ENROLLMENT ELIGIBILITY
Children ages two 1/2 through five years may enroll. Each childs readiness best determines his or her eligibility for Discovery Montessori Preschool. Children needing toilet training and children with special needs are considered. A two week trial period is given.

HOURS
Our school hours are: 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday Friday. Half-day and part time programs are available. A rest period is available for all full day students.

FOOD AND SNACKS

Breakfast is provided in the early morning, as well as snacks in the late morning and afternoon. Children at school through lunchtime bring a lunch from home.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT PROGRAM (PIP)

Our Parent Involvement Program (PIP) helps keep tuition cost down while building a community of students, teachers and parents. Our school is a non-profit community school and requires that all parents participate by either serving on the parent board through once a month parent meetings, assisting in the classroom, helping with maintenance and cleaning, yard work, baking, sewing and/or other creative contributions so that we can maintain and improve our school community. Families are required to give thirty hours per year to our school community.

MONTESSORI EDUCATION CULTIVATING YOUR CHILDS NATURAL DESIRE TO LEARN

Discovery Montessori Preschool offers much more for children than simply daycare. We provide a stimulating learning environment, appropriate for curious and growing preschoolers. The Montessori Method of teaching offers children a chance to become enchanted with the love of learning by exploring the carefully prepared environment. Discovery Montessori Preschools program is designed to meet the needs of the young child in accordance with the principles established by Dr. Maria Montessori (1870 1952). She believed that a childs natural ability to learn must be cultivated in a warm and supportive environment, with touchable, entertaining educational materials, thoughtfully crafted to teach concepts. A child must develop the love for learning at an early age or it may never be accomplished. Our center provides a child driven program with the staff guiding and encouraging children at their own pace. We help each child perfect his or her natural tools, or building blocks for future learning. We provide an extensive collection of specialized Montessori learning materials, which are child friendly and inviting, displayed on accessible open shelves. Our children work together in a multi-age classroom where we encourage cooperation and where children learn from each other in a natural community environment. Our goal is to create an environment where self-expression and learning are enjoyable, for both individual development and group learning.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Our small size and home-like facility (maximum 24 students at any one time) encourages community. Our teachers offer warm and loving attention, providing the intimate feel of extended family. We offer a teacher-child ratio that exceeds state standards. Our program and philosophy build continuity between school activities and home life.

PLAY IS CHILDS WORK

At Discovery Montessori Preschool, education is provided through a wide variety of playtime and educational activities. Our curriculum is specially designed to stimulate and entertain children. Childhood is fun! Some of our activities include: Circle and Share time Songs and Poems Story Time and Imagination On-Site Field Trips Special Guests Art and craft projects Water Play and Painting A wide variety of seasonal projects Outside Play and Gardening

STAFF
We employ people who are warm, nurturing, understanding, and educated in child development. They each apply their knowledge in the classroom and respect the child as an individual. We seek employees who value working as a team with the children, parents, colleagues, and volunteers. The school is operated by an Early Childhood credentialed Teacher / Administrator. The support staff has varied levels of ECE units and credentials. The administrator and support staff attend workshops and conferences to update their education and knowledge. Twice a year there are in-service days for the teachers to prepare materials and classrooms.

CULTURAL AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

Regular Spanish and Sign Language classes are an integral part of our program, included at no additional cost. We also explore math, language and many cultures to expand your childs understanding of our diverse world. We also offer optional classes for a fee, in which outstanding specialists teach children in areas of special interest. Additional classes include: Gymnastics

Discovery Montessori was purchased from the private sector by your childcare activists who saw the school's potential. It has become a cherished community owned resource. Discovery Montessori School is a nonprofit corporation, operating solely for public benefit. Its Board of Directors is comprised of parent and community volunteers.
