high efficiency rating combined with low emissions and quiet operation. In both emission versions, the engine produces 290 hp with 1200 Nm of torque between 1050 and 1650 r/min. this provides excellent driveability and high comfort for passengers and drivers alike. The Volvo D7E has been developed for extremely low particulate emissions. In order to also reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides to very low levels, the Euro 4 version of the engine features a system for after-treatment of the exhaust gases known as SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction). With this system, a mixture of urea and water known as AdBlue is sprayed into the hot exhaust gases. When this mixture of AdBlue and exhaust gases passes through the catalytic converter, a chemical reaction takes place that converts the nitrogen oxides into nitrogen gas and water vapour. The technology is both simple and reliable and makes it possible to meet both current and forthcoming emissions requirements without compromising on the engines excellent fuel economy.

Reliable and durable engine. Volvo D7E is a newly developed seven-litre six-cylinder diesel engine. It produces 290 hp, 1200 Nm of torque within a broad rev range and is available in versions for Euro 4 and Euro 3.
Four transmissions. There are four transmissions to choose between, two manual (with six or eight gears) and two automatic (with four, five or six gears). The automatic transmissions feature an integrated retarder as standard, while the manual gearboxes can be specified with a retarder as an option.
Rear axle with choice of several ratios. The rear axle is available in a choice of five different ratios for top speeds from 80 km/h to 120 km/h.
Transmissions
The Volvo B7R range has the option of two manual and two automatic transmissions. Of the manual gearboxes, the 8-speed Volvo EGS-V deserves special mention. The Volvo EGS-V has a short and convenient gear lever, with gearchanges requiring minimal driver effort. Power transmission from the gearbox to the engine takes place via an electropneumatic system. The Volvo EGS-V is installed vertically (V), which offers major benefits as regards operating reliability and service friendliness. Vulnerable components are better protected than before, at the same time as the gearbox is easier to access for maintenance. The Volvo EGS-V can also be equipped with the Volvo VR3250 compact retarder, and in this version it is designated the Volvo EGS-VR.
Volvo VR3250 compact retarder gives you more braking power
The Volvo VR3250 is a compact retarder that gives you access to 400600 kW of braking effect. This increases the scope for maintaining a higher average speed on hilly roads without jeopardizing safety. It also reduces wheel brake wear. The Volvo VR3250 is lightweight (about 100 kg) and together with the manual gearbox, it forms a relatively short unit, which means that the rear overhang can be made short. The Volvo VR3250 responds swiftly. Within just half a second, more than 90 percent of the braking effect is utilised. Maximum braking effect, 600 kW, can be used for about 15 to 20 seconds. As temperature rises, braking power gradually drops to 400 kW but is never lower than this level. The retarder is operated via a control beside the steering wheel. It is possible to operate the retarder manually or to use it together with the brakes by pressing the brake pedal.
Volvo RS1228B the last link in an economical chain
The Volvo RS1228B, the rear axle in the Volvo B7R range, was developed together with the rest of the powertrain. This means that it was designed from the very outset to transmit as much power as possible from the engine and gearbox to the driven wheels, with minimum energy losses. The rear axle is available with a choice of several ratios in the Volvo B7R and with four alternative ratios in the Volvo B7R Low Entry, which makes it possible to tailor the powertrain in detail for optimum fuel consumption for each specific operating condition.

offers equal levels of comfort along with improved roll stability and a tighter turning circle. In addition, it weighs less and it is now also possible to fit the bus with larger tyres. The Volvo B7R uses one of Volvos tried and tested front axle designs.
New EBS improves safety and makes driving easier
The Volvo B7R range is equipped with Volvos electronically controlled braking system, Volvo EBS, which integrates a number of useful features for the driver such as Brake Blending and Hill Start Aid. With Brake Blending, all the braking systems (wheel brakes, engine brake and retarder) can interact for best braking performance and minimum disc brake wear. Hill Start Aid helps the driver start smoothly on hills by maintaining brake power or delaying brake release after the driver takes his foot off the brake pedal until he presses the accelerator. Volvo EBS promotes increased safety and cuts stopping distances. The shorter stopping distance is explained by the fact that in an electronically controlled braking system, the brakes are applied 20-25 percent more quickly than in a pneumatically operated system. With the help of electronics, the system monitors parameters such as acceleration, steering wheel movement and wheel speed. The system can use this information to adjust brake pressure individually on each axle. If the electronic system fails, there is a parallel backup system consisting of two pneumatic circuits. Volvo EBS is offered in a package that includes various other functions. Please contact your Volvo representative for more information.
An effective and ergonomically designed drivers environment
The all-new instruments in the Volvo B7R range are designed to be simple, easy to overview and ergonomically correct. One example is that many controls now move with the steering wheel as it is adjusted. The driver has a good overview of all the instruments and can always find a comfortable driving position.
The brain behind the Volvo B7R range BEA
The Bus Electronic Architecture (BEA) electronic system makes possible many of the new functions that are fitted to the Volvo B7R range, such as EBS. What is more, BEA contributes to more secure communication between the components and increased scope for diagnostics and information about important vehicle data. In addition, there is a considerable improvement in the quality of the connections between the chassis and the bodys electrical system, since fewer connections are needed.
Volvo B7R
The Volvo B7R has a rear-mounted seven-litre engine and normal chassis height. It permits a body with a flat floor and a spacious all-through luggage compartment in the middle of the bus. It is primarily intended for tourist operations or other applications where entry height is not an issue. The Euro 4 version offers the best environmental performance, while the Euro 3 version combines good environmental performance with simple engineering.
