January AD 2012
From the East: As we start another year at Orange Park Lodge, I would like to thank you, the Brethren, for your vote of confidence and trust in electing me as your Worshipful Master for this upcoming year. We have the finest Lodge in the state, and I fully intend to continue on the path that the Past Masters of this Lodge have set before us. I will be contacting many of you this month about committees and responsibilities that I would like some assistance with. I plan on keeping the Month of January a light one as we begin this year, but I plan on having a full slate of meetings in February. We will be dark on the 2 and will have a Stated th Communication on the 16 . We will open the Funeral Lodge at 5:30 pm on the 16th, have Dinner at 6:30 pm, and have the meeting at 7:30 pm. Together we will continue the traditions that Orange Park Lodge has set in place.

Secretarys Corner
Brothers, thank you again for electing me your Secretary for 2012. I humbly accept this position and ask for your continued support through the coming year. Im in the process of doing two Trestleboards each month instead of just one. One Trestleboard will be more or less abbreviated to save on costs of mailing and processing. The other version will be the email version and will contain additional information about the Lodge and hopefully articles, photos and maybe even advertising to help offset some of the costs. All vital information will be in both versions such as the lists of officers and contact numbers, our committees and the monthly schedule. Also any Grand Lodge required information will be contained in both. I will be seeking your inputs for the email version and I hope that will cause more of our members who have email to sign up for that version and continue to reduce our mailing costs. I am open to any other suggestions as to how we can make the Trestleboard more informative and useful to our membership. Thanks again. Charlie

Freemasonry and Brotherhood

The fraternity of Free and Accepted Masons has members from every ethnic group and every continent in the world. Brotherhood is a primary teaching of Masonry--that each person must be judged as an individual, on his own merits, and that such factors as race, national origin, religious creed, social status, or wealth are incidental to the person's character. Freemasonry was brought to North America in the 1700s, a time when racial attitudes were very different from today. As happened with many churches and social organizations, these attitudes caused Freemasonry for African-American men to develop independently. In 1776 a group of African-American Masons in Boston began meeting as a Lodge; they were formally chartered by England in 1784 as African Lodge #459. African Lodge and its descendants developed a separate Grand Lodge system, known as Prince Hall Masonry (after the first Master of African Lodge). Prince Hall Grand Lodges ascribe to the same beliefs and rituals of Freemasonry as do all regular Masonic Lodges throughout the world. Since a petition for membership in Masonry does not ask a petitioner's race, statistics on ethnic breakdowns are not kept by any Grand Lodge. Collecting such information is considered as inappropriate as collecting information about a Brother's financial standing. A lodge is not permitted to accept or exclude a candidate on the basis of his race or national origin. To petition for membership, the petitioner must be "a man of legal age, good reputation, and possess a belief in God." While election to membership in the fraternity is a matter for the local lodge to decide, the qualifications for membership are standard, and all Masons are required to observe them.

I think I may have missed some of the Past District Deputies from the deceased members but just count the number of Orange Park Lodge members who have served, and/or continue to serve, in some sort of Grand Lodge office. I havent even listed the appointed Grand Lodge Offices or Grand Lodge committees. Is this a record for a single Florida Lodge? Inquiring minds want to know. Anyone having information to add to this section please let me know.
