The
4TH ANNUAL GREENSPACE
SafeTree has again joined Greenspace, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and Ralph and Tracy Covell in funding the Fourth Annual Cambria Walk in the Woods. The walk, as in the past, will take place on the Covells Cambria by the Pines Sea Ranch (formerly the Cambria Coast Ranch). As you may remember, Greenspace was honored by TNC at the Cambria Coast Ranch dedication in the fall of 2000. Since TNCs historic purchase of a conservation easement on Cambria Coast Ranch, we have worked closely with the conservation easement holder to develop a method that provides limited public access to the Cambria Coast Ranch while protecting the privacy of the landowner. Most Cambrians or the casual visitors to our area have never had the opportunity to walk on this precious property. Thanks to SafeTree, The Nature Conservancy, the Covells, and Greenspace, we have the opportunity to visit this wonderful property. The number of tours on the ranch is limited to four weekends during the year. The spring walk has been the favorite and we will be offering 8 tours of 20 people. In addition to the knowledge that Richard Hawley and Brad Seek share with the hikers on the tours, Greenspace has arranged additional experts to speak on a number of the tours. The guest speakers will have knowledge in forest genetics, botany, and forest pathology. Greenspace is very fortunate to have developed partnerships with state and international ex-

perts on Monterey pines and looks forward to sharing this good fortune with local residents and with visitors to our community. The tour date that have been agreed upon are: May 1st at 10:00 A.M. May 2nd at 10:00 A.M. May 8th at 10:000 A.M. May 9th at 10:00 A.M. May 15th at 10:00 A.M. May 16th at 10:00 A.M. May 22nd at 10:00 A.M. May 23rd at 10:00 A.M. People wishing to participate must RSVP to Greenspace, as space is limited to twenty people per tour. Each tour will last approximately 2 hours. When you RSVP, the Greenspace staff will let you know where the location of the hike will be and, if driving to the event, where to park. Having a sturdy pair of walking shoes, a water bottle, hat, and sunscreen is strongly suggested. In addition, wearing light colored, layered clothing is considered the prudent attire for the event. If you are interested in joining us on one of these scheduled Cambria Walks in the Woods, please call early (927-2866) or email us at rick@greenspacecambria.org to reserve your spot. We anticipate a high degree of interest in this activity and space will be in demand.
