Page About Plastic, Rubber, and Blended Plastic/Rubber Tubing Head

Many variables affect tubing, such as temperature, pressure, pump speed, and the fluid being conveyed through the tube. It is your responsibility to test and monitor the tubing to ensure it is appropriate for the intended application. Tubing is not intended nor recommended for medical applications. Material Selector PacksYoull get one individually marked piece of tubing in the materials listed. Each piece is 3 long and is the most popular product within the material family.

Bend Radius (Flexibility)Indicates how far you can bend tubing before damaging it. The smaller the measureBend Radius ment, the better the flexibility. Bend radius is measured from the center of the bend to the edge of the tube. Bend Radius Selector PackYoull get seven pieces of tubing, ranging in lengths from 12 to 30 . Each piece of tubing is marked with the bend radius: 58 , 1 , 318 , 5 , 6 , 8 , and unbendable.

Color and ClarityClear and transparent-colored tubing allow you to see whats flowing through your line. With semiclear tubing, you can see that there is something in your line, but the view is limited. With opaque tubing, you cannot see what is in your tubing. Temperature/PressureAs temperature rises, the amount of pressure tubing can withstand will decrease. Tensile StrengthThe breaking strength of material when stretched. FittingsTubing hardness determines which tube fitting you should use. Barbed Fittings: Tubing slides over barbs to form a seal; use a tube or hose clamp to secure hose to fitting. Compression and Instant Fittings: Both styles form a seal around the tubing. Note: Use with Fittings Style(s) below represents all the fittings that can be used with a material. Please see the individual tubing presentations for fitting recommendations. Wall Hardness (Durometer)Measured on a Shore A, Shore D, or Rockwell R scale, the chart below shows a comparison for these scales. Wall Hardness (Durometer) Selector PackThis pack includes nine pieces of tubing. Each piece is 3 long and is individually marked with its durometer: Shore A 35, 40, 55, 65, 74, 85; Shore D 43-55, 65; and Rockwell R 120. Tubing Features This flexible material is a popular choice not only because its economical, but also because its versatile. Flexible like PVC, except with higher abrasion resistance. An alternative to polyurethane. Not as clear or soft as PVC. A blend of polyethylene and vinyl acetate, it stays flexible at low temperatures. Not only can this material handle higher temperatures than polyethylene, it is also harder and stronger. Hard materials with high impact resistance. Rigid material with an excellent balance between toughness and clarity. Rigid, hard, and durable, acetal absorbs less moisture than nylon. Very smooth, friction-resistant surface. Unaffected by most chemicals. Made without a plasticizer that can contaminate fluid passing through. Also known as Kynar, this tubing resists abrasion and UV. Made without a plasticizer that can contaminate fluid passing through tube. Clearer than FEP, PTFE, and PFA tubing for better flow and visibility. Offers superior impact and chemical resistance with a wide temperature range. Harder than natural rubber yet less resilient. Soft with very good impact and abrasion resistance. Its highly elastic and will resume its original shape after bending and stretching. Not as soft as latex, but has excellent impact and abrasion resistance. Excellent chemical and UV resistance. Can withstand higher temperatures than any other rubber tubing with the exception of silicone. Good resistance to weathering, oxidation, and acid. Harder than natural rubber yet less resilient. Weather resistant with a high tear strength. Great for outdoor use, it resists ozone and abrasion. Remains soft and flexible over a wide temperature range. Also called thermoplastic elastomer, this highly durable material combines the best performance characteristics of rubber and plastic. Its soft, flexible, and resistant to fatigue.
