Cavalry EN-CAHDD2B-ZB Hard Drive Dock

Setup Guide
First of all, please select your mode, JBOD or BIG.

1) Have the unit turned off. The drives should both be inserted. Change
the mode setting on the back of the unit. (please refer to your
included mode instructions or the outside of the unit box).
JBOD = single drives
[ Set jumper pins: 1 = OFF, 2 = ON ]

BIG = both drives combined together into one BIG volume.

[ Set jumper pins: 1 = ON, 2 = OFF ]

2) Now connect the USB to the computer which can be on. Then turn on
the unit.

3) Depending on your OS go to one of the following set of instructions

on preparing the drives:

If you have Windows XP, please go to page 2.

If you have MAC OSX , please go to page 7.

If you have Windows VISTA, please go to page 15.

NOTE: If you are just plugging a single drive into the dock just to access
the data already on it, preset the EN-CAHHD2B-ZB to JBOD mode. Do
>not< turn on the unit with the unit preset to BIG as it will re-initialize
and erase the drive volume of the single drive.

Preparing the EN-CAHDD2B-ZB Hard Drive Dock for
use with Windows XP

1) After you have turned on the unit, Windows XP should recognize and
install the drivers automatically through plug and play. Please wait
for the process to finish. Then go to your desktop and Right-Click on
the “My Computer” icon. (You may alternatively click on “Start->
Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management”)

(For this example, we assume the unit is set to JBOD mode, but you can
easily configure for BIG mode as well)

2) In Computer Management, click on “Disk Management” header. The
right side will show your physical disk drive information. Usually the
“Initialize and Disk Wizard” will pop up. Just click “Next” throughout
the whole wizard until finish. This will initialize your new volumes. (or
1 volume if your mode is set to BIG).

If there is not pop-up initialization wizard: If the “Disk#” is preceded

by a red down arrow, that means the drive is un-initialized. Right
click on the “Disk#” rectangle and click on “Initialize Disk” to start
the initialization wizard. If your drive is already initialized just skip
ahead to step 3)

3) After you have finished initializing your volumes, you must now
create a partition on the unallocated space for each volume. To do this,
just right-click on the white area of the unallocated space as shown,
then left-click select the option “Create New Partition” . (If you have a
BIG volume, you just need to configure one volume.)

4) The New Partition Wizard will start. Please do the following.

a) First click “Next” to continue.

b) Select “Primary Partiton” then click “Next” to continue.
c) You can leave the preset size, then click “Next” to continue.
d) Leave the radio button on “Assign the following Drive Letter”
You can manually change to your choice of Drive letter here or
leave the default selected. Do not select the other options.
Then select “Next” to continue.
e) “Format this partition with the following settings” should be radio
button selected. Leave the “File System” as NTFS. Allocation Unit
Size leave as default. You can change the “Volume Label” or
leave it. Select checkbox “Peform a quick format”. Leave the
checkbox “Enable file and folder compression” blank. Then click
“Next” to continue.
f) Click “Finish” to finish the wizard and start the create new
partition and format volume procedure. Now you can repeat all
the substeps in this step 4 to do the same thing to the other
unallocated JBOD volume. (If you had your unit in BIG mode, then
you only needed to configure one volume and you are done now).

In this example of a single BIG volume. This finished New Volume is

assigned a drive letter “F:”, formatted NTFS and reported “healthy”.

5) You are now done with configuring your new volume. It should be
partitioned and formatted. You can now access the resulting
volumes , if JBOD mode, or the single big volume if BIG mode. You
can also check the properties of your new volume as shown (this
example is a single BIG volume):

use with MAC OSX 10.4, 10.5+

1) After you have turned on the unit, MAC OSX should recognize and
install the drivers automatically through plug and play. Please wait
for the process to finish. Now OSX may pop up a “initialize” dialog
box when it first recognizes your drive. Go ahead and click on
“initialize” to start Disk Utility.

If it doesn’t pop up, you can manually start Disk Utility by going to
top menu “Go” -> Utilities. Then in the Utilities window, click on
“Disk Utility” to start the Disk Utility.

2) When Disk Utility starts up , you need to select the physical hard
drive. If you had set your unit up in JBOD mode you will see two
main orange headers for both hard drives. If you had set your unit up
in BIG mod you will see one main header in orange for your single
BIG logical hard drive. In this example we are using one BIG volume.
So go ahead and click on the main header as shown.

(Note: the first “gray” drive header is listed is your system drive. If there
are any indented headers, they are finished logical volumes. We are not
dealing with any finished logical volumes so always click on an orange
main drive header for the purposes of this guide.)

3) Now you can see options appear on the right after you have clicked
the main orange header for your unit drive. Click on the middle top
tab “partition” to start the “partition” pane options.

4) Now we are read to start partitioning the drive. We are only going to
create one main volume. To do so, see the following figure and
follow the three numbered steps :

1) Click on the “up/down” arrow right tab next to where it says

“Current” under the “Volume Scheme” header.

2) Then click on “1 partition” in the ensuing drop-down menu.

3) Finally click on the “Options” button for the partition map type
options.

5) In the Options pop-up window you can choose the particular
partition windows type for the partition that will be created when you
finish the overall partition process. Please click on the “Apple
Partition”, then click the “OK” button.

 6) Now you are to the “Partition” pane of Disk Utility. You can see it is
ready to partition the new single partition. First you can change the
“Name” of the volume if you wish. You may also select the checkbox
“Install MAC OS 9 Disk Drivers” to make the new volume compatible
with older MAC OS 9 and lower systems. Now just click on the
“Partition” button on the lower right to start the partitioning and
formatting process.

It may take 2 to 8 minutes depending on how fast your MAC system is.
When it starts partitioning and formatting the lower right part of the disk
utility window will show a progress bar like this:

7) When the process is done, your new MAC formatted volume will
appear on the desktop. In this example, we had a single BIG volume.
If you had your EN-CAHHD2B-ZB in JBOD mode, you will have
formatted one of the two drives. All you have to do is repeat the
same previous steps on the second physical drive, except that you
have to click on the second orange main header of your second
physical drive in Disk Utility instead of the first orange main header.
Then click on “Partition” button and continue as usual..

8) You can now access your new volume. (If you had BIG mode set, you
access one new volume; if you had JBOD mode set, you can access
two new volumes). You can click on it to open up the drive window
where you can access and drag and drop or drag out files. If you
click on the “gear” icon button on the menu bar and select “Get Info”
you can get the information on the drive and also type in a new
volume name if you wish. The drive is now ready for normal use.

Preparing the EN-CAHDD2B-ZB Hard Drive Dock for use
with Windows VISTA
1) To get to Windows VISTA disk management, click on “Start”, then
right-click on “Computer”. A pop-up menu will appear. Now left-click
on “manage”. A permission dialog may appear depending if you
have User Access Control enabled. If so, click Ok to continue.

2) You can alternately right-click on the “Computer” icon on your
desktop if you have it. Then click on “manage” on the pop-up menu.

3) The Computer Management window will appear. In this example we
are working with a single BIG volume. Now left click on the “Disk
Management” header in the tree structure on the left. After doing so,
the physical hard drive and volume information will show on the
right. You can see the physical disk volumes on the lower right pane
represented by rectangular bars with rectangle boxes in front labeled
“Disk 0”, “Disk1” etc.

If the “Disk#” is preceded by a red down arrow, that means the drive
is un-initialized. Right click on the “Disk#” rectangle and click on
“Initialize Disk” to start the initialization wizard. If your drive is
already initialized just skip ahead to step 6.

5) If you click on “Initialize disk”, the Initialize Disk Wizard will start. When
it appears, be sure to make sure just the disk you are interested in
initializing is selected by a checkmark.
- You also have the choice of the partition type . Either MBR or
GPT.
- If your external hard drive total volume is 2 terabytes (TB) or less
choose MBR
- If your external hard drive total volume(like a CADA004SA4) is
greater
than 2 terabytes, then you must choose GPT in order to show a
single contiguous volume larger than 2TB.

Now click OK to continue.

6) Now you should be back on the Disk Management pane. If you wish
to delete an existing volume and repartition and reformat the volume,
right-click anywhere on the volume graph (the one with the black or
blue top header), then select “delete partition”. Now whether you
had a previous partition or not, you should see an “unallocated”
volume with a black bar top over a white bar graph. To start the new
partition wizard and create a new partition right click on the white
graph and select “New Simple Volume” as shown.

7) The new partition wizard will start. Go ahead and click “Next” and
then “Next” again. (The 2nd screen just shows the space to be
formatted which is maximized by default. You can change the size if
you wish to make two or more partitions later on). Now pick a drive
letter, or allow it to select the current default drive letter. Ignore the
other two choices. Then click “Next”.

8) On the formatting page, it is recommended to let the wizard choose
the default “file system”= ‘NTFS’, and the default “allocation unit
size” = ‘default’.
Check the checkbox “Perform a quick format”. Then click “Next”,
and on the last page click “Finish” to end the wizard and start the
partitioning and formatting of your single BIG drive volume.

You will see the drive volume bar graph show “formatting …” as it
formats. Allow up to 5 minutes for it to finish. When it’s done, it
should say “healthy”.

If your EN_CAHDD2B-ZB unit was set to JBOD mode, all you have to
do is repeat the STEPS 3 to 8 for the other drive which should still be
listed as unallocated volume. Then after you are done configuring
the other drive you will have 2 volumes ready for use.

9) Your drive volume is ready. You can now left-click on the Computer
icon or selection in Start menu to see your external drive volume.
You can double-click on the drive icon to open the drive volume
window.
You can also right-click on the drive icon to see it’s current
properties.
You are now ready to use your drive volume on the EN-CAHDD2B-ZB
