EAGLE EXTRA
January 05, 2012
Dear Parents, Happy New Year! Teachers came back to work on Monday, January 2 excited about the second half of the school year. We hope you and your child are excited, also, and we look forward to continuing to serve you. Our goal is to provide your family with excellent service and educational experiences. Please share with us how we are doing. A short form is located at the end of this newsletter. You may use the form to write up to three pluses and two wishes (i.e. three things that are going well at school and two things we need to consider doing differently or improving upon.) If you would like to share your thoughts, return the form to school by Tuesday, January 17. As a faculty we will review your comments and use them to help us plan for the remainder of the 20112012 school year and the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. Best wishes for good health, happiness and success in 2012. Sincerely, Nancy Coleman 2011-2012 Spirit Fund Annual Giving Campaign Due to the diligence of our Spirit Fund Board, the 20112012 campaign is well underway. The Spirit Fund has received over $25,000 as of January 3, 2012. This fall, First Citizens Bank Foundation donated $5000.00 to the school to purchase several grade levels of the software program, Odyssey, published by Compass Learning. In November, the Kyle Foundation, located in Florence, South Carolina gave the school $3000.00 to purchase an additional grade level of Odyssey software. Since 1994, parents, grandparents, friends, corporations and foundations have given over $1,100,000.00 to the Spirit Fund Annual Giving Campaign. Because of contributions to past Spirit Fund campaigns, the school was able to build our science building, recarpet school hallways and classrooms, refurbish and air-condition our gymnasium, upgrade our technology, and improve our learning environment in countless other ways. During the 2010-2011 year, the Spirit Fund raised $74,074.00. It is particularly gratifying to note that Richard Winn achieved this feat during a prolonged downturn in the economy. Please consider contributing to this years campaign to help us meet or exceed last years donations. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. All gifts are tax-deductible. For information about the Spirit Fund, please contact Lanna McMeekin at 635-5494, ext. 206 or one of the following Spirit Fund Board members: Mrs.Vicki Maass, Chairman, Mrs. Marcia Bonds, Mrs. Michele Boulware, Mr. Hank Harrison, Mrs. Nanette Hawkins, Mr. John Martin, Mrs. Karla Pope, Mr. John Tate, or Mrs. Lori Waldrep.

Students in grades prekindergarten through six will be treated to a performance by Porkchop Productions on Tuesday, January 10 at 9:00 A. M. The play, Sticks and Stones, is a light-hearted way to help students understand bullying that sometimes occurs in todays world and is designed to expose students to strategies for handling adverse situations. The play will help students recognize bullying and understand why people sometimes act as bullies. Other topics addressed in the play are cyber bullying, when to tell and seek help (i.e. difference between telling and tattling), the importance of self confidence, and strategies to safely and effectively address bullying. This performance is funded courtesy of Spirit Fund contributions. Mrs. Mobley Plans Field Trip for Anatomy Class Students in Mrs. Mobleys sixth period Anatomy and Physiology Class will tour the Body Worlds Vital exhibit at the South Carolina State Museum in Columbia on Wednesday, January 18.
