Andrew CE Primary School Year 3 Class Bulletin

Term 3
Dear Parents / Carers, I hope you all had a good Christmas Holiday. Thank you so much for the hard work you put in helping your children to complete their holiday homework. Many of the posters are beautifully presented and of a very high standard! We will be displaying them in the classroom for visitors to see. You may have noticed some changes in the classroom this week. The Interactive whiteboard and carpet area are now on the opposite side of the classroom. After some re-arranging of furniture, movement around the classroom should be more straight forward.

Solving one step and two step problems. The 4 and 6 times tables (for those who dont already know them!) Multiplying numbers by 10 and 100. Symmetry. Reading and writing proper fractions. Please continue to practise the multiplication tables with your child on a regular basis, our times tables will now be on Thursdays. Literacy Our first unit this term is play scripts. We will be learning the features of good play scripts and writing our own short plays for a performance. I am hoping we may be able to link this to the animation work we will be doing in ICT. This unit will develop skills in reading with expression, accurate sentence punctuation and using expressive and powerful verbs appropriately. Later in the term we will be covering a unit about information texts. This will be linked to an aspect of our Creative Curriculum focus On Your Marks, Get Set, Go! (related to the Olympics. We our sentence level focus will be descriptive writing Important Notes Swimming We will be swimming every Tuesday morning until the end of Term 4 (except next week 17th January). Children will need a swimming costume or swimming shorts, a towel and a bag to put them in. The swimming teachers will put children into groups according to the amount of swimming experience they have. We will be going to Canons Leisure Centre in Mitcham. Reading and book bags. Please continue to send your child to school with their book bag every day. I encourage children to put all letters in their book bag, this helps prevent them from getting lost between the classroom and your waiting hands! Reading books will continue to be changed on a Wednesday. Please do come and see me if you would like to talk about home reading and the books your child brings home. Continue to listen to your child read, question them about the text and sign the reading journal so we know that they have read their current book and are ready for a new one. Class Novel We are currently finishing a book by Michael Morpurgo called Cool!

Creative Curriculum (Geography, History, Art, DT).

On Your Marks, Get Set, Go!

This school wide Curriculum focus is based on the Olympics. In Year 3 we have chosen to compare the Olympics and Paralympics, as well as learn about countries around the world, and how their climate and landscape affects the sports they excel in. We will be focussing more on Geography and Art as History and DT were covered more last Term. RE The history and layout of the Bible Outdoor PE Striking Games (plus trying out one or two Olympics sports). Indoor PE there is no Indoor PE this term, we are doing swimming instead. Spanish is still on Wednesdays with Mrs Laing. Science. The science focus this term will be Rocks and Soils. I am pleased that we can link this topic to our geography focus about the climate and landscape of different countries around the world. I am also hoping to do some work on volcanoes and fossils. PHSCE Our School collective worship focus is based on the 7 Olympic and Paralympic values. We will be focussing on these during PHSCE this year. We will also be using the SEAL unit Going For Goals to compliment the work on values and striving to be the best we can be.

Outdoor PE will be on Friday Afternoons. It is cold this term so please make sure your child has tracksuit bottoms as well as their blue PE T-shirt and a pair of trainers. Homework Homework will be set each Friday and is due back the following Wednesday. It can be returned earlier if completed. A number of children have not been bringing back their homework on time. Please encourage your child to bring their homework back on time as well as take an interest the work they are given and supervise them when they are doing it, giving lots of positive praise. Spellings Spellings tests are on Fridays. Punctuality - Punctuality continues to be a problem in year three. Please make every effort to ensure your child is on time for school. PPA Arrangements for Term 3- Mrs Lone will continue to take the class during my PPA time on Friday afternoons. She will supervise the class during Musictrax and teach Outdoor PE.
