Bookmark Contest Winners Honored at Special Event

Once a gain, Rowan Public Librarys bookmark contest was a huge success. This year over 300 children submitted entries, and library staff admit that choosing a winner was a very difficult task! On December 5, 2011, all nine winners of the bookmark contest and their families gathered in the childrens room to be honored at a special reception given by the Friends of the Library. The event was even more special because five of the winners of the Teen Book Cover Contest attended and were honored as well. The children and teens received wonderful prizes sponsored by the Friends of the Library, the Literary Bookpost, ChickFil-A, and CiCis Pizza.

Winners of the bookmark contest were honored at a reception in December.

The bookmark contests first place winners will have their creation professionally printed and distributed at the library. To see all the entries, check out the display at RPLs Headquarters

New Books for the New Year

Is it your New Year's Resolution to read a new book or meet new people? You can do both at the Book Bites Book Club at South Rowan Regional Library in China Grove. The club meets the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Members choose all the books, and read and discuss a new title each month. And if you like food, this is the book club for you! Members take turns bringing light refreshments that are tied in with the books theme. For example when reading Mountains Between Us, a story of a plane wreck and survival in the mountains, the group snacked on trail mix and beef jerky just like the characters in the book. Join us beginning Tuesday, January 24 when we discuss Spell of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning. New members are always welcome. Upcoming book selections include: February 28: Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards March 27: Moon Women by Pamela Duncan April 29: Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Caf by Fannie Flagg May 29: Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen June 26: Life of Pi by Yan Martel July 31: Enders Game by Orson Scott Card
