FEBRUARY 2012
Theological & Biblical Conference

Mark & Marti Mylin

Every January for five years, the Montauban church has organized a day-long conference for church leaders and members in South West France. Attendance is usually around 50. This year we welcomed Pastor Charles Nicolas and seminary professor Yannick Imbert. They addressed the churchs and the christians relationship to the government and to other religions. Mark and I long to have more people benefit from this day of teaching. We also want to see more of a doctrinal foundation to the conferences, rather than the socio-psychological aspects of faith and Christianity. As in many settings, however, there seems to be an allergic reaction to the word doctrine. Yet how can we mature as believers and as the Church if we hardly know the God we worship and trust? Would you pray with us that God will fill His people here in South West France, and particularly in our Montauban church, with a thirst to know Him more deeply, more biblically? Please pray that we would be able to communicate how a correct understanding of God and His word is not only essential but practical as well. And pray for godly wisdom and character as we teach and interact with Gods people and those outside the church.

Kick-off of a new neighborhood group

In January, we launched a new Bible study group in the eastern suburbs of Montauban, near where we live. That makes four groups meeting at least once a month for fellowship and a closer look at the writings of the Bible. Pastor Rarijason leads one, Mark leads two and I lead the one for women. Our goal would be to equip and enable one or two from each group to lead the meetings and to look out for the welfare of group members. This is a challenge in any situation, but I believe its particularly counter-cultural in the context of our centuries-old church that has traditionally relied on the pastor to lead everything in person. Pray that God would put it on the heart of one or two in each group to care for and help grow group participants. Pray that Mark and I would be effective at passing on vision for and care of the groups.

Upcoming Travels
We were so glad to spend time with our families during a two-week visit around Thanksgiving. The travels havent stopped yet! In March, we will be heading to a town north of Paris (8 hours away) for a week of training with GEM France. After that, Mark will be away a few days for the National Assembly meeting of our French denomination. Then, he will be away for a week in April to attend a pastors conference near Lyon (6 hours east) and to visit a colleague nearby. These absences may be an opportunity for those God is preparing to step up and lead the churchs small groups. Please pray for us to keep our eyes firmly fixed on Christ and on Gods grace in the midst of these travels.

In Christ, Marti Mylin
