"We are pleased to announce that all humans have now been upgraded.

" ---In the late 1990's the computer became great. It was not until then that th e middle class could afford such wonderful machines. As time went on, thanks to technological advancements, the computer became the universal go-to device. Soon almost all humans had some sort of computer, be it mobile phone or high powered desktop computer. In the year 2020 a group of computer scientists at MIT released a medical de vice based on s computer. This device was meant to regulate hormone deficiencies in some patients. I found a different use for this technology. The device was meant to be impl anted on the brain stem to monitor hormone levels. I thought that maybe it could be used to control vision too. I began experimenting on myself. It took years w orking quietly to learn how to control my eyes. After 10 years I finally had a c omputer controlling my eyes. The next step was using my eyes to make a heads up display that overlaye d my vision. This required more processing power, but thanks to modern technolog y, I was able to use a smartphone to perform all of the heavy lifting. During my experiments I noticed that as I added a new feature, the compu ter learned how to adapt to what I was doing. When I was driving, the display sh owed me a spedometer and any possible hazards that were nearby. As soon as I lef t the car, I began to get information on stores that were nearby, or the securit y status of my home. It seemed that the computer was beginning to learn my habit s. By then I had already fallen in love with the idea of upgrading my mind to become a computer. I began focusing on integrating features so that the compu ter could focus on specific tasks at hand and guide me through them. After about 10 years into the project I was finally able to have the computer take notes fo r me during a lecture I attended on mobile computing in LA. I was able to do abs olutely nothing and watch notes fly across my eyes as the computer in my brain t ook in the information. I had become a cyborg. I showed a friend of mine all of the progress that I had made, and then gave him a proposal. I asked if he would like to be the second tester of the com puter. He jumped at the chance. It took a lot of work to find a neurosurgeon who would agree to attempt to connect the computer for this purpose, as I had gotte n the implant under the guise of a hormon deficiency. "We are pleased to announce that all humans have now been upgraded." 10/10/1998 I just bought a computer. A Macintosh G3. It is the newest computer from Apple Inc. I hope that it will help me get through grad school, instead of writ ing all of my papers on that old PC. 1/1/2000 The Y2K scare has passed. Everything seems to be fine. I just finished m y thesis on the human brain as a computer. I want to continue experimenting to s ee if I can make a computer just like the human brain. I was talking with some friends from the university about the ability to integrate a computer into the human body. Most of them just laughed, but Steve and I continued talking about it until well into the New Year. We think that it may be possible to learn how to control the brain via a computer, but the techno logy available to make a computer work that way is just not possible. We are pla nning on meeting with a friend of ours who is a neurosurgeon to discuss the idea . 3/5/2002 We have made a lot of progress on our idea to make a computer part of th e human body. John, the neurosurgeon, has warmed up to the idea of integrating a computer into the circuitry of the human brain. He says that the biggest challe

nge we would have is getting the compute small enough yet powerful enough to be able to be a functioning computer. I got a job at Apple last year and have been working on finding a way to to use the processors
