FARAWAY CHICO The Faraway program is a simple one: Concentrate the genetics of M6 Grid Maker and BCR Polled Unlimited. The foundation of this program is Faraway Chico, our herdsire. We think he is emerging as the best breeding son of Grid Maker. His dam is WDZ Luscious Lady 4008, one of LT Unlimited Ease 9108s greatest daughters. - Calving Ease: Birth Weight: 86 lbs, all of the calves in his first two calf crops have come easy. - Performance: 205-Day Weight: 830 lbs. and 365-Day Weight: 1,301 lbs. One of his sons had 8th high ADG on Edisto Forage Bull Test. - Carcass: Ultrasound - yearling Rib Eye Area of 17 sq. in., with Intramuscular Fat of 2.76 %. His GeneStar MVP Breed Rankings place him in top 10% of the Charolais breed for Marbling. - Moderate Mature Size: Frame Score 6.1, 2300 lbs. - Masculinity: Chico looks like a bull. We froze semen on him at 11 months of age! - Disposition: Chico and his babies all share a very pleasing disposition. - Good Looking: Twice ROE Reserve Grand Champion Bull.

Goodness has a look.

We show our cattle to promote the breed, to fellowship with other breeders, to expose our cattle to potential customers, and to compare our cattle to others. For what its worth, certain traits, like soundness, can be very effectively evaluated by visual appraisal in a show ring situation. But we do not strive to breed show cattle. Indeed, certain very successful Charolais show cattle genetics simply dont make our cut due to lack of soundness, too much birth weight, too much hair, too little performance, or inadequate marbling potential. We choose to breed cattle that we think will work for us and commercial cattlemen, and that we like to look at. If they win a few ribbons, so much the better.

Like Begets Like

Chicos first calf crop has been impressive. SMR Waldorf- linebred to Grid Maker, out of our Supreme 23S cow- was Grand Champion bull at the New York and Keystone shows for Faraway, Spring Meadows Ranch, and Mead Farms. His full sister, SMR Wendy, was Grand Champion at the Nebraska State Fair and a class Winner at the AIJCA National for Miranda Raithel. And another Chico son, out of his dams full sister, was a top performer at the Edisto Forage Bull Test.

..and it aint ugly.

Circle K Sunrise is an August 2007 daughter of M6 Grid Maker out of an Impressive D040 cow from the great RAC Alicia cow family. She was shown very successfully, including winning Grand Champion at the Keystone show, and 9th place Show Heifer of the Year. She worked hard raising a good first calf last Fall, which weaned with a 101 ratio, and got bred back on time. Shell sell with her second calf, a polled bull calf by Chico, calved September 28, 2010, BW 75 lbs. Hes just a baby, but he has a really nice look to him. Sunrise, and all the Faraway females in the sale, sells with breeding privileges to either of Faraway Chico, SMR Waldorf, DR Revelation or LT Thundering Wind. EC Lady Bronson 2027 represents a rare opportunity to buy an AICA Sterling Dam of Distinction. Her first four calves ratioed over 107 ratio at weaning. The best daughter of EC Bronson, a perennial trait leader for milk, she is a big framed cow weighing over 1800 lbs, but has proven to be an easy keeper and a great source for calving ease, disposition, udder quality, and milk. A daughter will continue her work at Faraway, a son is herd sire for Severance in North Dakota (an $8900 sale topper for Eggleston), a grandson is working at Eggleston, and a maternal brother was herdsire for Jensen Charolais. She has a really nice heifer calf at side by Chico, born August 16, 2010, BW 75 lbs, whose full sister will stay at Faraway, and with rebreeding privileges..

She is a March 11, 2008 daughter of Cardinal Bonanza, lead bull in 2005 Reserve Champion pen at Denver, who had an 18.7 inch REA and sold for $31,000. Obsessions dam was a Canadian cow, Circle Cee Obsession, who was top selling female in the Canadian National Sale as a calf. Her parents are pictured to the left. Circle Cee Obsession was a daughter of Moores Legacy, a great breeding bull in Canada sired by Cougar Hill Hank. Moores Legacy was used heavily by Cardinal Charolais in Colorado. Her grandam is by A-Jays Fastrack, who is noted for passing marbling ability to his descendants. Circle Cee Obsessions dam ranks in the top 1% for Marbling in the Canadian registry. And Obsessions grandam calved every year until she was nineteen year old.

HEP King Grazer

HEP Miss Joan 43W is an October 09 heifer, selling ready to breed, with breeding privileges. This deep bodied heifer was always near the top of her group. Her mother is 46K, our Harold Pate-bred Rosie Prise granddaughter, and she traces back to Rosie Prise on the top side as well. That makes her linebred to that great cow, a Camelot granddaughter who had a 343 day calving interval on her first nine calves, with an average ratio of 115. Youll recall that Rosie Prise is the dam of HEP Serious Business and the granddam of HEP King Grazer, a legend in the breed. Shell be a treasure in somebodys herd.
