Internal Assessment: Oral Component 30%

The individual oral consists of three parts:
Part 1: A presentation based on support material (in Spanish) chosen by the candidate. The chosen topic must reflect cultural perspective. 3-4 minutes This might include: A brief description of the chosen material A rationale for the choice of material An analysis of the chosen material Personal view points Prepare a 3-4 minute presentation on a topic of your choice. As a starting point, use material that will enable you to reflect on the culture. This may include printed text, listening material, a picture, a photograph, an object etc. Material containing language should be in Spanish. Be concise and effective!!! You are allowed to use reference notes (approximately ten short points). However, your notes must be used for reference only and must not be read aloud as a prepared speech. Part 2:Follow-up questions and discussion between teacher and candidate. 3-4 minutes During this discussion, you should: Demonstrate understanding of the culture Express opinions Develop and broaden the discussion (elaborate; dont just answer the given question) Part 3:General discussion. This may be based on: Personal interest Issues affecting young people in general Social and global issues ***A draft of your presentation is due no later than ____________________________________. 3-4 minutes

Assessment Criteria
Criterion A: Language
To what extent does the candidate speak the language fluently and accurately? How fluent is the language spoken by the candidate? (Fluency refers to ease of speaking) How correct and idiomatic are the grammar and vocabulary used by the candidate? To what extent does intonation contribute to communication? (Intonation refers to the sounds and rhythms of the language that are essential for effective communication.)

Criterion B: Cultural Interaction


To what extent does the candidate interact appropriately and successfully in the conversation? How sensitive and subtle is the candidates response to nuances ad prompts? How actively and sensitively does the candidate contribute to the conversation? To what extent does the candidate speak spontaneously, or has the candidate rehearsed the conversation? How appropriate is the language to the subject and context? (Language refers to tone and register)

Criterion C: Message
To what extent is the candidate able to communicate ideas (or message) and maintain a coherent conversation? To what extent is the candidate able to convey complex ideas and opinion? How clearly, coherently and vividly are the ideas and opinions presented? How relevant and complete are the candidates responses? How coherent is the conversation?
