then there will be no surprises and no chance of anyone claiming ignorance of the job duties and descriptions.
