Before proceeding with installation, remove the plastic protective film from the display window of the front panel. Please record your machines serial number here for future reference:
INTRODUCTION
General Precautions
Power Source
Attach the CL-2500 SSP to an AC power source only of the type and voltage described in these operating instructions or as marked on the rear panel of the unit. touching the CL-2500 SSP faceplate controls, or use the remote control as much as possible if strong static conditions are present in your listening environment. Even unfelt static discharges can affect the CL-2500 SSPs internal microprocessors. If you suspect that static may have discharged to the faceplate, turn the CL-2500 SSP off, unplug its AC cord from the rear of the player or outlet, and allow to remain off and unplugged for one minute to completely clear and discharge. Re-plug the AC cord and turn the unit back on. Normal function should resume thereafter.
AC Cord Wall-End
The CL-2500 SSP is equipped with a polarized, 3-pin AC power plug that will fit into the AC outlet only one way. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, do not defeat the directional plug by breaking off its rounded ground pin. Instead, use a three-hole female to two-prong male adapter obtainable in any hardware or electronics store. Be sure to utilize the adapter plugs ground ring, and fasten it to the outlets cover plate attachment screw. The CL-2500 SSP is designed to be operated in a grounded state; that is, connected by its three-wire, three-prong AC cord to your households AC earth ground. Defeating this ground connection may impact performance and possibly render the allmetal unit more vulnerable to static discharge shock from the users hand. If the units connection to ground is defeated by necessity, i.e., grounded outlets are not present in household, requiring use of two-pin adapter or two-prong cord: TAKE CAUTION to discharge accumulated static from hand/body to some other inert metal object prior to
Non-Use Periods
When left unused for a long period of time, the unit should be disconnected from household AC. It is recommended that the CL-2500 SSP be plugged into a UL (or similar) compliant surge and spike protection device, preferably of high quality with separate isolated ground paths. CAUTION: Do not entrust the CL-2500 SSP nor any system components to protective devices when environmental conditions or public utility problems exist or are suspected. Occasionally, lightning, brownouts, and extreme spikes or surges can not only overwhelm your protective device, but can override a system components internal fusing and do serious damage. Use the rear panel switch to turn off your equipment when you are not present to monitor conditions. Please reference the conditions stipulated in the limited warranty policy.
Installation Conditions
Environment
The operating temperature range of the CL-2500 SSP is 41- 95 F (5-35 C). Operating humidity is 5% to 90% (no condensation). Do not operate the unit when ambient temperatures and/or humidity are outside of this range. Allow adequate air circulation (4 minimum surround) to prevent excess internal heat buildup. Keep the CL-2500 SSP apart from FM or cable TV coaxial antenna leads to minimize reception interference.
Precautions
Make all connections to and disconnections from the CL-2500 SSP with AC Power disconnected and all system components switched OFF. Commence installation with the CL-2500 SSPs AC cord disconnected and the unit removed from power, with all other system components turned off, until all interconnects are installed. Whenever the CL-2500 SSP is connected to AC power and the rear panel switch is ON, it is indeed live, and in Standby mode. Turning the Front Panel Power Switch ON or OFF toggles the SSP between ON and Standby.
Condensation
Moisture may form on the display lens due to temperature or humidity extremes, or as relates to following: Immediately after a heater has been turned on When the unit is moved from a cold environment into a warm one If placed too close in proximity to a heat source such as a radiator etc. If moisture forms inside the unit, it may not operate properly. To correct the problem, move the product away from the heat source, turn the units power on and allow approximately one hour for the moisture to evaporate before operating the unit.
Maintenance
Clean the CL-2500 SSP faceplate, control buttons and chassis only with a soft, lint-free cotton cloth (like a well-worn, oftwashed T-shirt), lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do not use any abrasive pad, scouring powder nor solvent-containing spray cleaners, (especially anything including alcohol and benzine) on the player.
Placement
As the CL-2500 SSP is a critical processing component, it must be mounted on a stable, non-resonant and vibration-free surface and outside the dispersion paths and magnetic fields of your loudspeakers. DO NOT place the CL-2500 SSP directly atop any device that emits heat or vibration (i.e., transformers, amplifiers), nor in the path of direct sunlight.

Set Right Rear Delay Turn the Select Knob to set the Right Rear Delay to 0-15 milliseconds (ms) in 5 ms increments, then press Enter.
Example:
Lets say when I measure the distance from my front right speaker to my favorite listening chair I get 10 feet, then I measure the distance from my center channel speaker to my listening chair and I get 7 feet. I will need 3 milliseconds of delay to compensate for the difference of 3 feet.
25
Using the Noise Generator with a Sound Pressure Level (SPL) Meter
When the Noise Generator is enabled, each time you press the Enter button the SSP will advance to the next speaker and play the calibrated test signal. The Noise Generator is not available on the subwoofer output. Place the meter in the prime listening seat at about ear height pointed toward the TV. Start the Noise Generator for the left front channel and write down the reading. Then press the Enter button to move the test signal to the next channel and check the reading for the center channel speaker. Adjust the trim for the center channel so that the SPL meter reads the same value as it did for the left front speaker. Repeat this process for the right front and for both surround speakers. When measuring the surround channels, you may need to point the SPL meter at the speaker that is playing for a more accurate reading. Because the subwoofer level will be program material dependent, you will probably want to start with the nominal zero setting and adjust it after you have listened to both movies and music. You will probably find you want to customize the subwoofer level setting for each preset. In general, movies will have a subwoofer level about 10dB higher than the level needed for stereo music reproduction.

BypassA rerouting of audio or video signals to bypass additional electronic circuitry. ChannelA signal path such as, the right channel. CoaxialCan describe both a cable and a connector. Coax cable uses a metallic shield and both the cable and connector have a 75-ohm impedance. ComponentDescribes the components that make up composite video. The three channels of information, Red, Green and Blue (RGB) are often processed as Y, Pb, Pr or component video on DVD for higher video fidelity. CompositeA video signal that contains luminance, color and synchronization information. CompressionA technique of reduction relating to the transmission or storage of audio or video information. dB (decibel)A measure of voltage, current or power loss or gain. DelayThe time required for a signal to pass through a circuit. DVDDigital Versatile Disk. An optical disc format designed to function as a storage device for digital audio and digital video. EEPROMElectrically Erasable ProgrammableRead Only Memory. A type of chip that can hold data even when there is no power applied. The data can be erased electronically. EPROMSame as EEPROM except the data can be erased with ultraviolet light. Fiber OpticsAs in TosLink, the transmission of digital signals in the form of light through plastic or glass fiber cables. ImpedanceThe resistance to AC presented by a circuit.

Troubleshooting
CL-2500 SSP will not power on.
Check On/Off switchThe rear panel On/Off Switch must be in the On position for the unit to be powered on (see page 5). Check AC connectionEnsure the AC cord is installed correctly into both the AC outlet and the rear panel plug (see page 5).
No video.
Check video connectionCheck the video input connection on the VSW rear panel and the output connection from the source device (see VSW manual, page 6). Verify input jack numberCompare the back-lit number on the VSW front panel with the input jack number on the rear panel (see VSW manual, page 6). Verify Presets video input assignmentReview the Presets video input assignment through the system configuration menus. The input designation must match the rear panel input jack name/number (see page 29). Check TV input settingsVerify that the TVs input selection (S-Video, Composite, or Component) matches the sources video input type to the VSW. The VSWs video output signal is only carried by the connection with the same connector type as that of the input video connection.
