Parx - the premium readymade casual wear brand from Raymonds Ltd is in a relaunching mode. This Rs.185 crore brand from Raymonds wants to play an aggressive role in the hyper competitive ready-towear category in the Indian market. Parx was launched in 1999 as a premium ready to wear brand targeting the highly mobile young corporate customer. The brand was targeting the users for their after- office hour dress requirements. Despite the backing from one of India's reputed textile brand and perceived high quality & expertise, Parx did not quite make it to the big league. It was dwarfed by the success of brands like Color Plus ( which was later acquired by Raymonds) and Allen Solly. The Indian ready-to-wear market is highly lucrative in terms of market size of approximately Rs 24000 crore. The casual wear market is expected to be around Rs 7200 crore. Despite the fact that Parx belonged to one of the most respected textile houses , the brand did not quite caught the fancy of the consumer. As a consumer, I found the brand very pricey and failed to give any meaningful justification to the pricing either interms of brand or product features. Over a period of time, the brand also failed to keep itself aspirational due to increasing competition from global brands. Parx was also laid-back in its branding efforts. The brand owners was not quite clear about the positioning of Parx. Neither the brand had any meaningful positioning. The brand was neglected by Raymonds and most of the promotional

investment was given to the flagship brand Raymonds and Park Avenue.The brand was perceived to be just another casual wear brand from a reputed manufacturer. This lack of a clear positioning failed the brand to justify its premium pricing. Having said that, Parx has a good fan following in tier II cities. The brand is pushed back in metros and large cities by the competition. The promotions of Parx was also very erratic. I don't remember any work of this brand nor any of its taglines. This lack of proper investment on brand promotion also weakened the brand's position in this highly cluttered market. In 2011, the brand went in for a relaunch. The brand redesigned its logo and also introduced a brand- symbol :- a Racing Stag. This symbol will be in all garments from the brand. The brand also launched its first ever television campaign since its birth. Watch the tvc here; Parx Parx now has a new tagline " Live Easy ". The brand is focusing on building a personality traits of independence, attitude, casualness, freedom through these commercials. The use of foreign models aims to bring an aspirational touch to the brand. The attempt is to brand ladder to the higher attribute of freedom rather than product characteristics. The new effort is commendable but little too late for a brand like Parx. The positioning idea of Live Easy is nothing new and the same theme is used by various brands across categories. The brand lost precious 12 years in creating a space for itself in the Indian consumer's mind. The brand now needs to tell compelling stories of the brand attributes it is trying to tell. It needs a lot of catching up to do.

Parx in search of makeover


The Raymond Apparel brand is trying hard, but creating a strong brand perception wont be easy. Parx, the fastest-growing brand in the Raymond Apparel stable, is launching a new retail format. The initiative is part of Raymonds attempt to reinvigorate the beyond work casual wear brand and make it relevant among youth in urban pockets and metros.

While the brand has been growing close to 40 per cent in the last two years, sales numbers for Parx indicate growth has been coming from mostly multi-brand Raymond stores in Tier 1 and Tier 2 markets. The area where the brand has taken a beating is in the metros, where international brands like Jack and Jones, Tommy Hilfiger and Nautica are challenging Parxs image. Indian brands like Arrow (Arvind Brands), Kruger (S Kumars) and Allen Solly (Madura Fashion and Lifestyle) too have been turning up the heat in the Rs 7,200 crore men's casual ready-to-wear market (overall men's ready to wear is Rs 24,000). Industry experts claim Parx is hardly an aspirational brand today. A major shortcoming for Parx, compared to rivals was that it did not offer a complete wardrobe experience, which means it focused on selling casual shirts and trousers, while others did occasion-wear selling, like club wear or evening wear. So, the product portfolio went through a change a few months back to include styles and fits which are contemporary, like slim fit and muscle fit designs. Besides club wear and sports, the brand wants to have a bigger play in jeans. We will launch an extensive line of Parx jeans early next year, says Shreyas Joshi, president, Raymond Apparel. And Parx is hoping that a refreshed product mix will appeal to youth in the age group of 25-35 years. To create a distinctive identity, a few months ago, the brand unveiled a new symbol the racing stag, which will feature on all garments. This is a strategy adopted by brands like Ralph Lauren (uses horse) and Abercrombie and Fitch (uses deer) in the US, where symbols alone drive brand appeal. The upcoming stores in Mumbai, Pune and Chandigarh will be image drivers for the brand. Designed like a home, the foyer and hallway will display core offerings like shirts and trousers, the den will showcase club wear, and the lounge will house denims, says Sanjay Agarwal, founder, Future Research Design Company. Product display and merchandising will receive greater attention. Raymond is spending Rs 2500-3000 per square feet on the new design. The existing 22 exclusive brand outlets (EBOs) will gradually be transformed to the new design. To enhance the retail experience, the brand is placing tweet mirrors in the fitting room, which will allow consumers to share images with friends and family while trying on an outfit. Experts say this will add up as a clever way for the Parx brand to build its database of customers. The focus on exclusive brand outlets (EBOs) will allow Parx to reduce its dependence on sales through multi-brand Raymond stores. For the Rs 185 crore brand (third largest in the Raymond Apparel portfolio, after Park Avenue and ColorPlus), EBOs bring in only 10 percent of sales, while multi-brand outlets and Raymond stores bring in 30 percent and 60 percent respectively. With the new strategy, Joshi aims to change this. The brand wants to increase the footprint of its EBOs which currently dominates the NCR (national capital region), to the Western region. Retail experience apart, the company is also counting on communication to give the brand image a makeover. This is the first time we are launching a television commercial for Parx, says an excited Joshi. Yet industry observers point out creating a strong brand perception is not going to be easy. As the head of an apparel brand who does not wish to be named explains, Building a brand identity is not just about a new retail design or communication. It requires a complete retail eco-system which includes a sharply differentiated product and a retail culture, rather than a textile mill mindset.

Raymond to relaunch Parx, hires designer

Textile major Raymond, as part of its expansion plans, is relaunching its mens casualwear brand Parx by refurbishing and modernising the brand image.
The company has roped in Hong Kong-based designer, Katie Padget, who has designed for brands such as Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo, etc to give a new international look to Parx in terms of new cuts, designs and colours.

The company is also changing the logo of the brand. The Parx brand was launched just one and a half years ago. Katie Padget said, "We are redesigning the entire Parx brand in terms of new designs, fabrics, colours. We are also expanding the product portfolio by introducing, printed shirts, shorts and denim jackets." Parx will be a total wardrobe solution for men, she added. According to industry sources, Parx has lost some sheen as compared to other brands such as Peter England. However, company officials do not agree with the industry perception but agree that it does not have a direction in terms of a fashion statement. The Rs 75 crore Parx brand is sold through 25 exclusive retail outlets, besides selling at multi-brand outlets. The company exports Parx range to Middle East, Sri Lanka and Nepal too. The company has recently launched an exclusive designerwear pret line under the brand name of 'Be:'. With this launch, which also marks the entry of Raymond into the women's ready-to-wear segment, a new unexplored market. For the pret collection, Raymond has brought under its umbrella 8 fashion designers that includes Raghavendra Rathod, Ashish Soni, Rajesh Pratap Singh and so on. A couple of months back, the Vijaypat Singhania group has changed the name of its wholly owned subsidiary JK Bombay to Raymond Apparel. The arm is also the legal owners of the brand. Apart from Parx, Raymond Apparel's portfolio includes Park Avenue formal menswear, Manzoni, a premium range of shirts, ties and suits, and Parx casual.

Parx is a Raymond, what more do you want to start with. The iconic status of Raymond in itself is a solid foundation for Parx, however with great expectations come graet responsibilities. Peronally, they are doing good, its not easy to come out of the shadows of such a great parent family, and they are slowly establishing their own, and yes I would agree that they are doing the right thing by not trying to be everybody in their target segment. There is so much diversity and variety and range in every clothing segment these days that unless you have a cult following which goes 100 years back, people are not going to notice you, unless you target a niche or a unique segment. Even then there are no less competitors who are braething down your neck. So its not that you have to be different, but you have to be different in the way that differs in the way that matters and is also percivevd as different by the target segment, so many brands fail because they feel they are different but the target segment feels that the differfort, that is where I like ence or the gap they rae trying to create between themselves and others is actually for the SAKE of it and not a genuine and creative effort, Thats where I like Parx, and may be its because of the support/backing it has got in terms of Raymond, they are a sustained effort and have still not given up the nuance or shade of freshness that they started with, Sometimes you just have to give it a sustained full fledged go to get a return. And slowly I believe the Indian mass is realizing that the quality of cloth, stich etc matters and more and more are returning back now. That is where I believe Parx has a greater opportunity and MORE stress should bee laid on Raymond's name in all its advertisements to extract the values long brewed by the iconic name. Parx, the name which belongs to the Raymond ltd company is undoubtedly flaunting its 'Brand status'. Parx as claims, lives up to the satisfaction. It's tagline "Live Easy" is indeed because it provides clothing range to its customer, by wearing of which Living can indeed be easy and ultra comfortable. Parx has variety of ranges in its wear. I feel this attribute of Parx make that golden shine difference. Among the clothing collection that Parx possess to its name, like sports wear, urban wear,excursion wear and club wear, I really like the club wear the most. They are elegant and stylish. I am a huge fan of the Formal jackets from Parx though they are a little pricey i feel. The contemporary semi formal collection is something really impressive and I prefer them for a change. T-shirts and jeans are also very comfortable, giving me a

satisfied and royal look. The lycra-mix-cotton shirts in pastel colors are reasonably priced and thus are must-buys and so are the interesting belts . Satin and tussar shirts with embroidery come in good color combinations. Overall the brand Parx is Excellent. Parx is a Raymond, what more do you want to start with. Parx is one of the most prestigious clothing brand by Raymonds. It famous for casual wear and available in all places, because of their differentiated style and designs. It is best for party wear. 2 years back, my husband bought one parx semi formal wear , now it looks like a newly bought semiformal wear.It never get faded after several washes and looks good.I like the collections of PARX very much. Always Raymond dresses are looking nice to see and it gives majestic look to the person who wears Raymond collections. It is well suited for the persons who are looking for dressing up for life across occasions ant special events. They are providing high standard of service to their customers. Once we shopped Parx in Raymonds collections, we never go for any other shop. It gives unique shopping experience to their customers. Most of the mens are attracted by the uniqueness , design and style of Parx. They are concentrating on meeting International standards, by their quality. The promotional offers are provided by Raymonds after we bought collections from them. Texture of the dresses are very nice and it gives gentle look. The collections are little bit costlier when compared to colorplus brand by raymonds. But it is worth for its money. We can walk proudly by wearing Parx. It shows the attributes of the new generation. I never find best casual wear brand than Parx. It is one of the best evergreen party wear. Wear Raymond collections always and walk gently and proudly. Parx - 'Live easy' goes as per its caption.Its a casual lifestyle brand .It provides dressing for all types of occasions and events.These days clothing reflects people's attitude and parx provides it.Parx has been providing the quality clothing since its inception in 1999 and since then it has refined as the best clothing brand.It provides quality clothing.First it began with park Avenue and the growing demand for smart casuals lead to Parx. So it provides all varieties of clothing from formal wear to party wear and for all purposes like wedding, functions etc. Raymond is

the brand my whole family is used to.Parx a subset of this brand surely is our favorite when it comes to casuals.The brand does less advertisement which is because the quality speaks for itself not the advertisements.Proper fit and comfort at the same time and you get the feeling that the dress was made for you what more you need.Its a bit expensive but for the quality it gives it is worth buying.I brought two Parx shirts for interview purpose that made me look professional and of-course i got through the interview.Coming to the availability the brand it is wide spread and available in almost all major cities at all big shopping malls. Raymonds Clothing is a name which I have been listening to since my childhood days. My school uniform was always stitched using Raymonds clothing and the same goes with my College uniform as well. The primary reason for choosing Raymonds clothing at that time was because my School and then College both provide us the shade cards or shade numbers which were available in Raymonds. But during the course of time, I have developed a liking towards this brand. I, myself and my parents were very much satisfied with the quality and comfort for this clothing. I still remember, I always wanted to wear a raymond's shirt and trouser while going for a job interview. I walked in to a store and they offered me a Parx shirt. They told me this brand is owned by Raymond therefore Parx shirt promises the same quality of comfort and durability while maintaining its shine. I immeditely bought a Parx shirt from that store and have also bought 3-4 shirts after that. I too rememeber, my father always selected a Raymonds Suite length whenever he wanted to have a new suit, this is ofcourse because of the performance, texture and quality of the Raymonds product. I wish Raymonds good luck and will hope they will continue to provide us different options maintaining the Rich look of their fabrics and which keeping the prices competitive.
