Seminar on “Transformation to Service

Based Economy”
The Post Graduate Department of Computer Engineering is organizing a two
day seminar on “Transformation to Service Based Economy” at Pune Institute of
Computer Technology on 27th and 28th September 2008. It is planned to have
presentation sessions from speakers from Industry and academics on topics
related to the above subject. In particular articles/ presentations on the following
topics are welcome.
1. Economic landscape: Agricultural, Manufacturing and Service
Economies, Issues and challenges associated with the new knowledge
based economy. Vision and strategies for development of knowledge based
economy.
2. Transmission of knowledge, know how and technology across borders
And the role of ICT. Internationalization of scientific activities
3. Scientific and technological advancement, complex technologies,
Knowledge industries, Transportation infrastructure, Education and
training systems, Skilled and technical workforce, role of physical
infrastructure, knowledge infrastructure, economic growth
4. IP regime, Effective protection and approval of IP rights
Technology transfer systems from R and D to industry and business
4. Eco system that facilitates knowledge flows and interaction
5. Financial systems that promote ventures with high risks
6. Role of IT in service based economy
7. Applications of IT in Management
8. Research in IT outsourcing based on IT systems management
9. Role of IT in successful knowledge management initiatives
10. Top management tool box for managing corporations.

The students of the department are required to prepare their

papers/presentations with special reference to the following topics:

2. Need to establish and employ best practices, procedures to optimise IT
services
3. Planning and implementation of service management
4. Integrated IT management Tool kit
5. Web services and IT management
6. IT Project Management
7. Electronic learning of IT skills
8. CMM, CMMI, Six Sigma, CBIT, eTOM, ISO 17799
9. ITIL, BS 15000, ITL framework, ISO/TEC 20000
10. Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF)
Contributions on the above topics may be submitted for publication and
presentation on or before22nd September 2008 to Head, Post Graduate
