Rationale

India is expected to be the worlds largest economy by 2050, surpassing China and the United States, report has said. China should overtake the US to become the largest economy in the world by 2020, then be overtaken by India by 2050. The Indian economy is expected to be nearly $85.97 trillion up by 2050, from $3.92 trillion in 2010. Going by the report, India would surpass the US currently the worlds largest economy to become the second largest by 2040. All this is not possible unless India can invest over 9 per cent of its GDP in infrastructure to keep the growth engine of the GDP accelerating at 9 per cent pa. The ideal time for the sunrise opportunities in infrastructure is NOW. In the Twelfth Five Year plan which commences from 2013, an investment of $1 trillion has been envisaged in infrastructure of which, 50 per cent would have to be contributed by the private sector presenting a huge opportunity for the sector to play an integral role in leveraging this opportunity.

Format The Infrastructure Today India Opportunity 2012 conference will address issues and evolve specific solutions. The conference is deliberately structured in the form of relative brief speeches and longer panel discussions and interactions. The format also facilitates more detailed interaction for delegates to share experiences and ask questions to the panellists. Each session will include a Session chair who will make a detailed introduction to the topics in his/her session.
