ETHICAL VALUES ON JOB An individuals ethical viewpoint does not develop or exist apart from the real world.

Values developed in childhood and youth are constantly tested and on-the-job decisions reflect the employees understanding of ethical responsibility. An individuals ethical behavior affects not only his reputation within the company, but may also contribute to the way in which others perceive the company. Business ethics cannot be separated from the ethics in general and the individual must deal with job problems on the basis of fundamental ethical standards. Several commonly accepted Ethical values of our society Honesty Fairness Obedience to Law Compassion Respect for others Loyalty Dependability Courage Helpfulness Self-Control Truthfulness

We Are Not Always Good While culture, religion, books, films and real people provide us with role models for goodness, those same sources unfortunately offer us images evil. Honesty, Truthfulness, loyalty, respect- most of us have seen the relevance of these qualities on the way we do our job.However, we can also think of situations in gray areas that makes decisions difficult on an ethical basis. For instance, we believe that honesty is essential in business, and would never steal money from the cash drawer, butwe use the company car to run personal errands while making sales rounds. Moral and Nonmoral Standards What falls outside the sphere of moral concern is termed as nonmoral. Whether your new car will top out of at 140 or 160 kph is a nonmoral question. Whether you should top it out on the street fronting the Baclaran Church on a Wednesday at 9 am where a great number of devotees crossing the street would be a moral question. These examples will require us to understand the difference between moral standards and other kinds of stamdards. Wearing shorts to a formal to a formal dinner party would be boorish behavior.
