Annual Report of Komol Koli

From January to December, 2010


Bangladesh Protibondi Foundation has been rendering an unique services for the well being of intellectually disabled children from 1984. This foundation provides a special school named Kalyani for the overall measurement and training of these children. In the Komol Koli class of the school primary stage of special training and management is given and considered as the initial stage of training. By doing the medical and psychological assessment of a certain client, the ability level of that child is assessed. After that he or she could get admission in the prospective class, age ranging 4-8 years. As they are pre-schooled we have special curriculum of training which contains some basic functional skill. These are shown below: Under the area of ADL (Activities of Daily Living). Toileting Feeding Dressing In the area of socialization Music, Dance Concept about body parts In the area of speech communication Objective identification Picture identification Story telling Imitation play Motor Skills Assembly Exercise Gymnastic Pre-academic Drawing Scribbling Counting

Dibosh and Shouvo already been drop out. Reason Unknown. Shema, Syeem, Shahil are irregular due to illness.

Nanina has been transferred to Pre Class for 1 year for stimulation. Objectives: The main objectives of the special training are
(a) To make the student of the class again minimum self help skills, Depending on their last ability

and manage their own daily living activities by themselves.


(b) To help the students to learn social adaptive behavior. (c) To help them learn communicative and speech.

(d) To acquaint them with some pre academic functions. Strategies: The training process thus maintains an individual goal plan for each student. By observing the students current level of functioning the instructor first in the goal plan and then she/he setups a expecting level of development of those students in a long period of time (5-6 months). To fulfill a long target the trainer must have a prepare a lesson plan for working with students in the class room. A.D.L (All daily living activities) Toileting: Most of the students have partial toilet training. Others do not have any training and they could even show any understandable sign for that. Some of them after toilets in the class room Akus, Munna, Syeem needs 50% help. All the students having toilet training could only use the toilet by themselves but without clearing. Feeding : Among the new and old students can eat their tiffin full sill Shama, Roni, Refat, Fahim, Sahel, Dipto. Only a few students can use it spoon while eating food (Noodles, Halua, Shemai, Shuji) with little spilling nearly 50% of the children is able to drink water by holding glasses by

their hands- Akus, Munna, Syeem depended the helper about 50% children cannot take food by their hands. Dressing : Among the new and old student of Komol Koli class only few can put on/off dress by themselves. Rests of the other need partial or full help for dressing. According to their ability about shirt, pant, shoes and socks. Fahim, Shama, Shouvo are able to put of their dress completely. Socialization : Most of the student Komol Koli are somewhat social. About 50% of the used to say bye, salam and handshake with guests or teachers. Shama, Roni, Sahel, Dipto wants to play in groups. All boys show interest in playing with football and cricket. Music & Dance : Except Roni, Akus, Fahim, Shama almost the entire class likes to attends the music period, on the other hand Knife, Sahel, Dipto remain always dancing. Monna, Syeem, Sahel, Dipto like to enjoy full time music. About 40% of the student have no idea about dancing. Speech and Communication : Shama, Roni, Kief, Dipto, Fahim, able to speak a single (simple) sentence made of two or three words non-speech children communication and understanding level of student they are giving a lot of speech stimulation through reciting, singing, drama, story, telling and role play. Motor skill : (a) Assembly During assembly all the students of Komol Koli in the class room and perform their physical exercise and recites National Anthems with grter joy and enthusiasm. About 45% of them are not willing to responds but keeping movements to and unmindful in the hall room. Monna, Akus, Syeem follows the direct as directed by the gym teacher.
(b) Exercise- Seeking no help 60% of the student in the class attends the gymnastic class, take

part in physical exercise at their own interest and able to perform the easier items only.

Pre-academic achievement :
(a) Drawing Different types of hand drawing out lined picture are giving to the students for

coloring. All of them like drawing much and fond of working individually according to their own desire. Akus, Mona show no willingness to drawing. Shama, Roni, Dipto, Kief, Fahim wish to color marked pages and have get the minimum primary idea of color like red, orange, yellow and green.
(b) Scribbling About 50% of them show great desire for working in this area and able to hold

the pencils by the nearest and while others work improperly holding pencils by the end.
(c) Crafts and Pasting Students get a lot of pleasure and fun to cut and pest design on the

planned board. Most of them try to hold a cutting piece of design and attempt to run towards the board to place it an planned board to it an planned board.

(d) Counting - The student actually do not have any concepts of abstract thinking Shama, Roni,

Shouva can cite numbers from one to ten or even fifteen by memorizing only but not comprehensively.
(e) About cognitive area nearby 40% of the students are able to make towers with the help of

fine to eight cubes and can make bridges also. 60% students can follow the instructions of putting objects inside, outside, in front or behind. Outcome : about 60% of Komol Koli have develop to great extends in the area of toileting, feeding, communication and socialization. Problem faced : During worker with the students of Komol Koli class the following was noticed.

Lack of play grounds, lack of internal support service. Distance from home, high transport cost. Some of the students remain absent for a long time. High expectation of parents and their financial problems. Solutions : Parents were requested and encouraged to bring their children regularly without any break. Parents expectation were discussed in monthly parents meeting and make them understand the real condition if their children. Future plan: Maximum students of this class will able to learn ADL training. Along with self help skills they will learn extra co- curriculum activities including various types of academic skills according to their interest and abilities. Multidisciplinary approaches will provide in a intensive way for the development of the students of service disabilities.
