Healthy WINers
December 1 was World AIDS Day:
Nearly 1.2 million people are living with HIV in the U.S. and one in five of those are unaware of their infections. Among racial/ethnic groups, African Americans face the most severe burden of HIV and AIDS in the nation: The HIV incidence rate for black women is 15 times as high as that of white women, and more than three times that of Hispanic women. The rate of new HIV infections among Hispanic women is more than four times that of white women. The Kaiser Family Foundation has updated resources on the HIV/ AIDS epidemic both globally and domestically. These resources include several fact sheets, an interactive timeline, of HIV/AIDS milestones and an updated tutorial on the current state of the global AIDS epidemic.
