01. English Language Panel Line-up

The Head of ELP congratulates the EL teachers in bringing up the


percentage.

For this year, EL teachers must ensure that the passes percentage will increase to 70 %, with 10 pupils getting As.

Year 6 EL teacher will prepare a progress graph for whole class and
individual achievement.

As for other classes (Year 1 - Year 5), the percentage should increase by a
minimum of 10 %.

For 100% passes, minimum grades are as follows :


Grade: A 10 % B 50% C 40%

3.1 All EL teacher should include a copy of the Yearly Plan for the class/year
that they re teaching, in their T&L Record. 3.2 Each EL teacher also needs to come out with a topical and grammar checklist. 3.3 T& L process should have these strategies :

Year 6 students should add another book and use the same exercise
book for SBT and extra classes. 4.2 Workbooks can be used for T&L. The Head of the EL Panel also reminded teachers to maximize the use of Activity Book (Year 1-3) and workbooks (Year 4-6). For those pupils who have yet to buy exercise and workbooks, ask them to do so.

6.1 Buddy Support System (BSS)


EL teachers will be buddies to the Math and Science teachers

Panel will have a separate meeting with the BSS committee members, as
usual. 07. Reading Project (NILAM)

7.1 The evaluation will still be continued this year. EL teachers must remind
and encourage students to read as many books in English as they can. They need to jot down the information in the NILAM Book. 08. School-Based Oral Assessment (SBOA)

8.1 The evaluation will continue as in the previous year.


09. Teaching of Literature

10.1

Contemporary Literature was introduced in 2004 as a part of the EL Syllabus in Primary schools for Level 2 students. This intensive reading programme uses 3 prescribed texts (consist of short stories and poems).

10.2 EL teachers should carry out activities as suggested in the course and
students need to keep a folio. 10. ICT Literacy for Primary School (ICTL)

10.1 The programme has been implemented for Year 1 in 2005 and it will progress in stages until the students reach Year 6. Tentatively will start in February.

The T&L is 780 minutes per year in a continuous three-month


duration. Two periods (60 minutes) of the EL timetable are allocated for this programme.

Year 1 and 2 EL teachers will use last years module. Year 3 module is yet to be received. EL teachers should include ICTL Yearly Syllabus in their T&L Record

EL teachers can start training potential school representatives for


Story-telling, competitions. Reading, Public Speaking and Choral Speaking

12.4

EL Corner board

The former EL board located at the computer lab will be given to


other interested parties, for we have a new and bigger board.

All EL teachers are requested to chip-in by putting up relevant


materials.

A magnetic whiteboard has been allocated for the use of the EL


Panel for information or announcements. 12.5 English Day

Students-centered activities are carried out during this 15 minutes


programme, held every Thursday.

Will be carried throughout this year.


12.6 Observation

T&L Observation Schedule has been distributed by the Headmaster


during the first Curriculum Meeting.

The Head of Panel will assist the administration in observing the EL


teachers. 12.7 Item Building Management

EL teachers are reminded to update if there is any new item.


12.8 In-House Course/Training

To be discussed at a later date.


12.9 Home Learning Programme

EL teachers agreed that it will be done in a module form for Year 16 students , once in a week, starting in March. Contents : Level 1 - Vocabulary based Level 2 - Grammar based

Tasks will be done at home with/without the guidance from parents


but will be certified by them.
