About us The EU Oil and Proteinmeal Industry also known as FEDIOL, is a European industry federation based in Brussels that was founded in 1958. FEDIOL represents the interests of the European seed and bean crushers, meals producers, vegetable oils and fats producers/processors. FEDIOL members crush 30 million tonnes of oilseeds a year, what makes of FEDIOL one of the largest oilseed crusher federations worldwide. With a production of 8.6 million tonnes of vegetable oils and a further processing of 3.7 million tonnes of imported oils, the EU industry serves the second largest world market of vegetable oils after China. Our industry also produces 20 million tonnes of meals supplying the largest world meal market (51 million tonnes). There are some 150 oilseeds processing and vegetable oils and fats production facilities across Europe, employing approximately 20 000 people.
Our mission

to formulate a common policy in the interest of the EU Oil and Proteinmeal Industry at National, European and International level; to represent, protect and promote the EU Oil and Proteinmeal Industrys position on a range of topics of interest to its members; to develop professional principles and good manufacturing practices that ensure the quality and safety of our products; to encourage the development and implementation of a workable regulatory framework both at EU and international level which responds to the needs of the EU Oil and Proteinmeal Industry.
Our activities

FEDIOL aims to promote the image of an innovative, environmentally responsible and dynamic industry at the service of its customers and confident in its ability to strengthen its position on world markets. To achieve its aims, FEDIOL closely follows and tries to influence all policy, economic and technical developments relevant to the EU Oil and Proteinmeal Industry regarding: food safety feed safety international trade agricultural policy transport and contracts environment legislation biofuels and biolubricants The FEDIOL secretariat analyses the potential impact of the above developments on the industrys business activities and coordinates a common position with the help of relevant experts. This means proactive and defensive lobby actions by anticipating and influencing regulatory developments and informing our members regarding EU policies and other international issues. FEDIOL lobby actions are directed towards Community institutions (European Commission, European Parliament, Council of Ministers) as well as International organisations (WTO, WHO, CODEX). FEDIOL actively participates in other organisations as: CODEX Alimentarius EBB (European Biodiesel Board) Grain Club (European associations network of grain processors and traders) RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) RTRS (Roundtable on Responsible Soy) Over time FEDIOL has also built powerful relationships with other stakeholders such as: ingredients manufacturers associations (e.g. AMFEP, AAC, ELC, EFPRA, CEFS) feed related associations (e.g. FEFAC, FEFANA, OVOCOM) grain trade related associations (e.g. FOSFA, COCERAL, GAFTA) farmers associations (e.g. COPA-COGECA)
