Human Resources SAP Installation Guide 2

Introduction
Now that your username has been added to the SAP Users group, you will be able to complete installation of the software but you will not be able to access SAP until an actual username and password has been issued for the system.

Please note this is not your network login username and password

If you have any difficulties or problems with your log-in, it may be worth either contacting your technical staff within your department, or you could try and contact the SAP Helpdesk on 52121 or saphelpdesk@salford.ac.uk as they may be able to provide a solution as well.

It is important to ensure you have administrator rights on your computer. This should have been given to you during the PC setup. To test if you have administrator rights try to save a document on to your C drive, or double click on the time in the bottom right hand side of the screen.

If you are presented with a pop up box which allows you to change the time and date then you should have the correct access to install SAP. It is necessary to have administrator rights to your PC if you are to install any software on your machine as otherwise you will not be able to proceed with the programme installation.

If this succeeds you should have administrator rights, and can therefore proceed further with the SAP Installation Guide.

Each time you login to the network there should be an automated process that creates a virtual J drive connection to the SAP fileserver. This is essential in order to run or install SAP regardless of the operating system you are using. If you do not see the SAP 6.40 icon described below, then you may not have a J drive in this case, follow the instructions at the end to connect to the J drive manually.

Please ensure you follow the instructions below in order to successfully install the SAP System on your computer.

You should be given details of your user id and initial password separately. This will have been sent to the SAP Help Desk, who will then contact you to arrange training. If you need specifically Travel Management training then you should get in contact with the Payroll department as they will organise this for you. If you have any queries about your user name, password or about the possible training you can arrange, please contact the SAP Helpdesk on 52121 or saphelpdesk@salford.ac.uk.

How to install the SAP GUI

The next time you logon to the network after you will see the following prompt.

Please answer Yes to begin installation. It should take about 5-15 minutes to complete.

Once installation has started a screen will appear as below with Installing SAP 7.10 GUI message.

Once installation is complete, press any key and the screen should disappear, meaning that you now have the new GUI installed on your desktop, ready to use SAP.

When you open the SAP Logon PAD it should look like this:

Dependent on your access rights, you may have different databases to log into, but as a rule of thumb, it is always best to use the Development database as the live system.

*Check that the login screen shows SAP logo 710 in the top left hand corner*

The installation should only happen once and you should not get a prompt again when you logon. If you do see the installation process again or have any other issues please contact the SAP helpdesk e-mail saphelpdesk@salford.ac.uk or telephone 52121.

Before you contact the SAP Helpdesk, it would assist if you carry out these two checks and if needed, advise the outcome to the SAP help desk: 1. Check to make sure that your PC has administrator rights (see above section) 2. Check to see if your J Drive is correctly mapped. If it is, when you check My Computer you should see (J:) Saphelp on Isd-masterapps-1\Apps\SAP (as below)

Option 2 Manual Installation

As well as the automatic installation, it may be possible for you to install SAP manually. This is best used only if you do not have an automatic pop up message as this should be the normal route to take. If you have any questions about your access rights and the installation of SAP, please contact the SAP Helpdesk (52121 or saphelpdesk@salford.ac.uk) as they should be able to advise further for you.

How to Manually Install SAP

Double-click the Application Explorer icon on your desktop:

Go to Salford Choose the SAP Client Install Choose the option for SAP

SAP should now start to install, and could take up to 30 minutes. Once installation has been completed, it may ask to reboot your computer which would finalise the programme installation. The installation itself requires some Microsoft libraries before it can proceed if your PC does not have these libraries already then they will be installed before SAP and you will be asked to reboot before the full SAP installation starts. If this happens again after you have rebooted then say no to exit to reboot and the SAP setup should start installing SAP. The SAP installation may require another reboot upon completion.

If you are asked to reboot your computer, please login to the network as per usual
